What's the difference between a booty call, fuck buddy, and a FWB?

What the title says, and explain what you see the difference as.

  • They're all similar, but in my opinion have very minor differences.

    A Booty Call is someone who you usually don't see very often or on any kind of a regular, set schedule. Rather, they're a person you can randomly call on a night when you are horny, whether it's been a week or 6 months since you've talked to them, and you can hook up and fuck. They are okay not hearing from you again until the next hook-up, be it in a week or several months.

    A Fuck Buddy is someone you regularly have sex with, and NOTHING ELSE. You meet up, fuck, and leave. You aren't really "friends" (but rather just acquaintances), you don't hang out, you don't cuddle afterwards, etc. You really only get together to fuck.

    A friends with benefits is someone you regularly have sex with, but are also FRIENDS with to SOME degree. That means you might occasionally talk (other than to arrange sex), or hang out, or do things with, either alone or with groups of friends. You also fuck, and most of your relationship is based on fucking, but there IS an additional "friend" component to the relationship.

    Obviously, in none of these relationships should there ever be any expectation that the relationship will ever become an "official" relationship (dating, boyfriend/girlfriend-type) - all of these relationships acknowledge that you are using each other (and allowing yourself to be used) for sex.

  • I'm going to go out on a limb and explain why I think they are three distinct things. Yes, all three are casual sex situations that exist outside of an actual relationship, but there are distinct differences in each arrangement.

    Booty call is probably the most basic one and has the least strings attached. Booty call is when you are just the girl he calls randomly after midnight when he wants some. You won't hear from him otherwise, period. You don't stay the night. You don't associate with him at all outside the bedroom. Booty call can be a one time thing, or sometimes it can go on sporadically for a long time. There is usually more than one booty call on the roster, too. Booty call is your sure thing when you've completely struck out for the evening and just want a piece.

    • Fuck buddy is a little more involved than booty call, but is not quite FWB. To me the main difference between booty call and fuck buddy is that fuck buddy tends to be a little more personal, although not by much. Fuck buddies might text now and then, and it's more acceptable to stay the night with a fuck buddy and possibly have breakfast the next day even. You don't hang out with fuck buddies other than that, though. Fuck buddy doesn't tend to be a one-off thing like a booty call can be, but it's still nowhere near a relationship or even FWB. People do tend to keep a fuck buddy around longer than a booty call, and there is more familiarity there. You ever have that one friend that say, loves rock climbing, and he's the first person you call when you want to go climbing but you don't really hang out with him otherwise because that's the only activity you two have a mutual interest in? That's pretty much what a fuck buddy is.

    • friends with benefits is the most personal of the three, has the most strings attached, and is probably the most confusing one of all. If a casual sex situation ends with hurt feelings, it is usually an friends with benefits type deal. Key word in friends with benefits is FRIENDS. Basically, friends with benefits is someone you hang out with outside the bedroom, call whenever you want to chat, acknowledge in public, and you might even occasionally go on 'dates' with them, depending on your definition of the word. You also happen to fuck them. friends with benefits is very close to a boyfriend, but a million miles away at the same time. friends with benefits is usually what you get when a guy doesn't want to commit, but still likes you and wants to sleep with you while he waits for something else to come along. friends with benefits tends to be a one person type of deal, and usually there will be feelings on at least one end, even if they are not acknowledged.

    but, I'll say this: I've never done the nooty call thing, the idea of having sex and the guy getting up an leaving after as always seemed gross to me. Idk. friends with benefits is a horrible idea, one friend ALWAYS has feelings for the other, weather they want to admit it or not. it never ends well. fuck buddies, on the other hand are simply convenient. you get together when you're horny, have (hopefully) great sex, and unlike what @mroracle said you may or may not cuddle after. then you part in the morning. yes, you don't hang out, they may even be someone you despise otherwise, but simply love to use for sex.

  • Booty call: A person you call when you wanna have sex; you don't have so much of a relationship with that person, he's there only in cases of emergencies, depression, etc.
    Fuck buddy: Someone you fuck but can't stand for any other thing. Like the sex is great but the person is stupid or you don't have a single thing in common, so you could look for something more.
    FWB: awesome sex, friendship, great communication, common perspective on things; but the people can't do a relationship, when the things got official they are lost so they keep it simple.

  • 1. Booty call & fuck buddy are the same just that Booty Call is colloquial whereas Fuck Buddy is more of a formal term.
    2. In BC / FB it's just for sex, no friendship, no discussions or compulsions or obligations of any friendship. It's a purely carnal relationship as clearly understood between the 2 people
    3. friends with benefits on the other hand is also a friend which is why FRIENDS with benefits, where benefit is 'sex'
    4. In friends with benefits you can meet up for coffee, share a few things between each other, go for movies, hang out etc BUT w/o any formal relationship that sex usually entails :-)

  • A booty call and a fuck buddy are pretty close. A booty call is someone that you call once in a blue moon because you know you can get some from that person..
    A fuck buddy is a person you hook up with on a regular basis to have casual sex.
    A friends with benefits is a person that is your friend first and foremost.. and you have agreed to move the friendship to the next level where you give each other some benefits. Most of the time it involves sexual intercourse, but it could be as little as cuddling and kissing with nothing sexual.
