They should reintroduce age restrictions on songs because clearly the “Parental Guidance” warnings aren’t working!

I know this is an old debate that happened in the early 2000’s over the hip hop/rap culture and it’s effects on teenagers and young adults in regards to gun violence and gang culture but now we have a new problem in today’s music industry which requires us to start this debate all over again but this time it’s got nothing to do with the hip hop/rap culture, it’s to do with what I like to call the slut culture.

Today we have young girls as young as 10 years old singing and dancing to sexually explicit songs and once they figure out what the lyrics mean in a few years time, then those girls are going to be opened up to a toxic culture full of sex, prostitution, teenage pregnancies and possibly even sexual abuse and rape. These sexually explicit songs are basically teaching our young girls how to be sluts and whores even before they reach their teen years.

And who is responsible for this slut culture you say? Well, the blame lies firmly with artists such as Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, Saweetie, Doja Cat, Charli XCX, Flo Milli, Iggy Azalea, Bebe Rexha and Ariana Grande.

All of these women have created music within the last decade that is destroying our young girl’s innocence and exposing them to the slut culture.

And which songs are guilty of this slut culture you ask? Where do I begin! How about these:

WAP - Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion

Super Freaky Girl - Nicki Minaj

Body - Megan Thee Stallion

I Like It - Cardi B

In The Party - Flo Milli

My Type - Saweetie

Bodak Yellow - Cardi B

Positions - Ariana Grande

Hot Girl - Charli XCX

34+35 - Ariana Grande

And so many more!

But what is it about these songs that are so bad you ask? Well apart from the questionable song titles, it’s the lyrics in the songs that make them bad. Let me give you a few example:

In WAP (which actually stands for Wet Ass Pussy) by Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion, these lyrics can be heard:

“Beat it up nigga, catch a charge, extra large and extra hard, put this pussy right in your face, swipe your nose like a credit card, hop on top, I want a ride, I do a kegel while it’s inside, spit in my mouth, look at my eyes, this pussy is wet, come take a dive, tie me up like I’m surprised, let’s role play, I’ll wear a disguise, I want you to park this big Mack truck right in this little garage, make it cream, make me scream, out in public, make a sense, I don’t cook, I don’t clean, but let me tell you I got this ring”

In Super Freaky Girl by Nicki Minaj these lyrics can be heard:

”I can lick it, I can ride it while you slipping and sliding, I can do all them little tricks, and keep the dick up inside it, you can smack it, you can grip it, you can go down and kiss it, and every time he leaves me alone, he always tells me he miss it, he want a F-R-E-A-K”

In 34+35 (which adds up to 69 (the name of a sex position) if you can’t do the math) by Ariana Grande these lyrics can be heard:

”So whatcha doing tonight? Better say ‘Doing you right?’ (Yeah), watching movies but we ain’t seen a thing tonight, I don’t want to keep you up, but show me, can you keep it up? Cause then I’ll have to keep you up, shit, maybe I’ma keep you up, I’ve been drinking coffee, and I’ve been eating healthy, know I keep it squeaky, yeah, saving up my energy, can you stay up all night? Fuck me until daylight? 34+35 (yeah), can you stay up all night? Fuck me until daylight? 34+35”

These examples are why we need to reintroduce age restrictions on songs, because clearly the “Parental Guidance” sticker system isn’t working and that is leaving a lot of vulnerable young girls exposed to the slut culture.

  • This debate is much older than that. Purity in music, dangerous lyeics, and some such has been a marching drum since the beginning of recorded music. And yes, many artists do push the boundaries both in violence, and sexual content.

The other half of it is that labels have been used to censor, edit and blacklist music. Especially anti-establishment music. This is contrary to free speech, especially political free speech (such as the charges against Jello Biafra and Alternative Records. A singer, political activist, polititian, and professor who was tried criminally in an attempt to censor his messages).

The moment you allow censorship the first type of speech those in power will try and censor is political. I assure you, that some 10 year old repeating some dirty lyric is not going to corrupt our youth. Dirty songs are not new, I have a collection of 18th century songs that are very very sexually explicit and yes, recording technology allows these types of songs to get from closed environments to the house and bedrooms. But that simply doesn't change the fact that free speech is necessary for a free society.

  • You are absolutely right and very perceptive for your age. If you live in a community where the culture is anti-moral, you will perpetuate bad behavior that ruins lives. The difference between communities doesn't have to do with things like race or racism. It has to do with the culture they tolerate and promote. Until the people of the community learn this lesson, they will never get ahead.

  • I don’t know. My dad told me that when he was a kid my grandmother was convinced he’d end up as a devil worshiper because he listened to heavy metal. He’s certainly no devil worshiper he’s been listening to that stuff since he was probably 13 or 14. In fact it’s because of him that I got into that kind of music.

  • I heard sexual songs on the radio at night when I was younger. Unless parents always listen to the songs their kids do there's not really a way to censor them.

  • If I had children I would never let them listen to any of those artists because their music sucks anyway.

  • Y’all talk about this like you didn’t try to figure out how to masturbate right before your period hit for the first time.

  • despite explicit, still a website can only say "confirm you are 18" then the 4 year old taps yes, to listen.

    • Lol.

  • They have parental controls on phones and computers that parents can use (along with proper supervision) to control what their kids are listening to.
We don't need more government overstep, just better parenting

  • Of course

  • I agree.

  • They sure love their culture, don't they?

  • Thank you. 👍👍💯

  • They are quite explicit. There have always been explicit songs but never with this much mainstream popularity and distribution. When I see these videos I feel like Dewy Cox near the end of Walk Hard when they show him what they've done with his song.

If you haven't seen that movie, do yourself a favor.

Yes, I think there should be age restrictions on stuff like this.

  • This goes back much further than the early 2000's. Tipper Gore got the parental advisory label placed on music in the 80's. The 70's were the start of the Satanic Panic. The list goes on all the way back to jazz in the 20's. The fault doesn't fall on the artist, it falls on the parents. If parents don't want their kids to listen to it, then be parents and be involved in your kids lives. It's not up to the world to raise your kids.

  • Can't agree more

  • I kind of disagree with the sentiment that the internet should be more tightly controlled. Your intentions are good, but that level of censorship is impossible to implent. Plus we had Macarena played on every radio station and elementary school to boot and girls in my generation didn't all turn into cheating sluts.

Moralities are taught by parents not catchy songs

  • agree 100%, this is totally unacceptable. i would restrict the songs to anyone as morality is the same no matter age but atlast force bleeped versions

  • I would just point to countless research showing violent or sexually explicit media not affecting kid’s behavior or psychology one bit.

And the kids will listen to this crap no matter what. The only variable is whether they hate you for trying to censor them…or if you promote a positive open discussion of songs and violent movies.

  • What are you gonna do?

  • This BS about censoring sexuality is nothing new and it's a stupid idea. Old people were complaining about Elvis being too sexual because he moved his hips while singing, they even had to censor out the bottom half of his body when he first appeared on TV.

There's nothing wrong with sex, there's something wrong with you. End of discussion.

  • Stop beating a dead horse.
