Why are most people embarrassed to show their private parts?

I was thinking about this and I’m curious why most people, myself included, are embarrassed to show their privates. Are we programmed to think that way?

It's this society we live in. We are made to believe that private parts are naughty. And then there are some religions that say sex is sinful and masturbation is wrong. I try not to bash people's beliefs, but some of that is so damn ridiculous. I get embarrassed when people see me naked, especially my pubic hairs for some reason!

Society has this program to believe what they want us to believe. The human body is a beautiful thing. Whoever decided we should wear clothes was definitely taking drugs that day! Because here is a fun fact... Clothes can cause skin irritation for some people, and some people are allergic to certain materials, and also clothes are constricting, like for example, men's underwear can cause sexual dysfunction. Now there are some types of underwear they make to prevent this issue, still, that's a whole lot of work trying to figure out what kind of underwear to buy!

So because someone was too ashamed of their body, society says we have to wear clothes! Yeah, I tend to overthink. It's probably because I'm a writer and a lot of times, thoughtful bounce around inside my head over and over! But yeah, that's my opinion.

Hmm. I have ASKED to look at a woman's privates. I had a married woman friend who was a neighbor in an apartment complex. We talked about sex and what we liked when we were together, and her husband was in classes in grad school.

When you consider that some indigenous cultures around the world can freely walk around each other naked without there being a care, compared to first world, western cultures where we cover up, then the answer is yes, it's because we're programmed. Cooler climates have evolved to have us wear clothing, and some religions have made up reasons to think of sex as being dirty, and our bodies to be ashamed of. So yes, programmed. This becomes wired throughout our mental/neurological selves to instinctively cover up if we're exposed since it's a repeated action at all times to make sure we are.

Adam had a first wife, Lilith, who was cast into the shadows and forsaken about because unlike Eve who was good at being chattel & lesser than Adam in ways for Adam "created" her via a rib; Lilith refused not to be treated as less than an equal.

According to the Bible, Adam and Eve were naked and remained that way until the were tempted by the devil to eat the one fruit they were forbidden to eat. That fruit caused them to be embarrassed by their nakedness and covered themselves. God saw that and cast them out of the garden for their disobedience. So naked was good and covering was bad. As for Lilith, She is mentioned only once in the Bible (Isaiah 34:14) as a dweller in waste places, not as a wife of Adam. And the Bible specifically talks of the creation of Adam and then of Eve to be a helper (and partner) to Adam. No Lilith before her. Lilith is a female figure in Mesopotamian and Judaic mythology who some people decided must have been a first wife, even though that is not the account in the Bible. Lilith was characterized as a seducer or slayer of children in ancient Babylonian religion.

Programmed! Little kids are not embarrassed when naked. It is only after they have been taught to wear clothes that they become bothered to be naked. A lot of people break out of that and are not bothered when seen nude. And every year many thousands of people take part in the World Naked Bike Ride all over the world. I have ridden in them in the past and a couple of times there were over 10,000 participants in my city alone.

Because from the childhood we are brain wired to not show it. I don't know the reason why it's so, maybe it has some societal meaning.

First, we all wear clothes, to protect out bodies from external temperature conditions, rain, dust, diseases, etc and not used to see private parts of each others. It's just unusual to us. Why would someone do something if everyone else doesn't? it's a herd behavior.

I think it has more to do with the fact that we wear clothes rather than we just want to keep privacy. And we wear clothes not for for privacy. Privacy is a minor factor. People wear clothes 1000s of years.

I'm not embarrassed, but I think a lot of people are because of insecurity about whether their parts would be attractive.
