My fiance is going to be deployed for a year. I asked him how he's going to deal with it (sexually) and he said he will be fine going without anything because he did until the time he was 18.

Depending on what task his unit has going on he’s going to be extremely busy adjusting those first couple of weeks in country. So he’ll be too tired. But once he’s adjusted it’s game on. You mentioned that he’ll be in the desert in a tent with 15 other troops. Believe me when I say those late nights in the sleeping bag after talking to you on the phone it just might happen. Not only that but we always find porn (or any type of pornographic material) floating around the FOB. Someone knows someone that has a new clip, stored somewhere for the on coming unit to enjoy and help pass the time. He’ll find a way, place and time for a “deployment jerk” it happens.
On the other hand (no pun intended)
If he doesn’t stroke it for a year than so be it. Maybe he was to busy and tired to do it or it never crossed his mind.

As a veteran myself, I can tell you he will be too busy and tired to think of sex. When not in combat, he will be given a bunch of bullshit and very physical tasks that higher ups want to avoid doing. Between that and trying to find time to keep in touch with loved ones, he will not be too worried about sex. This is even more true if he is a Marine or in some kind of special warfare (SEALs, Army Ranger, Marsoc, etc.)
