As a Brit I always wondered about "hazing" at college in the USA.
Obviously the (basically) porn videos aren't representative, but films and true anecdotes seem to paint hazing as a super humiliating ritual.
Does this actually happen? or what DOES actually happen?
We don't really have it in our universities, besides sports team making new recruits drink a lot.
This probably came from the "mother land" in the first place and goes back ages. This is something that the VAST majority of people in modern US do not experience. I think it probably still exists in fraternities, and possibly military academies, but nowhere else. It's pretty much in the distant past.
In the US, there has been a lot of effort to eliminate hazing where it still exists. There has been a lot of laws to reduce it. I don't know how successful it's been. But I have to stress that it's a very small minority of people who experience it, and those are people who voluntarily enter into those situations.
I have no idea what porn has to do with it. Hazing is completely unrelated to porn.
It does to a point. Nothing like porn or the American Pie movies. But the over drinking and stuff like that sure. They call it initiation.
I agree on some sort of initiation. But nothing that would be considered hazing.
A fraternity and sorority are like a private club. Nothing wrong with an initiation. But also as one being selected by them, supposedly you have to keep grades up and etc... If you can't do that you are kicked out.
That's how its supposed to work, but only in a perfect world.
I think it’s different all over the world. I moved to America after college and heard some stories. Where I went to college they had common rituals that looking back can be seen as a little crazy 😝

Yeah, that’s not a real thing. To some level in fraternities or sororities sure. But no, you will never see anything in reality like what you may see in movies. Especially in porn.

Basically what ur sports team does to to the new recruits but less dangerous.. I’ve never been in frat but I’ve asked what the new guys do, it’s clean up the mess after the party is all I can remember.

Because Europeans are too civilized compared to Americans, that's why such things don't happen in Europe, only in the US.

Yes it happens at universities in america but it also happens in britain as well. It's not just school here in America
