Should women be free to legally sell sex?

Prostitution laws are antiquated products of a repressive Victorian morality that was rooted in Puritanistic Calvinism and fear of female empowerment. A woman's' body belongs to her to do with what she wishes. If she chooses to sell sex that is of no business of the government. Further, if regulated it would benefit society: allow women to earn a living instead of becoming burdens on society, act as a safety valve for male aggressiveness from which most crime is rooted, allow people such as the disabled to enjoy a major life activity otherwise probably precluded to them by lack of partner, etc. Safeguards can assure worker safety. Most western democracies and, in fact, in most of the world, Prostitution is legal and not a problem. In the United States the worst forms are practiced, with attendant consequences, primarily because of its illegality.

  • No - if men work for cash woman should also work for cash

    • most customers are not going to be very attractive so I imagine the girls would consider it to be work. Hell, listen to a bunch of old wives talking about servicing their men-they talk about it like its work.

  • I don’t personally think it’s a respectable profession. However, I also don’t believe women who choose to make money that way should be punished. Is it really any worse than selling yourself in the porn industry? Who are they hurting other than maybe themselves? Just like the war on drugs, laws have failed to stop prostitution. Just legalize it and let people do what they’re already going to do. You can’t legislate morality.

  • I believe woman should be allowed to sell sex but it is the business of the government. Without proper government regulation and inspection you can't protect women working in brothels.

    • That's the purpose of legalizing it-to regulate it, establish safe conditions, assure no trafficking, etc.

  • George Carlin, once asked, "Why is it Illegal, to sell something that you can give away for FREE?"
If it is regulated, like in Nevada, and safe, and those that want that, use safe-sex practices, why not?

  • I see no problem with it, it should be legalized

  • I don't think so. It would make society worse

    • How?

  • I don’t think the government should ban it. If everyone having sex agree to it an there’s a bit of cash going around, what’s the harm?

  • if they work in a whore house maybe?

    • Whatever regulatory structure is settled on

  • their body, their decision. make sure people do not get forced into prostitution but if someone decides to do that out of their own will then that should be okay

  • If they want to get into that profession, why not?

  • No they shouldn't.

  • Yup in America it will have male and women relationships drastically. Like online dating did.
The marriage rate would be at an all-time low. More women would be Whores or Camwhores. Women typically have not moral when it's come to their bodies and money and them. justify anything.

Strip clubs will go out of business,

  • No cause then average joe would be tempted and not work extra hard at his job to provide for his family.

    • But its legal most other places in the world and that doesn't occur-are American men just more irresponsible than the rest of the world?

    • I think cause the Bible thinks it's wrong? They do in Las Vegas I think. Because the military is right there. It encourages bad kind of lifestyle and are at least making it harder to. To encourage people to live the good family type lifestyle be my guess. Those would be like the most important citizens if you ask me.
