I firmly believe that nothing justifies rape, absolutely nothing. But, sometimes I feel as if I am alone in this. In my time on this sight I have come across a few men who have tried to justify sexual assault to me, and I was apalled. I have even come across some men in my real life who have tried to do the same.
Sexual assault happens to both men and women and it needs to stop being justified. No matter what the person has done in the past, no matter what they are wearing or doing, or if they originally said and yes and then changed their minds.

If a woman is breastfeeding, this is not an invitation to look at or touch her breast. If a girl or guy is dancing seductively, this not an invitation to grope them.
The other day I had a man, one of my professors in College ,tell me that if ia woman does not want to get raped then she shouldn't dress in a way that invites a rapist. Do you know what this means? It means that he thinks that if a girl wears a lowcut shirt or a miniskirt then she is asking to be raped and that is wrong because it is a justification of rape. Everyone should have the freedom to wear what they want.
Wearing sexy clothes does not cause rape, rapist cause rape.
So many people treat those who come forward with a rape claim as if they are dirty and liers is this is not good for the victims. It makes them feel as if you don't care and in most cases the rapist walks free.
My cousin was sexually assaulted by her father and they did nothing because in the end the jury came up with ways to justify it. It wasn't until she was seventeen that he signed over his parental rights.
I am saddened by modern society. The justification of rape is so common that it makes my heart hurt. I only hope that one day the justification of rape is haulted and this horrible crime is taken seriously along with other forms of sexuall assault on both men and women...because it can happen to men too and people need to quit acting like men are immune to sexual assault.

A Rape Culture would mean that society (specifically the US) encourages rape and normalises it... You know what happens when a man rapes a woman and is caught, he is sent to jail to spend years and often decades there.

Most convicted rapists do NOT spend "decades" in jail... the rare few who actually get convicted typically spend 2-5 years in jail and many of them only a few months plus probation.
@Sara413 And they're on a sex offender registry for the rest of their lives which limits the jobs they can get, more than likely gets them fired from any current job they have, and has many other negative reprocussions

Rape is taken seriously, and rapists are punished. If anything is undermining rape being taken seriously its women and false rape claims. Regret is not rape, and some women would rather call rape and be a victim than a slut. Getting wasted and hooking up with multiple men and regretting it doesn't mean they're rapists. Look at all these high profile rape cases the women ended up being proven liars and ruined men's lives? Where are all the feminists speaking up againt that, wheres the twitter hashtags? Why aren't feminists fighthing for these women to be punished and jailed because all of them got no jail or anything for being outed as liars. That is belittling rape and making is less serious! It's false rape accusations that make more people question women harder when a rape claim comes up.

When you dress proactively it says you want sex. You are essentially telling men you want sex through your body language. Women are so confusing. The main reason that some rape victims are not believed is that it is becoming a widespread fact that people lie about having been raped. Which is horrible. Rape is taken extremely serious and most people; men and women, want to increase the punishments and actions against it. Within reasonable extents.
In the case of your cousin any jury would have taken this incredibly seriously. Underage girl with allegations that she is being sexually assaulted by her caretaker? It's the stuff to make juries weep. So there must have been no evidence to support the case and her credibility must have been put to question. Especially if she didn't get to transfer her living accommodations after. If she actually was assaulted that is horrible. That is again, if.
