Public Nudity: Right or Wrong?

I see all these people fighting to be able to walk down all streets naked in the work place and everywhere else saying it's natural and whatnot well here is my opinion on it...

I think it shouldn't be done for a number of reasons and this is why I think so.

1. Children

If it became common place for everyone to be nude all the time to the store, the schools, the office, children would think nothing of standing in a room with a naked man or woman. They would think it's normal easily. If it gets so far to where kids run around naked there's a lot of pedophiles and this would make child rape that much easer. When we are all clothed, a little kid may come home and say, "Mommy/dad, something odd happened at school today the teacher asked me to stay after class because I had some home work to make up for and he did something odd, he took his clothes off." See that right there would tell you the police need to be contacted but if it became ok to run around naked nothing odd would be seen of a child being alone with a naked teacher.

Since kids are easily manipulated if they are in like first grade they wouldn't know how to say their teacher or student touched them wrong or put something in them. If he made your kid play with a vibrator they wouldn't know what it was they would come home saying my teacher gave me a funny egg that sounded like a maraca to play with after class today and he was naked today. If nudity was normal those words would not connect to "my kid was raped." I mean he wouldn't think that vibrator looked any different from these eggs and dont say "oh well we will just keep it out of the schools" because it will still be seen as normal for a child. A rapist could be anyone and if they are used to seeing people naked they won't think anything of the naked person in the bathroom or at the park.

2. Increases in rape

Yeah I'm going there again, get over it. But not just children, look the clothing we wear no matter how little is a little bit of armor. Maybe your jeans are hard to unbutton, the longer it takes them to get to your privates, the more likely it is you won't get raped by this person because the more likely it is you can get away to call for help. You honestly think some cute little-naked chick walking home wouldn't get raped by someone bigger and stronger than her?

3. The elements

Look the weather changes just like that. One minute it's hot as hell and then its snowing. If you're running around naked you're exposed to the elements. If you're walking around town and it starts snowing you risk hypothermia or if it's really hot, heat stroke. Tell me something, how well are you going to do running around naked when something like this hits and temps drop to zero?

Public Nudity: Right or Wrong?

4. Kangaroo

Um ok so maybe your plan is to run around naked and if the weather gets bad, call a cab. Well unless you are a kangaroo, you don't have anything on you. No cash, no keys, no wallet, and definitely no phone and even if you found a pay phone, how are you going to put money in it? You have no money, you're naked so you have nowhere to put it.

Public Nudity: Right or Wrong?

5. Poorly prepared

What if you're alone and you get bitten by a snake, how are you going to cut off the flow to the rest of your body? Ripping a peace of your clothing, oh wait, you can't because you're naked. You're alone and sprain or dislocate your shoulder or break a leg or have a big bleeding wound, how are you going to make a splint or stop the bleeding? Make a sling for your shoulder, are you going to make it from your shirt or pants? No, because you're naked.

Public Nudity: Right or Wrong?

6. Teens

Look, teens are filled with feelings we're not sure about and some are just plain horny all the time so I don't think seeing their crush naked every day is going to help them study.

Public Nudity: Right or Wrong?

7. Do you really want to see?

Yah sure its fine when you think about a hot guy walking around naked but do you really want to see that 600-pound hairy guy/woman running around in the nude?

Public Nudity: Right or Wrong?

8. Maybe

Yah i get it you love your body, you got nothing to hide but some people don't want to see you naked and I'm one of them. Ok maybe it's awkward for other people, ok maybe I don't want to see your pee pee hanging out.

Public Nudity: Right or Wrong?

I have more but I'm done now.

  • I prefer people to be clothed mainly for sanitary reasons. Especially since we all know (or at least a lot of us know) one person who can shower more often. Yeah there are exceptions to this rule where people can where less in public (like the beach).

Also exposing yourself (even without sexual intent) to a child is against the law where I live. So I don't know how the law will handle this if people were to start walking around.

As for teens since you bring them up who also seem to be wearing less and less these days. Well at least the girls. If an adult man or women (or even a minor now that I think about it) started to google or look up images of nude teenagers (lets say ages 13-17 here) they'd be on a sex offender list (and rightfully so). Taking pictures of nude minors is considered creation of child porn which is also illegal. If teens began walking around nude chances are they'd be in pictures either nude selfies or nude photos with their friends. Plus you just give perverts and pedophiles an alternative to looking up child porn that they can actually get away with. Why risk looking up something that's illegal when you can just walk around to see nude teens legally. (This is also why I support the school dress code but that's another argument).

I don't necessarily agree with the less clothes = high risk of rape. Most men could see a nude woman and leave her alone. Though I will agree that a rapist would pick the easiest target (which I would assume would be wearing more restrictive clothing like hih heels and a really tight leather skirt over being nude. Also picking a girl who's obviously black out drunk). Though yeah if a girl is drunk and naked over drunk and in 4 layers of clothing it's possible that a rapist may go for her because well she's an easier target.

As for not wanting to see a lot of people naked I agree. Of course I could just not look at them but I will see them anyways even if not looking directly at them or if they walk in my line of sight. Plus if only the really "hot" people walked around nude then I can see humans getting bored of eachother sexually. Porn has a negative effect on the male sex drive when it comes to getting laid. I figure a similar effect happens to women. I'm also Pretty sure that this isn't just from watching pornagraphic videos but also from loking at nude pictures of men and women.

    • yah well thair is also seeing people with STDS have you seen a picture of the clap or aids i dont want to be eating out then all of sudden see a dude or chick with puss blisters and red rash on thair privets while im eating. that and i an extremely modest person i dont show a whole lot of skin

    • I agree with you there. I don't mind people showing a bit more skin in the hotter months, like shorts and maybe a crop top. I just want to see people with their private areas covered up, especially if they have visible STD's or other gross looking skin conditions,

    • Yah no kidding I have enough of a hard time eating with mom thanks

  • Really, I just think it stupid. My biggest thing is why? Do you want to be cold or do you want sun damaged skin all over your body? Clothes because a thing for a reason. It just seems illogical

  • Huh, you've brought up points I never thought about before. Though as for the weather, obviously if they want to they can just choose to wear clothes.

  • Well first of all, you're conflating two different ideas.

What some people are fighting for is the right to be naked in public some of the time. Not all of the time. Maybe it's a hot summer day and they want to go for a naked run. Maybe they want to participate in the world naked bike ride without committing a crime. (It's illegal, it's just that cops usually don't bother making arrests.) Maybe they're at the beach and want to change into their swimsuit, but there's no changeroom. You could get arrested and fined for doing those things, if a cop cares enough to charge you. Is that something a judge should bother spending courtroom time on?

What they're not fighting for is a requirement to be naked all the time. Just because something is legal doesn't mean everyone will start doing it. In Canada it became legal for women to walk around topless since 1996. Do you know how many topless women I've seen in Canada? None. Just because they can doesn't mean they will.

But with that said, maybe it would be good for everyone to see more naked people in their lives. North Americans are known to cover up way more than the Europeans do. We cover up so much that we get turned on any time we see a little bit of breast, or a little bit of chest. If we were surrounded by more nakedness, then our minds would adjust and we'd stop getting turned on by a little bit of skin. And that might free women to stop worrying about their bodies getting sexualized every time they show a little skin.

    • Yeah, and it might also make perverts and rapists happy. I'm Canadian and I'm glad most people don't know that law about being topless, because I don't think it would lead to less sexualizatipn, I think it would just make our cities hotbeds of perverts and weirdos

    • and i disagree with you like i said its just me ill stick to keeping my T-shirt and jeans thank you I don't want to see random people naked if i wanted to see people naked id go to a nude beach or something

  • There's also hygienic concerns.
Clothing provides a layer that dirt and bacteria get caught on.

    • like i said i could make this list a lot longer

  • Great points. I guess the argument could be made about women breat feeding in public. Which I have seen happen before. Also lol never go to a nude beach because you will definitely see things you do not want to see.

    • i can't say im all that comfortable with it but it doesn't bother me much baby got to eat to i guess. i think my biggest concern is the child rap though

    • Yeah that is true great point.

    • Thanks

  • I agree. I know there's an argument there that mens are dogs, who'd whistle and howl at a woman if they saw her naked in the streets on her own accord, but for me it's the opposite. I'd be very uncomfortable seeing a human being naked under those circumstances. It's not something I need or want to see, keep it dignified and keep it behind closed doors.

I'm not just anti-free the nipple, I also think men should cover up too lol. I don't want to see shirtless fellas in public. Just my opinion of course.

    • I don't want to see random people naked. But my main concern is the chilled

    • Um yah I ment kids and did you read number one on the list because I said I think it be bad if kids saw it normal because it make it easy for pedophiles to rape them

    • no their would always be a rapist because their would always be thieves murders and what not

  • I love how the OP seems to think we're leading up to worldwide nudity XD

    • You mean we're not? Well, that's disappointing, I was hoping that I wouldn't have to buy any more clothes by next year.

    • @DinaM haha I politely disagree, i have three layers on right now and can't even imagine going butt bare in this weather XD If i lived a bit further north id agree wholeheartedly!

  • Yup, people need clothes.

  • I also don't want to see people going about their daily lives in the nude. There's a time and a place for it.

  • There's also hygiene and diseases to worry about too.

    • like i said i cut the list short because i could go for ever on why i think its bad. for instence poison ivy or oak are clothes protect us from plants and thorns can you imagine getting an itchy rash and thorns all over you it fucking suck. or what if your a factory worker say at a box company you could get a cut on your privets that would hert not to mention your risk of getting ring worm is gratly increased or anything else passed skin to skin

  • well depend on which place we practice it.

despite children could be nude, on some places such nudist/naturist resorts, cause they have very strict rules when it comes to perverts and jerks. My opinion i guess in any moment children should be nude at least until some certain age.

Increase rape, yes it does in some places where men dont know what is respect, and are basic, or better, so primitive. I believe nudity should be practice in proper places and not everywhere, and assuming that people know how to respect the human being next to us, it shouldn't be a problem, but jerks and perverts will exist :/

I guess the matter of the kangoroo, as i said, should be in a proper places, nudist resorts, camps, nude beaches, nude city's (cap dagde) and so on. lol

Elements well, in that time u just do it at home with a good heat system, or do as many that i already see, they move when seasons change.
Seeing obese people and other types of body, dont affect me and they should affect others, we need to be more positive about that, and be ok on their presence. Horny people, it eventually happen, but if they know how to behave, and dont act like perverts and jerks, cool.

Our own body imperfections, well we all have it, and its what makes us all beautiful love yourself and respect others and everything runs smooth :)

  • There are places and times for it, such as nude beaches, naturist resorts and other designated gatherings. But for general public nudity, it's a distraction that can induce I'll disciplined men to be more I'll disciplined. The other issues are mitigated by limiting it to designated places and times, and participants will accept seeing your plumbing.

  • I still don't think that nudity is as bad as the feminists that let their period bleed everywhere and wipe it on shit as some kind of "statement":

Medically, bodily fluids are considered biohazard material, it's unhygienic, potentially infectious and disgusting.

    • Ewwwww WTF is that

    • I apologize, I was thinking about nudity in context of the modern feminist movement and that's what popped into my head.

    • Well Tmi and people wonder why I'm goin to live in a self reliant homestead because the world is getting plain gross

  • We have a sick attitude towards the human body. I think more public nudity would be healthy.

  • OK. I feel you. But one thing. Being naked would be optional. So not all people would be naked. I wouldn’t. I, personally, am concerned more about protection from elements and outside world, and having convenient place where to put my phone.

    • It would be optional like any dress code, which is to say not optional for those that want to fit in. Plus, the more people are naked, the more people will be naked as it becomes more normal, until it's almost expected.

    • @Vyxzuw Naaah, I don't get that feeling form this article. It seemd almost like if it would be mandatory, but…no. As dress code…I think in some places…sure. But…if you come there dressed, then nobody will throw you away. I don't think it would work like that. :-)

    • agine if it became normal for children to see random people naked it they would think nothing of going into a secluded area with one most of my concern lies in how much easier child rape would become

    • Show All
  • I probably wouldn't go publicly naked but as a person who has a kink for nudity I definitely say let it all hang out for the people like me who wants to see naked men and women.

  • I'm not going to walk around public naked nor do I want to see anyone else walking around public naked.

  • Neither! Nothing is 'good' or 'bad' nothing is 'evil'! Money has no real value apart from that in our mind just like law has no power apart from the power people allow it to have over them? Its hypothetical. And there is no such thing as 'objective' perspective! So no its not wrong and its not right either it just is.

    • It's not a question it's my opinion in it and why I think it wrong. and money has value if u need to get home and I'm pretty sure law has power because if I brake it I can be put death in old days if you broke the law u lost a hand

  • None of this is based in fact or reality. You need to do some actual research because rape goes down as sexual acceptance goes up.

    • changes nothing thair will always be one twisted fucker

    • That response doesn't make any sense. Maybe you didn't understand: rape goes down when people go nude. Simple right?

  • Let me address each point by point.
    1. There is no evidence that prevalence of nudity increases pedophilia. You shouldn't trust your kids alone with strangers anyway, so if you are doing this, then it wouldn't be an issue. "if they are in like first grade they wouldn't know how to say their teacher or student touched them wrong or put something in them" They certainly would if you teach them properly as you should be ding as it is now.
    2. There is also no evidence that nudity causes an increase in rape. It is hard to get an accurate measurement of rape because for instance in Muslim countries, rape his highly under reported as it isn't often seen as a problem.
    3. This is kind of a legitimate point but a bit irrelevant to the legality of it. You wear more when you feel cold, do you need a law to tell you when to wear a jacket now?
    4. Funny. But there are solution. A fanny pack is a good one, or hold in your hand, or a bag.
    5. How many people are prepared for a snake bite as it is? You could have a bag (see previous question) with emergency equipment if you go hiking. Also, good advise would be don't go hiking alone where there are snakes (I have done it myself but accept the risks).
    6. You would think , but teens exposed to nudity from a young age are less excited by it, because they are used to it.
    7. Some people are not so shallow as to get grossed out by what someone looks like.
    8. I guess sort of related to 7.
