If you're anything like me, I typically spend weeks (even months) trying to find the perfect gift for my boyfriend. I scout gift guides online trying to find a unique and special something that shows him how much I care - but in reality, is Nordstrom really going to know what gift will make my boyfriend smile?
Rather than trusting stores to lock down the perfect gift, I searched the GirlsAskGuys.com community for a little insight into the male brain. What I found from users was quite surprising, and a little refreshing. Rather than the typical material items I expected, GAG guys preferred a more DIY approach - Check out the top three gifts guys really want for Valentines:

This request deserves an “aw” - Who knew so many guys had a soft side? Rather than purchasing a gift this year, try surprising your guy with a handmade card expressing a sweet sentiment inside about how much he means to you, and pair that with a framed picture of the two of you that he can display in his room or his office.
3. Food
It’s true what they say, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Whether you cook him a homemade meal, or surprise him with a “Hillshire Farms Sausage Basket” as one guy requested, he will definitely be satisfied this V-Day.

The card idea is none too bad. It shows your partner is making an effort, taking time out their schedule for you (it can be applied both ways, men and women). Though I don't treat Valentines Day as any significant occasion. If you really want to surprise your partner, treat your loved one with a surprise Rose or a simple "love you" card on any random day. It heightens the impact, unlike on Valentines Day its generally expected.
