When you were a kid, how comfortble was your family with nudity or "partial nudity"?

I dont recall ever seeing my sister in her underwear.
I don't recall ever seeing my sister in her underwear.

Not talking about letting a three year old child go naked at the beach or leting siblings take a bath together up to age 5-6. Talking about when you were 8-9 years old and older. Were you parents okay with you seeing them nude? In their underwear? Or were they always in pajamas, a bathrobe, or fully dressed?

Did you and your siblings lounge around the house nude? Including opposite sex siblings? Did you lounge around the house in your underwear? Girls, did you go topless? Did your family ever go to nudist beaches or resorts?

When you have children, or with your current children, what are your house rules for being naked? So, after age 6 . . .

  • I almost feel like this question could be directed at me.

    My mother has body issues, self conscience from how she grew up, being told and taught that her naked body was bad.

    To this day she still does, as a result she raised us all to be okay with in our own skin.

    That there is nothing wrong with us not wearing clothing, that if someone has a issue with it. That is something the other person needs to resolve, it is not our problem that they have a issue with it.

    That they are always free NOT TO LOOK if it bothers them, no one is forcing them to.

    As a result, it was G for us, mostly. My brothers could have friends over and I could wander around naked, no big deal. There were a few people that my mom would ask us to either get dressed or stay in our rooms until they left. It was very uncommon.

    Some might say we were naturalists/nudists but we were weren't, it was simply personal choice. Some of us did, some didn't.

    Lets just say, I was so often that all my family members knew exactly what all of me looked like and were used to it.

    • I grew up a lot like this as well. Not sure there was a reason for it really, mom died when I was little so it was probably just less laundry for my overwhelmed dad. That and we were more rural, so no busybody neighbors to complain.

  • Underwear was okay (but not with guests ofcourse), but my parents did not like nudity. So I could only be naked when in my own room.

    When I moved out at age 18, I started living naked. Should I ever have kids, I will raise them nudist (but actually, I'd rather not have kids).

  • No nudity growing up. My fiancée and I are very open to it however, and will be more open with our future kids

  • We were a nudist family, so nudity was acceptable almost all of the time. I voted G, but I will say it wasn't all visitors- we'd put clothes on for a lot of visitors, but if they were extended family or other nudists, we wouldn't have to.

  • Selected F. It just didn't matter. We all had bodies. Some had one kind of parts, the other had the other parts. It's not something to make a big deal about. My parents and us didn't. If someone wanted privacy, we gave it to each other. If someone wanted to walk from their room to the bathroom naked, they did that too. Just didn't matter.

    When I was a kid, I just didn't care. Like, I wasn't about to run around naked for the sake of it, but I had no issues in the locker room or going from my bedroom to the shower naked.

    Same thing in my house now with my kids. You get privacy if you want it and you respect what other people want. So if Kid A doesn't want to see Kid B naked, Kid B can't walk around naked. It's as simple as that. But I don't cringe and hide if one of my kids walks in while I'm changing or taking a shower or whatever. It's just not a big deal.

  • My sister and I often roamed the house in our underwear or night-time wear, at least until we got dressed in the morning. My sister, 8 years older than me, wore a baby doll nighty to bed, which didn't cover much when she sat down. That was the first time I saw a woman's genitals... I was around 6 or 7.

  • There is a lot to address here. My parents were very anti-nudity, although at night my dad would sometimes come out in his underwear. In my late teens I started going around my house naked, but only when my parents weren't home. My sister was fine with it. Currently, I am married and my wife and I have both gone to nudist resorts and hang around the house naked. If we have kids, I will let them decide if they want to get dressed, the only rule will be they have to wear clothes in places they would be arrested if they didn't otherwise.
