A lot of guys don't really have the awareness to pick up when a woman's body is telling him "please don't" when they're sober, so hoping they could do it drunk is probably more optimistic than realistic. Hook ups tend to be drunk/intoxicated, so you add that lack of inhibitions on to someone who already doesn't really have the social skills to navigate a situation like that. Guys like that really shouldn't even be trying to have hook ups in the first place. Most sexual consent is given non-verbally (just from a practical standpoint) so the present culture is really creating this insane expectation for people where they think they need to have expressed, verbal consent where everyone is 10,000% sure they want to have sex or somehow it's rape.

There really needs to be a more open and honest conversation about how to navigate these situations.

I honestly don't understand one-night stands or hookups these days. Because you're more likely going to find the worst kind of people that way. Why are you expecting "romance" from a compete stranger?

The men you'll more likely find will just have their way with you---THEIR way... and if you're lucky, you'll actually wake up the next morning.
