Why being a short man sucks!

Short for a man is 5'6" and under. It irks me a little when guys who are 5'8" think they're short - do you know what I would give to be an inch below the average!? Tom Cruise may be short in Hollywood, but in the real world, he's in like the 35th percentile. Now, the list!

Why being a short man sucks!

1. Girls

Girls don't like short guys, plain and simple. Unfortunately, it's very hard to avoid seeing all of the hateful comments. A lot of the time it's not just a lack of romantic interest, it's also a certain level of disgust. I don't know about other guys in my position, and although I have mostly moved past it now, reading all of those comments when I was 13/14/15 really hurt me - it may or may not have caused tears. It sucks, but it's true. It's also not something girls are embarrased to admit. It actually seems like it's something that they're proud of. There are things you can do to be more attractive, but you're always missing the one physical characteristic that girls seem to want most: height.

2. You will never be 'that guy'

You can be the most attractive short guy in the world but, you will never know the feeling of walking into a room and having all of the girls want you. You can do everything right: have good sense of style, be respectful, confident, funny, etc. - but then some random 6'4 guy walks into the room with flip-flops and a t-shirt and the girls are all over him.

3. Respect

Everyone assumes that the 'little guy' can't do it. If you want to get any respect at all, you will have to work twice as hard and show you're twice as good as the guy next to you - it seems like this applies to women sometimes too. You have to prove that you can do everything all the time... Which leads into:

4. 'Napolean complex' or 'little man syndrome'

To get anyone to take you seriously, you have to be confident and assertive. But the second that you do, everyone says you have a Napolean complex, and claims that everything you have ever achieved in your entire life has simply been to make up for your lack of height.

5. Weak

People tend to think short men are weak. I'm not sure about other short men, but this isn't the case for me. I personally don't mind proving people wrong, but it can be a little annoying when people just make assumptions. Even women tend to think that because they're taller, they're automatically stronger. Sorry. Not the case.

6. Clothes

No stores seem to stock clothes for short men. I don't think I've ever brought a pair of pants that didn't have to be hemmed.

7. Your feet never touch the ground when sitting

I always have to sit towards the front of a chair so that my feet touch the ground. It may be cute to see a girl swinging her legs in the air, but I just end up feeling like a little boy.

8. People assume you have a small dick

Girls seem to assume that short guys have small dicks. I'm not really sure why. Research disagrees and I can confirm that 100% of the penises I've seen attached to short men have been slightly above average - then again, I've never seen another mans erection, so my sample size is one.

9. "You're so short"

No! Really? I had no idea. Thanks for letting me know.

10. Cute & adorable

Never hot or sexy. Always cute or adorable. Do not call an adult male adorable. Ever. We may be short, but we are still strong, proud men.

What Girls & Guys Said

  • It's funny how women say any woman of any weight is an entitled to a man but a guy who is short is a major dealbreaker. I'm not short at all. I'm 6"2 but I've had short friends with this issue.

  • Makes no sense to me...

  • 5'5 and below is short... i am 5'7... i dont have any problems... Besides i look good too

    • 5'7 is short bro

    • Its not that short

  • Congrats. You successfully vented. And achieved... nothing.

I know a guy who worked a consignment sale with me, years on end. It was a periodic thing, several times a year, one could pick up some cash on a few weekends. The guy's obese, probably a good 75-100 pounds over healthy limit.

He married a hot blond from church that wasn't even 22 years old, I kid you not. A solid 8.

  • #3 is (unfortunately) very true

  • I'm lucky to be just on the cut off point. 5.75 (yes the.5 matters when you're so short! haha). I can buy the buy the shortest available jeans, 30. Luuuckyyy

  • Tall girls get the short end of the stick

    no pun intended

  • It is better to be short than ugly like me lol.

  • Good take. Must have felt great to get that out there.

  • I'm 5'7 but I don't think short men sucks

  • Nah man. Short man can command. Short men are intimidating. I had a 6'3 friend who served in the Navy and his commanding officer was a short guy 5'7. This dude was a scary mofo and my friend doesn't get intimidated easily.

  • Now i feel so ashamed.
and when it comes to #5 fact is that shorter people have more muscles so they are stronger.

    • That is not the case. They have less to cover with muscle, and thus they look more muscular. Me (being 6'4 myself), need to weight at least 95 kg to not look underweight, and that, well, it sucks.

    • Weigh*

    • @Alex97 there may be some truth to that. I am 5'7 and had to get down to like 135 pounds to get the lanky looking body type, but I've stayed at that weight for a while (going on 6 years) and haven't even tried, maybe my metabolism revved up or something lol

  • I'd say get rid of #4-10 and combine #1 and 2. Nice take though

  • Simple--get leg lengthening. I'm a little shorter than 5'7, and I plan on lengthening to 6'1. I make my own destiny and height, not motherfucking nature.

    • lol smh

    • So much hate? Why?

    • At your age you would get growth hormones. Leg breaking and then lengthening is for people who have stopped growing completely.

  • Short is everything below 6'.

  • 3- It depends on your presence more than your height. If you don't act like you can do it, people will assume you can't do it. If I hire someone to build a house, I'm going to pick the shorter, confident guy who knows what he's doing than the tall, bungling guy who just dropped his tools all over the floor and doesn't know how to use a hammer.
1- Girls mainly want a guy who is taller THAN THEM. You don't need to be 6' to attract girls. Unless said girl is like 5'10. But oftentimes girls don't even care about how tall the guy is. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.
10- If "cute and adorable" gets the girls isn't that a good thing. I don't care how I get girls if I get girls.
9- Funny enough, I'm not tall (5'7 1/2 still getting taller a bit) and I've never wanted to be tall. Even when i was 5'2 I had no desire to be tall. I'll probably be average height when I stop growing. I'd rather have a fit, strong body than be tall. Not that I do, I'm just saying that is what I"d prefer.
8- I don't know anyone who assumes someone has a small dick based on their height.
7- I don't know why your feet need to touch the ground. Mine do others don't. I don't feel better because my feet touch the ground.
4-I've never heard anyone say the words "napoleon complex" to anyone.
2- Who wants to be "that" guy anyways. Few friends, a girlfriend good relationships, healthy- much better.
5- I'm around average and I'm weak. Guys shorter than me are stronger. Height doesn't determine strength necessarily
6- Never had a problem finding clothes

  • Non FDA approved pills are the best kind if you want to get taller

  • I'm 5'7... are you telling me I'm not short?

It's not as if just men below your height threshold are affected by this, the vast majority of men would have greater success if they were slightly taller, the shorter you are the greater the impediment it is.

  • Use growth hormone

  • But what about Joe Rogan? Lots of people think he's badass and he's only 5 foot 5 right?

    • He's 5'8

    • He's still much shorter than average, and so many people think he's awesome

    • 5'8 isn't shorter than average. Average is 5'7-5'11.
