There is no set rule. But for best results pay attention to your partner. If they are not returning the same kind of kiss you are then you’re moving too fast and you need to tone it down. Usually best to start with very light kisses like a peck. Not trying to ram your tongue down their throat.

Also, I have never kissed without using hands first. Touch, even if it is just an arm, helps warm the other person up.

It's pretty instinctive, pretty much just go in and follow what feels right, as for your hand just put them behind your back and if you want put your arms around him as you got in and hold him in a lose sort of hug.
