I suppose there may be more people who've heard about it than had twenty or thirty years ago, but I think mostly what's changed is the social acceptance of men talking about being more sexually submissive, and women talking about it at all.
Remember that what you like doing in the bedroom doesn't necessarily reflect your preferences on how to live the rest of your life.

It's true. But even though some women like to dominate men, in the end, we usually still want to be dominated by an even more dominant man.

That's why I said usually. But most girls I've spoken to about this that have a dominant sexual role also enjoy being put in their place by another man that's more dominant than either her or her boyfriend that she dominates

I think the only thing that is changing is what stories you hear. Men didn’t talk about being submissive because it was shunned upon. Now it’s more acceptable.
Kinky people have always been around, including submissive men and dominant women. Kink itself was not very discussed openly years ago. The internet changed everything.
