And let me tell you a little about floggers - some of which is counter-intuitive, so pay attention:

Floggers that are heavy and have lots of falls (the strips or cords that hit the body) are "thuddy" and not very stingy, and are probably what you want to start with. The fewer falls they have, and the thinner the falls are, the more stingy the flogger will feel. I like the smooth handle from some hair styling brushes. The back is curved and the weight is just right for smacking that thing. I've also used two paint stirring sticks, like you get free when you buy paint, glued together. Need to sand the edges. Don't want any splinters. These are much more controllable than a whip. An alternative that's in between that I probably like best is a riding crop with a very narrow tab.
