The Morality of Homosexuality and Abortion

My opinion on the morality of homosexuality and abortion is based on utilitarianism. Regardless of the intrinsic goodness or evilness of both kinds of sexual behavior, homosexuality and abortion are both beneficial behaviors in today's world.

We have so many people on Earth today. Modern technologies in agriculture, medicine, and science have led to this population explosion. With so many people on the planet, quality should become more important than quantity. Instead of reproducing more and more offspring, it may be more beneficial to condone homosexual behavior and disapprove of heterosexual behavior, as well as figure out how to make everyone gay at the biochemical level. If we can increase the gay population to 100%, then no one will want to have sex with the opposite sex anymore, and everyone will die out eventually. This is a good thing. We are smart enough to realize that we are a very destructive species to the planet. If we disappear, then we allow other creatures to flourish.

Same goes for abortion. Abortion is essentially a form of population control. By legalizing abortion for ANY reason, we allow adult women and men to continue living happy lives while not worrying about the economic consequences of adding another child into the household, which can potentially decrease the quality of life for the family members. Also, if one doesn't want to care for the child (because of rape/incest/birth defect) or if one can't hold a viable pregnancy (because of physical immaturity), then one can always abort the child and be done with it. If the unwanted child is born, it may face a cruel life, as no one wants to care for it. It may be best to end its life in the womb. On the positive side, abortion is a good way to curb population growth.

Because of the medical risks of an abortion, it may be best to prevent conception. The best contraceptive is lifelong sexual abstinence. It prevents births and spread of diseases; and it has no serious side effects. It is the ideal contraceptive. However, in case that is not possible, the second-best contraceptive is sterility. It prevents new people from being conceived, but it may not prevent the spread of disease. Though, if a deadly disease spreads through the sexual route, then that may be good anyway, because the deadly disease can decrease the human population. After sexual abstinence and sterility, there are the various and abundant birth control methods and devices that people use to protect themselves against infectious diseases and unwanted pregnancies, all with varying success. By encouraging sexual abstinence, sterility, and persistent use of contraceptives while discouraging conception and treating every pregnancy as an inconvenience to humanity, we may diminish the human population to zero. This is a good thing. Earth will appreciate a human-less world, as other species will be allowed to flourish.

  • You are being absurd; the population growth rate is not going to zero any time soon. Overpopulation is a real danger, and sarcastic posts like this don't change that.

  • abortion must be denied
