It's a combination of a lack of morals, and often laziness (in men, not wanting to work to become more of what women want, and in women, choosing fast money rather than working a conventional job). Most don't understand or acknowledge the costs - emotional and otherwise - that these choices are likely to bring them.

There's also the drug angle. Drug addicts usually can't keep a regular job, and need to make money to pay for their drugs. Male drug addicts tend to be thieves or even robbers, while women tend to hook.

There are always going to be some people who take the easy way out - easy in the moment, even if the long-term cost is high. One of the reasons that most lower-class people stay in the lower class is because they live strictly in the moment - they struggle to mentally process time, and so they can't delay gratification - such as, to save up money for something - or create a plan for the future. This makes them unable to understand and evaluate the long-term costs of their choices - they only know what they want RIGHT NOW. This is why they'll blow a great job, or commit a crime right in front of police where they'll be easily caught.

Men pay for sex if they feel like they aren't having any luck with women. But many men who pay for it are actually doing it even when they already have a wife or girlfriend, because they feel like their sex life is lacking, or their woman won't do things in bed that a hooker will. Even hookers will attest to that being a reason that many of their male customers open up to them about.

Women will sell themselves anyway, because there's always money involved. If a woman really wants money, and a woman really has no misgivings about sex trade, she is going to do it for cash. Mind you that lots of women who are not actual prostitutes have given men sex for money or resources in return. Co-workers, actresses, clean up ladies, you name it.

In a nutshell, men have far less self control. They’re way more thirsty. Women are more discriminating about sex and are rarely desperate because men can’t wait to give it freely when they decide to indulge. There is no need to ever pay. Some women don’t have a moral objection to exploiting the male lack of control and turning it into financial gain. No one is twisting their arm to pay.
