Should Prostitution be legalized?

Should Prostitution be legalized?

The question of whether or not prostitution should be legalized is a complex and controversial one, and there are valid arguments on both sides. Here are a few things to consider:

Pros of legalization:

Legalization could potentially reduce the harm and risk associated with prostitution, especially for sex workers. Legalization would allow for the regulation of the industry, which could lead to improved working conditions, safer practices, and access to healthcare and other resources for sex workers.

Legalization could also lead to the reduction of sex trafficking and exploitation, as the illegal nature of prostitution often makes it easier for traffickers to operate and for sex workers to be subjected to abuse and coercion.

In places where prostitution has been legalized, the rate of reported rape has significantly decreased.

Legalization could provide a new source of tax revenue for governments.

Cons of legalization:

Some argue that prostitution is inherently exploitative and degrading, and that it is not a legitimate form of work. They argue that it should not be legalized because it would legitimize and encourage this exploitation.

Others argue that legalization could lead to an increase in demand for prostitution, which could potentially lead to an increase in the number of people, particularly women and children, who are forced into prostitution.

There are also concerns that legalization could lead to the commodification of sex and the objectification of women.

Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to legalize prostitution is a complex one that will depend on the specific circumstances and values of a given society.

  • It is legal here, and it has absolutely no affect on my life.

I think it's a good thing that it's legal, and also that there are laws protecting the prostitutes. (They probably don't work any better than most other laws against exploitation, but nobody would suggest banning cleaning services.)

  • Yes it should be legal. It's the feminist the keep prostitution illegal.

  • yes, but controlled so as not to" ruin" society. and to protect the people.

  • I say it should be for the exact pros you listed above.

  • It should be. Prostitution is not going away, and the women that work there should be protected from being injured and/or cheated.

    • Then too, they should be paying income tax on the 400-600 dollars per hour they are charging.

  • Prostitution is legal (and well-managed) in many countries, without the Cons in this article. I'm in favor of legalizing prostitution. Comedian George Carlin (may he rest-in-peace) once said...

"Sex between consenting adults is legal, and selling things is legal, so why isn't prostitution legal?"

  • I guess. I don't think sex for money should be illegal but the way some of these pimps are treating prostitutes is just shitty

    • There ARE no more pimps. These women are now all self-employed.

    • If they're self-employed, then alright

  • Sex work should be de-criminalized (no victim), licensed, regulated and taxed like any other similar business. Further, government should be watchful for sex trafficking and practitioners should be drug tested and STD tested once a month at their expense.

It is possible to be both Christian and Libertarian. So long as someone does not usurp on another's rights, they should be left alone.

  • Of course prostitution should be legalized, for the plain reason that this activity will anyway continue to thrive. In order for authorities to keep some control, meanwhile collecting some taxes, and granting a minimum protection to the involved sex workers, I don't see another way to handle prostitution.

    • How about a lot of protection and for once NO taxes?

    • It doesn't cost anything to dream a bit ;0)

  • It already is, unless you trade for it with money. An expensive dinner and drinks is fine. lol

  • lets not call it prostitution anymore. the escorting world instead. and yes its should be legal. How can we get the politicians to hear us?

  • Yes, it should be legal. There needs to be laws to protect both the seller and the buyer and also protect kids.

  • I think it probably should, yeah. Legalized and regulated.

  • It is, ever heard of onlyfans

  • I thought it already was!

  • Morally I hate the idea, but it does seem crazy to me that sex for money is illegal in most places in the USA, but getting paid to have sex on camera for money is not.

  • If it's between consenting adults that it should be no one else's business

  • It should be legalized as it’s in Europe

  • Well if there's no woman in your life, and you won't be any woman's type... well.

  • it is in most countries and regulated. And health checks

  • Yes it should.

    men want sex.

take that away from the dating market and women will actually have to be interesting and provide more than their looks to attain a mate

  • Renting a woman is so much better than marrying a woman. Never get married.
