  • Men can take birth control, but currently, there are limited options available. The primary methods of male birth control are condoms and vasectomy. There are also ongoing studies and clinical trials for other forms of male birth control, such as hormonal injections or implants.

One of the challenges in developing male birth control is that it involves altering the male reproductive system, which is more complex than the female reproductive system. Hormonal birth control for women works by preventing ovulation, but for men, it would need to suppress sperm production while maintaining testosterone levels. Additionally, there are concerns about potential side effects and long-term health risks of hormonal birth control for men.

Ultimately, the decision to use birth control should be a joint one between partners, and both men and women have a responsibility to take an active role in preventing unintended pregnancy.

    • No need for me to post anything. This intelligent and thoughtful response says everything I would say.

    • @OlderAndWiser thanks, I appreciate that.

  • One downside of men's birth control is its hard to prove as a man that you've actually been using it, making it hard for a woman to trust that the man has actually taken it.

That being said, I think it would be great for men to have the option of taking it as well. Especially since combined forms of birth control are the most effective at preventing pregnancy. If both partners are on birth control- that's going to be more effective than if only one partner is. It could also be very useful in committed relationships where that trust does exist, and for men who don't want to risk paternity.

    • Thanks for the MHO!

  • It’s not that women suffer with birth control, it’s that women suffer the consequences more if they don’t take more responsibility for preventing conception. I’m not justifying anything or excusing men for not being more responsible.
Also would you trust a guy that told you he was on birth control? If you take control and you know you’re taking measures to prevent conception then you can be at ease. I certainly wouldn’t trust some guy who told me he was on a birth control.

  • We do. It’s a condom. You handle yiur end with a tube or a pill 💊 or something

  • It’s because there’s no safe option for men that doesn’t lead to lower fertility or sterilisation.

There are feminists who want to encourage men to get vasectomies, and they always emphasise that they’re reversible - but they’re often not. Plus the longer that a man has had the vasectomy for, the less likely it is that it can be successfully reversed.

Then there have been a bunch of male pills created and experimented with. All of them lead to lower testosterone levels, which is what causes all of the negative side effects and also kills the libido, since testosterone is what drives that.

Along with that, to remedy the low testosterone they did try injecting synthetic testosterone, but that causes problems too long term. The reason steroid use is discouraged is because it causes hypogonadism, especially when taken long term.

  • The best thing a guy can do is get a vasectomy. If you still want kids, just get clips. They can reverse it later. Getting a vasectomy was the best decision I ever made. Got it 1 month before my 3rd son was born.

  • Apparently it has too many side effects. Which is ridiculous since regular bc gives women the same side effects. It's just that men don't wanna deal with those

    • That was a feminist lie.

  • Well, I guess men could take pills containing hormones designed to make their body think they are pregnant. Why would that accomplish? I have no idea.

  • Lmao suffer? Taking a pill or getting a shot once in a while is suffering?

    • For one birth control puts weight on you.

    • Not necessarily. And that's still not suffering in my opinion

    • Birth control can cause a lot of suffering. It literally caused my mom to get cancer and almost killed her

  • It wouldn't make any difference. Bottom line is women are the ones that get pregnant and as a woman would you trust a guy who told you he was taking birth control? Women would suffer the consequences of passing the responsibility onto the guy.

    • Bullshit. Men would no longer get the "accidental" pregnancy women are so famous for doing. Also, the idea would be to never tell her you are using BC and than watch her try to trap you with another man's baby.

    • @KrakenAttackin that would actually be funny. What we need is mandatory dna testing at birth. Problem solved.

  • I would take it in a heartbeat if a stable one came on the market

  • It's easier for women to use birth control.

    • Excuses men don't have to take responsibility for anything because they can't get pregnant.

    • I don't see the problem here. You don't want to get pregnant, don't give sex. Simply use physical control instead.

  • Because women have accepted that. If you don't like something, you have to actually stand up and demand changes. Every time you don't say "no," you are saying "yes."

  • Well I think they are currently experimenting on a male birth control remedy

  • They've not been able to create a hormonal birth control for men. We have condoms.

  • We can take it, but it won't work.

  • Because the mechanism to inhibit pregnancy in a woman is much easier than the mechanism in a man. Believe me, men would fucking love some kind of birth control other than condoms or vasectomy.

    • Doubt many men would take BC if it made them gain weight, lose their sex drives and become complete bitches like it does to women

    • @Apple1996 don't you believe it.

    • Now that im thinking about it... that perfectly describes a middle age man.(fat, no sex drive, complete bitches) y'all would just end up taking the blue pill+birth control and not be giving any fucks about the side effects

  • Just wait. There’s a male birth control pill in development. It’s past time for something like this but I’m not sure how I feel about having sex with a guy and him telling me not to worry he’s on the pill. Lol

    • There was talk of a stint that would be inserted beneath his scrotal sac that would somehow kill off sperm. This would be an amazing liberation for men and would greatly reduce the "ooopsies" power of women.
