The only thing that makes you seem gay is banging the same sex!

I don't know how much of a myTake this is but rather me ranting but I am getting sick of the questions on here asking if someone makes someone seem gay.

People ask if a particular piece of clothing makes them gay, if a certain tattoo makes them seem gay, if never having had a relationship makes them seem gay, and just recently if liking chocolate makes them seem gay. This makes no sense! Gay means happy or homosexual. We all know you don't mean happy and the only thing that defines a homosexual is someone sexually attracted to the same sex and nothing other than being with someone of the same sex makes you seem like you like people of the same sex.

Also the whole idea of calling something gay is so ridiculous. An object is not gay, someone's nonsexual feelings cannot be gay, someone cannot be called gay unless they are gay. Just say what you mean, lame stupid, feminine, what be it.

Lastly, stop with the gay best friend thing. It's just belittling. A best friend that is gay is just the same as having a best friend that is straight except they want to bang the same sex... being gay doesn't put your friendship on a higher pedestal.

The only thing that makes you seem gay is banging the same sex.

  • Amen! People used to always think I'm gay because of my mannerisms. I'm a very animated person especially when I'm happy or excited about something. I never felt the need to conform to gender roles so I'm just happy being me.

I even have friends who sat me down and gave me the talk.. "Hey man it's cool if you're gay we just want to know that we accept and love you" lmao but nah not gay just not traditionally masculine lol

People LOVE to make assumptions lol

  • You are completely right, that's the only thing that makes people seem gay... not certain music or food, or anything else.

  • Well, yeah of course "acting" is not the same as "being gay" as you have stated.
However, you must take into account certain people have mannerisms that portray opposite of the sex that they are.
This is why these men are called "feminine" gays and women who act manly "butch".

    • Example of a feminine gay.

  • Yesss, this is awesome!

    • Thanks!

  • But gays often TEND to do similar things. So...

    • That's generalizing and that's wrong. Not all homosexual people are flamboyant which is the type of behaviour you're referring to.

    • I didn't say "THEY ALL DO THE SAME THINGS AND THEY'RE ALL THE FUCKING SAME." Can you fuckin' read? • Calm your tits man. But they don't tend to do the same things... What you're referring to is the homosexuals the media shows. That's no where close to the majority.

  • While I agree with you, but the things you listed has to with gender. and as long as people are still referred to as a gender and therefore have to conform to those norms it will never change. A guy wearing eyeliner , BB cream doesn't make him gay. But since make up is correlated to the female gender men feel funny about it. A guy asked is him enjoying a finger up his buy gay, I said no as long as this person doesn't have y chromosome. But I mean if he wants you to put on a strap on, questioned need to be asked

  • The last time I came across something like this was on a question of whether it's gay for dicks to touch during a double penetration.

And in my opinion it is.

    • But they're smashing a girl?

    • And their penises are touching.

    • Guys that participate in dp are usually bisexual.

  • I agree, really good points. Most of the people that say stuff like that do it through ignorance or they are unsure of their sexuality themselves.

  • Yeah I agree, questions like that are so annoying. It's interesting that this fear of being perceived as gay is a cultural thing that usually occurs in Western countries.

  • Stop being gay about the whole thing! We know but don't care it just sounds funny. This whole topic is Gay.

  • Different example:

    "You act like a jerk."

    "You are a jerk."

You see the difference? It is that a person cannot be a jerk, but still occasionally act like one. Or that person is an actual jerk. Same with acting (or the word you used is seeming) gay and being gay.

  • Even "banging the same sex" doesn't prove someone is gay: not all prisoners are gay (not all get banged, I suppose.)
And there's that caustic quote attributed to Winston Churchill (1874-1965) in which he supposedly called British naval tradition nothing but “rum, sodomy, and the lash.”

I don't think all sailors were gay.
Sometimes people will turn to their own sex, by lack of alternative.

    • To be fair, I don't think she's referencing those people :) I definitely see your point though

  • See, thing is, a lot of styles, behaviors, and such can make you seem gay or lesbian.

Because there are styles, behaviors, and such that are really common among the gay/lesbian community.

So if you follow one of those, people will recognize it and think you might be gay or lesbian.

    • You're referring to what the media portrays as characteristics of homosexual people. Not real homosexual people.

    • Actually, I'm referring to the gays I would see around college campus, or in classes, kid.

    • So an extremely small sample of the whole world

  • Nope licking the same sexes' genitilia also makes you gay.

  • on occasion i still refer to objects or disappointing events as gay. i have a fwe gay acquaintances, none of em care. meanwhile, i'll listen to em go on talkin' about all the shit they do w/ guys. one of em has a thing for young Asian boys, and constantly jokes about the shit that goes down w/ his craigslist casual encounters.

    big deal.

    • the same issue which is more prevalent exists w/ the word "nigga". generating a discussion on something so trivial is one of the things which irks me about a handful of gays. usually they're younger.

  • What makes you seem gay and actually being gay is not the same, you don't seem to recognise that difference.

Many things can make you seem gay, obviously that dosen't make you gay.

  • I fricking hate labels so why bother with them. I don't really care about sexuality.

    • That's great for you. No one said you have too. It's just some people happen to like them

    • Me labels divide us. Sexuality is a swirl mix to me. Who cares? Make love not war is my motto

  • someone just had a rantgasm

    • Ya I did and it felt fantastic

  • People can be called gay for other things other than being homosexual... Gay originally meant happy, it was the purpose of the word. But it evolved to mean homosexual when ignorant people started referring to flamboyant men as a little to "happy". That word has now evolved again to mean things that are lame or stupid. Yes it was a derivative of slanderous bigotry towards homosexuals but has now evolved past that. Therefore someone saying "that test was so gay" or "oh my god this movie is fuckin gay, let's leave." It has nothing more to do with homosexuals as it does happy people. Those who are hypersensitive and like to get bent out of shape over everything will find ways to take offence but these people will find anything they can latch onto.
Someone claiming that gay can't now be used to mean something different than homosexual is like a thief getting angry because the bike they stole from someone else got stolen by another person. Gay wasn't your bike and words evolve. Get over it.

  • they do? wow men can have some silly fears... .

  • Yup, I agree with you. Once at the gym I was trimming my chest and an acquaintance of mine said "that $hit is gay" and I reminded him he was "banging" a male. He said that he was the top so he wasn't gay, even though his... friend with benefits? was. Shake my head.

    • He bangs a dude and doesn't think it's gay because he's a top? That shit is weird dude, that's super gay. If that's not gay, I don't know what gay is...

  • A gay best friend, acts like the opposite sex. I'm straight, and act like a man, not a woman. You're born gay, just like you're born straight

    • How does that make sense? There is no such thing as "acting like a man" or "acting like a woman". What you act like is society's set standards for men and women. Anyone who doesn't wish to fit into these standards is called "gay".

    • Because you can't "become gay", you're born that way. I act like a man, because I'm straight

    • You can't be born gay. It's a conscious choice. It depends on a person's upbringing if they are going to be that way or not.
