To me sex starts when u decide mentally to get intimate ( sex starts in the mind). After that it's pretty much a physical expression of the mental creation.

  So the want, the need, the expectations everything start within the mind ( including how your heart beats faster, how you start to feel etc). Once you are mentally ready, then comes the action ( the physical aspects including talking, touching, feeling, exploring etc). Without the mental involvement, the physical attributes of sex are just an action or a reaction. Hence they me sex begins far before the action starts.
