Should rapists undergo castration?

Should rapists undergo castration?

Would this be a reasonable deterrent to sexual assault or is it Middle Ages stuff?

  • As much as I would love to see sexual assaulters lose their nads, I think it's a step backwards in being civilized. Simply making deterrents more extreme doesn't do as much as one might hope to reduce crime.

Plus the issue with sexual assault justice isn't the strength of the deterrent on the books, It's the likelihood of it being applied. A lot of people partake in this shit because it's often either unprovable, or doesn't go very far in the legal process. I've always heard about r*pe kits just sitting in a pile going unchecked and uninvestigated. If anything, stuff like that is what we need to focus on.

This is one of those things where prevention works best when analyzing the source. And we need better analysis. Right now we just kinda broadly bludgeon guys with "consent, consent, consent". But it isn't necessarily that guys as a whole don't understand consent. It's often that the assaulters don't give a damn even if they know. We need to be making sure we're tackling the causes of THAT at LEAST as much.

And then when we over-bludgeon, the rest of us guys are raised on this idea that our sexuality is shameful, evil, oppressive. That creates pathologies of its own, speaking as someone going to therapy for this exact thing.

And then there's the male-emphasis on the whole thing. Like a lot of women who sexually assault men have been found to believe that "consent isn't something that applies to men". That we're "always wanting it" and "we're lucky to get it". That's pathological af. Teach girls about consent, too, and bring up the stats about male victims, because while it isn't 50-50, it's probably closer than most might expect. But yeah, ramping up from criminal charges to sterilization won't stop someone from committing something they think they can't even commit.

So I think the idea of sterilizing the few assaulter we do catch would be like knowing you have 50 mice in your house, the exterminator catches one, kills it 50 times, and says "your house is now free of mice", expecting the problem to go away.

  • the only statistically proven deterrent for any crime is expectation of getting caught. i wouldn't have a problem with it in cases of violent or aggravated rape if there was truly no question of their guilt, however as I have gotten older I have come to have less and less faith in the criminal justice system. there is a significant percentage of inmates who are not guilty of the crimes they are convicted and sentenced for. A friend of mine did 4 years as a juvenile after a judge threw out the deal negotiated in exchange for his confession.

  • No... it should have been done before so she doesn't get pregnant lol

It's like wanting to put the cherry on a cake- already eaten, so instead, a single cherry gets placed on a crumbly plate...

As far as castration being a means of immasculation/shaming/ lowering sexual drive

    I guess it works..

I don't know... I just don't think revenge is good.

    it's like this:

Taking a (another) piece out of a person doesn't make them more of a human..

but taking the weapon out of their hand does...

criminals do have real issues that need to be addressed, just as much as the people who commit "crimes" against their bodies, when they have eating disorders.

People need healing and guidance/ or at least visual guidelines to what's true, as well as a time and place to properly heal.

Then, they can be effective in communities, and not defective as a human being.

    Castration must go.

    Rape Must go.

  • No, as apparently they will still be able to rape, just maybe not as aggressively. There would be little point in castration, as they can still get erections for short periods of time.

  • Iron age, actually- you can't appeal a mutilation.

  • Just take two house bricks and slam together fast

    • Would hurt for sure.

    • This is the best answer. Pop it like a zit. Lol

    • I heard the girly screams from here.

  • and what about the false accusations of rape...

  • Only if it's been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt and it was ACTUAL rape (violent, forced, and absolutely not consensual) and not any of that feminist horsesh*t about drunken sex or "regret sex," cause that sh*t is NOT "rape."

  • No, it is not ‘reasonable’, nor is it a ‘deterrent’. Studies have shown that rates of recidivism (about 5%) in surgically castrated offenders is about the same as it for all sex offenders. It is also widely known in criminal justice and psychiatry circles that sex offenses are more associated with a personality disorder than with anything hormonal.

    • Interesting.

  • In vicious cases with indisputable proof. Yes.

  • I say do it chemically. I think a lot of these people just have mental problems. If the person was violent, send them to prison and we don't need to add extra time to anyone who harrasses those assholes.

  • No. Mutilation makes us as bad as them.

  • No. Body autonomy, remember?

  • No, but only because of the enormous number of false rape allegations that women make for attention, revenge, or just shits and giggles.

  • No.

    1. False accusations occur often, and often don't get overturned until years later, so innocent men would end up castrated often.

    2. Mutilation is morally worse than rape, so the punishment doesn't fit the crime.

    3. Being castrated doesn't prevent rape, because it doesn't prevent arousal or erections, I've seen fixed dogs hump legs like they just downed viagra, a castrated rapist would just rape more if he wasn't having to worry about pregnancy anymore.

  • Mixed feelings. Far too many false accusations...

  • Yeah, they should

  • Maybe

  • No:
    for several reasons
There have been several false convictions so what if we get it wrong.
to permitly disfigure a person is a human rights violation.
other countries would use this to validate there own fucked up punishments.

  • Yes. Definitely

  • No. Rape should carry the death penalty.

    • It used to back in the day

  • Considering all the false rape accusations and the corruption in the criminal justice system fuck that. But yeah if someone rapes my family I’ll give them a gift they’ll never forget

  • No, death suits them better.
