Why are people not using condoms anymore?

I just got out of a five year relationship and looking to have some fun. My ex and I didn't use condoms but that was only because I was on birth control and we were both tested but no way in hell would I not use protection with a random. I had a casual date with a guy last week and we both knew it would be a one night kind of thing. Well we started fooling around and surprise, surprise.. he didn't have a condom. He wanted to do it without one and said he gets tested every month but I didn't believe him. I got the feeling that I wasn't the only one he was hooking up with so I said no and it was awkward. I know a couple people that got pregnant from their fwb/one nighters and one even got an std! Do people just not use condoms anymore? It seems absurd to me!

  • Tons of people use condoms. However, you need to understand that condoms are awful (to get some idea, imagine how much you would enjoy being taken to a nice restaurant for your favorite meal, but having to eat it with a condom on your tongue - it's very much the same thing), and so plenty of guys will try to avoid using them, and if the girl lets him get away with it, he will. It's stupid, but it's also not hard to see his motivation - to back to the restaurant metaphor.

    Condoms are a necessary evil - but they're still evil, and most guys hate them. As such, it's going to be up to the ladies to enforce condom use, because plenty of guys just don't care about the consequences (that's tomorrow's problem), just their immediate pleasure, so if they can get out of using them, they will.

    It's much smarter to make your rules known at the very beginning, so that you aren't waiting until you are fumbling around in the bedroom to figure things out. Set expectations early!

  • People become more and more irresponsible. One night stands are fine if you’re single and could be good fun, but always with a condom... I won’t leave home without if I knew that something might happen. Nothing wrong with you as a lady having some in a purse hidden away. More chance for recreational sex if at least one had them.

    Yeah, until they get an STD or pregnant! Dumbasses.

    I have nothing against not using a condom if you're in a monogamous relationship, trust your partner, and you and your partner both get tested for STDs regularly, but otherwise? NO.

    I don't care what a guy says or if he refuses to have sex without a condom, I'm not jeopardizing my body and getting knocked up just because a guy doesn't like how a condom feels: either commit to your partner and get the proper birth control, or deal with it!!!

  • I would just take people to the task if they say they get tested recently, have them show you the papers. I know I can show you! Then there is nothing to worry about.

  • It's way more common than it should be. I pretty much insist on condoms, unless I really trust the girl.

  • The answer is obvious, it's better without. I can't give my comparison as I've only had sex three times and I didn't allow any bare skin contact, but I could tell it would've been better without. Some people just shrug the risk off as yes, the risk is low, but they only have to be wrong once, that's what they aren't considering when they do this.
