I've changed a lot since then and to this day, I'm still wondering why I did that. Granted, all I did was pay what they requested and have sex then some small talk. Solicitation was a class B misdemeanor at the time but it's since been upgraded to a state jail felony in late 2021.
However, I was never arrested or charged on any of those offenses and the statute of limitations for each of those offenses is 2 years for a prosecutor to return an indictment otherwise the offender can't be charged.
Laws are not applied retroactively as explained to me by a lawyer but even if they were, the 3 year statute of limitations for state jail felonies is 3 years, which has also expired.
I see why what I did was very wrong and apathetic of me to dismiss the possible trauma I may have caused. I wish I never did those things but I can only move forward with a better understanding.
The question does cross my mind a good bit as to whether what I did should even be illegal. I may be biased, but I don't believe that soliciting an escort who's an adult should be illegal.
Frowned upon, absolutely but not illegal. They're not too far gone, they may just need to be told that what they're doing is apathetic and immoral.
I've seen a story lately of a Sheriff from FL who's famous for publicly shaming people who are arrested, he shamed a law enforcement officer who was well respected but he was caught trying to pay an undercover officer for sex.
While I of course see why what he did is very wrong, I don't believe this should be the end of his career as with proper support, he can still do great things. I think it should be legal.
