Who gives power to the term 'Slut'?

Life is full of myths masqueraded as realities

Equality between the sexes is one such, with it preached and accepted by many but still very much a myth. Existing with insidious subtlety or blatantly in all walks of life embodied in one term:

'Slut'

A catch cry of male control and dominance over women throughout the ages. Ruminating through acidic shame imposed on them if they dare to step out of the very narrow lane they are supposed to stay within dictating 'ladylike' behaviour.

With the sexual liberation of 40 years back this term should have been buried long ago but it still exists with the same fervour now.

Looming large in mindsets

The irony is the preeminence of the term in female minds with them perversely imposing it on themselves.

Individually, or in groups, before even touching on their sexual behaviour, the term will linger when discussing how they act or dress. Knowing the catty nature of females coupled with fear of ostracisation from their sisterhood they relent to the pressure of their peers.

When it does get to sex, the consequences dominate. Worry about unwanted pregnancy or STD's is always apparent, but it is more about their name. Many seem deluded by the fact that every man wants an untouched, virgin bride. And if they have been sexually free they worry of the judgement that will be forthcoming from both friend and foe with the associated label that will always follow.

It makes you question why women still accept imprisonment by the dim dark past.

Without realising that what they still accept in the now will pass on to future generations including any daughters they might have.

    Well think of it this way. For as far as i can remember, men have been the ones to pursue. They have been the ones who would have to do all the work to "woo" girls. While women get to sit there, doll themselves up, wait for the men to flick in, and choose the most qualified. Men have to do work to get sex. Women don't. That's just the way it is. And i don't want any of the "its not as easy as you say it is. -I- don't get guys to flock to me" well may i remind you that we are on GAG - a relationship advice website. The only people who NEED advice, are the ones who aren't as good at relationships right? Well therefore, if you are on GAG, you aren't like the average woman. You have more trouble than they do with relationships. But i am talking about the average woman. Not the misfits on GAG. And i hate to break it to you, but it is the absolute truth that the average woman gets flocked by interested guys.

    This is why girls who have a lot of sex are considered sluts. Because they didn't have to do any work to get that sex (unlike men who DO have to work for it.) and this is all because of the "men pursue women" gender role.

    What if the tables were turned? What if women were expected to pursue men? What if men would be flocked by women, and all he had to do was pick one? Then in that scenario, men would be the sluts, and women would be the studs! Are you getting what I'm saying now?

    Women want to get rid of the slut/stud double standard so bad, but what they don't know is that the answer is right under their noses. All you women have to do is stop sitting on your lazy asses waiting for a guy to pursue you and pursue HIM for a change! This is what you have to do if you REALLY want this double standard to go away.

    You have two options:
    1. Continue to sit on your lazy ass waiting for guys to pursue you, and have to suck it up with the double standard.
    2. Start pursuing men for a change, and get rid of the double standard.

    I'm on YOUR side. I want this double standard to go away soon. But the sooner you realize that this is the only solution is this, the sooner the double standard will go away.

  • Meh, I always just thought the word 'slut' was a not so pleasant adjective to describe some not so great behavior. No different from the word bitch or asshole. Yes, some people use the word aimlessly over no reason at all. However, for a lot of people, the word is used describe a woman or man who allows their genital to override integrity and seems to think getting an orgasm is more of a priority than being a decent human being. It's referential to the girl who sleeps with her boyfriend's friend or the female who knows she's attracted to a married man yet pursues him anyway.

  • A guy gets called a slut, no biggie, they don't care. A women gets called a slut and she is oppressed.

  • My opinion my be the minority but it's what i think so i stand by it regardless.

    1) women call each other sluts way more than men do

    2) women do this because they are insecure and feel the need to pick people apart and label them to build this hierarchy of who is worthy of a partner or not (i. e if i call this chick a slut no one will want her and i'll be more desirable)

    3) men label women sluts too, but mostly in some empty child-like way to hurt them or name call when they're upset

    4) lastly, i believe in freedom of speech so if you wanna call a girl a slut you can. if you wanna call a guy a pig or dog or player you can as well. people need to toughen up (stop being fucking sensitive wet blankets) and learn to take the punches life throws at you

    • The difference is slut is very derogatory pig and asshole is not gender specific which is why it doesn't have the same effect mind you player is a compliment lol.

    • even if women use it more than men which i doubt seeing as men invented the concept. the point is if its just to 'attack' they could use anything. slut is not something used against men even if it used on them, it doesn't carry weight. and women dont feel entitled to rape women bc they are 'sluts'.

  • Honestly, I've heard way more girls call each other whores and sluts then guys. Whenever a guy called a girl a slut it was because she cheated which im ok with one he did. But. girls are way worse with each other when it comes to. that stuff. I for one want girls to be sexually free, because the more promiscues they are, the more sex that is open for the rest of. us guys. If girls want to use me jusy for sex, im ok with that. By the way, i think girls are the ones who screw themselves over. Who try to use sex over guys. So dont just blame men, pretty sure the majority of those issues come from women.

  • Ultimately the individual gives power to words. You are the decider of how things affect you. It's your own choice to accept someone's negative interpretation of your lifestyle.
