Should prostitution be legalized?

I had sex with 4 different escorts for a total of 5 appointments over the course of a year between late 2018 and late 2019.

I've changed a lot since then and to this day, I'm still wondering why I did that. Granted, all I did was pay what they requested and have sex then some small talk. Solicitation was a class B misdemeanor at the time but it's since been upgraded to a state jail felony in late 2021.

However, I was never arrested or charged on any of those offenses and the statute of limitations for each of those offenses is 2 years for a prosecutor to return an indictment otherwise the offender can't be charged.

Laws are not applied retroactively as explained to me by a lawyer but even if they were, the 3 year statute of limitations for state jail felonies is 3 years, which has also expired.

I see why what I did was very wrong and apathetic of me to dismiss the possible trauma I may have caused. I wish I never did those things but I can only move forward with a better understanding.

The question does cross my mind a good bit as to whether what I did should even be illegal. I may be biased, but I don't believe that soliciting an escort who's an adult should be illegal.

Frowned upon, absolutely but not illegal. They're not too far gone, they may just need to be told that what they're doing is apathetic and immoral.

I've seen a story lately of a Sheriff from FL who's famous for publicly shaming people who are arrested, he shamed a law enforcement officer who was well respected but he was caught trying to pay an undercover officer for sex.

While I of course see why what he did is very wrong, I don't believe this should be the end of his career as with proper support, he can still do great things. I think it should be legal.

  • I’m a Christian man and I think society is better off focusing on traditional values.

That being said, where did you get the prostitution services?

Because you do realize in a lot of Asian and Latin countries, women are trafficked and sometimes even underage

    • Traditional Christian values? Like owning slaves and genocide?

    • @Subarugirl considering it was Christians who were the last to adopt slavery and the first to end it, I think you’re missing the point

    • They certianly weren’t the first to end it. The Bible was used to justify it

  • No. It is wrong to devalue oneself to that extreme whether it is the girl or the guy. Sanctity of the body, mind, and soul are important to keep cleaned. Nothing good can come from dehumanizing and objectifying the body for pleasures associated with sex.

    • Must suck being the person who disliked your comment. What a miserable life they must be living.

    • @WhiteBoyChill Thank you. I’ve stopped worrying about the phantom dislikes. I think it’s some internal action because 95% of the time the person posting likes my comments. I really don’t know what it means besides they are too cowardly to post 🤷🏻‍♂️ Thanks for the positive feedback.

    • Its as if whoever disliked your comment sees no value in themselves.

  • It should absolutely be legalized but an important distinction is it should be "regulated" and legalized. For better or worse by nature people WILL do what they want to do and every prohibition in history will provide ample evidence for this claim.

  • "I'm still wondering why I did that", why?

    • Cause what I did isn't something I'd ever think that I would do

  • Sex work is legalised, dimwit, but only in a lesser extent.

  • It should be legalized and the prostitutes shouldn't be judged anymore than the people who pay them.

Doesn't affect anyone else then the two people transacting.

  • I think sex work should be de-criminalized, licensed, regulated and taxed. Careful watch for sex trafficking.

  • It ought to be the same as any other financial transaction between two consenting adults... none of anyone else's business.

  • It should be decriminalized.

  • An officer of the law broke the law he took an oath to uphold... he should prosecuted to the full extent of the law

  • Prostitution by adults should be legal. Pimping should carry the death penalty. Pimping a minor should be punished with Medieval torture.

  • No way

  • I think you should be shamed as well! Good thing you're anonymous.

I would have let you off the hook for your honest confession. But the fact that you're promoting the practice proves that you haven't really changed.

    • I'm not promoting it, I'm simply saying that I don't think solicitation of an adult should be a state jail felony

  • Legalize and regulate.

  • It is, just get a camera

  • It should be legalized

  • It's legal in my and MANY countries worldwide.

  • because of diseases. I bet you cried when people didn't wear masks during Covid.

  • If you want it to be taxed, sure

  • you didn't harm them, you employed them in their chosen profession. Assuming you paid them well and you were kind, I am sure they were grateful.

  • Women never get tired of selling their body.

  • Most countries, have legal prostitutes
