What's the difference between a slut & a prostitute?

Prostitute - a woman (or man) who sleeps around with people they have typically just met, have little to no feelings for, and are just after sex. May be doing it because they've money or addiction issues & are desperate. Asks for money.

Slut - a woman (or man) who sleeps around with people they have typically just met, have little to no feelings for, and are just after sex. May be doing it because they've low self-esteem/respect issues and are desperate. Free.

Anyone want to put in a legitimate claim for difference between the two?

For the record I'm **not** a slut. I've got a lot of self respect & high standards. But I've heard a number of girls/women on GAG and irl trying to argue that being a slut is "ok". Personally, if I were a guy, I'd see them as free prostitutes.

The obvious difference. Sluts choose to be promiscuous & prostitutes are often forced into it by their own design (money, drug, etc. issues) or their childhood (e. g. abuse).

  • Update, Prostitute is ONLY doing it for the money, nothing else. There's no "may" about it lol. They'd happily do it with no sex even because the money is all they are after. Example dinner dates, you can get an escort for that.

I don't believe in "sluts", it's a word that shouldn't exist. But this is just someone who enjoys sex, and it could be for many reasons like you've said, but not all are negative. ie, I don't believe that they have self esteem issues or "desperate", while this could be true, it could also be they enjoy sex, are single, and see nothing wrong with it if it's consenting adults and nobody is getting hurt.

    • ROFL. Ignorant fool. A number of prostitutes aren't doing it out of their own free will. If they were pimps that beat the shit out of them for not meeting a nightly/daily/monthly quota wouldn't exist. Escorts aren't exactly run of the mill prostitutes so they don't count. The word slut is adept. Just like how the word prostitute is adept. A lot of sluts, after all, have self esteem issues and they desperately seek a little bit of affection to feel good about themselves. Little less than that.

    • Your opinion and mine lol. We all have them.

  • Sluts are choosier. Prostitutes often don't get to choose their clients. Sluts are free to do what they do. Prostitutes are much more likely to be slaves, and many of them were taken and started their current way of life as children.

There is absolutely a difference between human trafficking and promiscuity.

    • Oh, there's that difference. Not denying that. But in the basics sluts choose to be promiscuous & prostitutes are often forced into it.

Sluttiness is a tired social construct.

  • The difference is that the prostitute is a criminal that provides nothing of value to society but claims its benefits, dodges taxes and aids crime.

A promiscuous person is someone who is simply just doing something on their own time that isn't really anyone else's business.

What prostitutes do IS our business, because they are parasites.

  • The money. But there's another difference as well - "prostitute" is an objective, neutral, purely discriptional term, while "slut" is loaded with subjective opinion and used to purposely describe in a derogatory way.

    • How can a statement of fact (slut) be derogatory? I mean they choose to be promiscuous. A prostitute typically doesn't have much say in it.

    • What I was saying is tha "slut" is more than a statement. It's a statement loaded with deliberate judgement. For instance, when you call a prostitute a "whore", then that's also more than just a statement of fact, it's a statement of fact (prostitution) and on top of that an intentional judgement (whore).

    • If you wanted to describe a promiscuous person without judging them or being derogatory towards them, you could call them simply promiscuous. Calling someone a "slut" is a very specific choice of words.

  • One does it for the money. The other does it for fun. Hey Jazzmen, I’ll have another.

  • A prostitute is an entrepreneur, voluntarily exchanging things of value with clients.
A slut is a woman who gives her treasure away carelessly, gaining nothing.

  • They're literally two different things

    • Not by much. Sluts choose to be promiscuous & prostitutes are often forced into it by their own design or childhood. In that regard which is less savory. The slut who chooses to be as she is? Or the prostitute who may have no say?

  • Prostitute do it because they're forced and slut do it because they like it

  • A slut is just gross low impulse control, probably selfish with a mean streak. A prostitute is someone very damaged a much more tragic figure.

  • The difference is one gives it up for free.

  • One get paid and one fucks for free.

  • The only real difference is the exchange of money... That having been said, based on societal expectations, going on dates with a slut, would be the equivalent of prostitution because she likely expects him to pay for everything. Neither are good in my opinion.

    • @your update I agree

  • she claims to be no slut. yeah right. we believe you.

  • The prostitute gets paid!

  • I personally think a "prostitute" is basically a "slut", but charges money for Her time... Like a business, or something.

  • Prostitutes get paid, sluts don't.

  • I don't believe any person is a slut. Its derogatory. A prostitute is someone who gets paid for sex..

    • How can a statement of fact be derogatory? I mean they choose to be promiscuous. A prostitute typically doesn't have much say in it.

    • Calling someone a slut is very subjective. How do you define promiscuous? Everyone has a different opinion on it... The word slut is one of the reasons women on GaG keep asking if their body count is too high. What number makes someone a slut 5? 10? That's why I said its derogatory. Often the word is also used just to damage someone's reputation without any evidence.

    • No, it's not subjective. Slut definition > a woman who has many casual sexual partners. It's no more subjective than saying fire is hot & water quenches thirst. A woman (or man) with a number of causal (meaningless) sexual partners **is** a slut.

  • one gets paid and the other does it because they genuinely enjoy sex

  • Sluts have sex for free. Whores do it for money.
