What are some signs? Things they might say or do? Considering it's a girl they know or are friends with ( so not just a random stranger).

Unless you give a guy an erection, you probably can't tell. We have been taught that becoming overtly sexual too quick with a lady will send her running in the opposite direction, so we don't want to do something stupid and ruin our chances.

Why don't girls sit and spread their legs when they see a guy who gives them the hots? Same reason.

If you want to know whether a guy is interested, stand next to him when talking and put your hand on the small of his back. Drop your hand slowly and let your fingers just barely slide between his pants and his shirt - like just fingertips. He will look at you and you can give him a look that says "I want you." If he's interested and his heart hasn't stopped, he'll respond.
