It means: having sex with (at least) several partners in a short amount of time, and also usually means that you aren't in a relationship with them and may not even know them.

And, yes, I definitely had a period in my life when I was promiscuous. I was in my early 30s, and was around a lot of single girls in their 20s, and I definitely took advantage of the situation I was in. I was also up-front about it, and they weren't looking for relationships either, so no one got hurt, etc. I *do* try not to be a dick about stuff like that.

Whereas monogamy is simply the opposite- being against that idea.
