Me, personally, I have very little interest in VR. In any sense. Reality is fascinating enough to me. I don't find the intricacies mundane. They are better than the fantastical that people dream up, sometimes. But I'm not the future, I'll be gone eventually and there's no doubt it will be everywhere. No point me debating it. So I only have one thing to say, really...

Will the adoption and mass saturation of VR 'mates' have a detrimental effect on irl relationships?
Or will they be a useful replacement for what is missing in some peoples' lives?

Did you know some sex dolls can have a 'resistance mode' (or whatever they call it) where the 'girl' challenges the guy, plays hard to get, is sassy, difficult, says no? It tries to simulate more real life interactions.
How about we call this 'boyfriend training mode'. Guys would probably not like that, but let's call a spade a spade. No person should get everything they want in life. That's not how it works. Just because you can buy many things you want, should you be able to buy a relationship, customized to your every whim and taste? I wonder if the compromise, and viability, hinges on this.

I think virtual cannot replace/ever be the same as "real". And this is exactly what's wrong in today's world. People are letting technology take over their lives to the point they aren't"really" experiencing "real" life. Online dating verses dating in person. Sexting by text or video instead of real action.
What a waste of life and opportunity.

I think it will in the long run actually generate more loneliness. I think it will be detrimental to the user's growth as a person. Having someone who has a free will (including the will to leave you at any time) is truly wonderful.

Also, I'm a very touchy feely type of person. I love physical affection. At no time in my life would this ever cut it for me.

If it could be demonstrated to me that it *doesn't* generate more loneliness and *doesn't* stunt a person's emotional growth, then I've no problem with it, though it would never be for me.
