Should prostitution be decriminalized?
After a different question where people mislabeled someone to be a whore, I was wondering what everyone’s take is on whores/prostitutes anyway. A whore, by definition, is a prostitute, so let's refer to it accordingly.

On to the question... people who sell sex.

Are prostitutes despicable? If they are, to what extent? Is a prostitute under bad circumstances as despicable as a prostitute under good circumstances?

If you believe prostitutes aren’t despicable, why? Do you simply feel as though they are just enjoying themselves and getting money at the same time? Explain your reasoning.

Lastly, do you even care? Under a friends-with-benefits question, I realized that a lot of people don’t care if someone they know is in a friends-with-benefits relationship, so how about if they are a prostitute? Is your judgment still withheld? Does someone else’s bodily decisions impact how you would treat them? (Not to spark an abortion debate, please, let’s not go there).

Finally, if you believe prostitution is despicable, would you be against it being decriminalized. If not, why?

What’s your take?

(Personally, I don’t really care so don't come for my ankles for making this question. I would, however, hope that prostitution wouldn’t have to be my last resort to money though.)

  • I think it will never be decriminalize because a lot drugs get involved however there are legal whore houses in Vegas and if drugs get involved the girl gets fired and the guy and girl get some jail time if they use.

  • You don’t care, yet you care enough to ask and write a long one? Suuuure.

  • I believe it should

    • Thanks for your honesty!

    • You're welcome

  • I'm torn. Honestly, I think it should be legal and state regulated but there's also human trafficking.

    • Wouldn't human trafficking decrease though with a legal alternative?

    • Possibly. I don't know the statistics

Friends with benefits was invented by a guy that did not want to pay.

  • It's one of the oldest professions of the world. Why it was criminalized to begin with I still don't understand.

  • Here in the US, the only place where it is legal is certain rural counties in the State of Nevada. The women undergo weekly health checks and they have to work out of licensed brothels. I am surprised that it is not legal in more parts of the US. I think they keep it illegal because they think it would be "shameful" to allow it.

  • Well since I'd never go for a prostitute for anything I dont really care. If they legalize their services it does nothing for me. I don't want to see street hookers hanging out around high schools and college campuses for more than a few reasons. When I saw around I mean in a radius a student is going to drive during school hours to have sex. Keep them in areas and facilities away from civilized society on the outskirts of towns or in inner cities. Also make them have to get regular blood work and testing done and tax them for it. As far as being a "whore" goes it's going to depend on the man you ask. Some will say any non virgin is a whore or a woman with a child out of wedlock is a whore.

To me Prostitute would be a woman who exchanges their services for anything, including favors unless it's with her spouse and she wants him to do something like say mowing lawn, cooking the dinner, etc. I don't mind that too much although a guy should be doing that without needing to be bribed anyways and a healthy marriage should be fulfilling for both partners. NOW as far as what I consider an actual "whore" it's going to be a woman who's had more than 6 sex partners by the time she's married. It's easy to dismiss my opinions on the matter but once you actually consider it from someone who's planning to have children or has children you have more reason to stand back and really analyze things. I want a safer and healthier society so above all, safety is key.

  • Of course it should be legalized. Then I can have a group of women that work for me and I can send out on the street and intimidate all of the other women who don’t have pimps or force them to work for me. It’s a win-win.
