Let's get something clear. A vagina is a sack of muscles, in many ways resembling the structure and (rather unattractive) look of a stomach too. What most people are referring to when they say "vagina" is actually called the VULVA. You (almost) never actually see a vagina, because it is inside the woman's pelvis, the part you can see, the labia major (the outer "lips") and labia minora (the inner lips), and of course, the all important clitoris, the source of so much pleasure when correctly stroked or licked. What constitutes "correctly" varies a great deal for each woman.
So having gone through most of the anatomy, sort of establishing a map of the territory, one source of odors is the uretheral opening. There was a really interesting episode of the television show, "Orange is the New Black" in which the transsexual lady explained to the other inmates that they do no pee from their vagina, it is that separate opening, about half way from the vagina's opening and the clitoris. They were were amazed to learn this and crowded into the restroom to here the rest of her lecture. She knew all about it because she had discussed in detail with her plastic surgeon how she wanted her vulva to look. I call the "pee hole" a source of odor but proper washing (and wiping if you don't have a bidet) a shower every day takes care of this provided you wash the vulva area that same as any other part of you body. If you are expecting your date to include sex, it is a good idea to have a shower just before you dress for the date. If your soap has any scent (smell) at all, that's what your vulva will likely smell like.
A vulva that has not been washed well and recently can have an accumulation of smegma a rather unpleasant mild "fishy" smell.
Even with daily sex the ejaculate (sperm) from the male into the vagina would normally be rinsed away by the natural flow of secretions in the vagina that are there for exactly that reason - to keep the vagina (inside you) clean. You have to keep that area of the vulva clean, or it will have an odor from the sperm. (This assumes, of course, that you are using "the pill" or an intrauterine device for prevent pregnancy. A male or female condom is always a good idea in this time of rampant spread of STD's. Although the first two are a more reliable version of birth control.)
Prejudice dies slowly, many boys still believe,"Smells like fish, tastes like chicken."
