Why do old people think that the way women dress cause them to get rape?

why do old people think that the way young women dress cause them to get rape? I here this a lot and I just think that it is wrong.

There are two main types of rapists: the ones you know and who take advantage of being in a power position (older relative, boss at work, your date, etc.), and stranger rapists.

This idea about clothing choices MOSTLY applies to stranger rape. Most of these kinds of rapists are criminals more generally, and they're often also substance abusers. These people typically have NO morals and NO empathy - they are true monsters. But they still have to TARGET a victim, and interviews with convicted stranger rapists have shown that clothing (specifically clothes that look "slutty") are often a big factor in who those monsters select as their targets.

As for the rapists you know, clothing choices often isn't a factor, but once again, when substance abuse is also involved (alcohol, mostly), then revealing clothing does often come into play in the decision of the rapist to actually initiate the rape. Alcohol suppresses judgement and morals, so that makes sense.

No one is saying that clothing choices are the ONLY factor that causes rapists to target a specific woman, but it's been proven to be a factor in certain types of situations, and that shouldn't be dismissed.

Hmm well the way that dude's dressed, nothing is going to happen.. Women dress provocatively with the hope that someone they are attracted to, or give the signal that she is open to dating... and/or... she's finally 18 and wants to show the world she's not a young girl any longer,.. IE Britney Spears, or any 18yr old, goes through that stage.. It's a phase or a signal one of the two. HOWEVER, in the United States, it's not an invitation for rape, or molestation or sexual harassment or sexual battery touching. You can try to flirt and ask her out, but when she won't give you the time of day.. Take a good last look and move the f9ck on. I love looking at girls wearing almost nothing trust me.. but that's what it is, enjoying the freedom we have here in the USA.

i always thought it was riddiculus to think because a girl or women is wearing a short dress or skirt she's open game to get raped... when the answer no man has a right to rape or even touch you because of what your wearing or not wearing... whoever said a girl has a right to get touched... nobody and they shouldn't be... the trouble with society is they really believe these crazy notions.

Because in older generations the woman was often blamed for being raped…….. it was how she was dressed, she must have led him on, she must have misconstrued what happened, etc. It has no validity.

It's probably cause back in the day women didn't really dress up like today. They didn't show off a lot of cleavage or leg and wear tight or short clothes showing off there bodies. It just most old people are stubborn and set in there old ways.

It's not that people think that. Generally it's her overall attitude. We don't say that it's the way she dresses. Typically it's her overall bad choices that repeatedly put her in bad situations that might result in her being raped.

If I covered myself in raw steaks and climbed in a tiger cage you wouldn't feel bad for me if a tiger ate me.

Well, it's not that I don't feel bad for a woman who repeatedly walks down a dimly lit street with her ass hanging out of skimpy outfit late at night. That gets raped. But she certainly didn't do anything to deter the odds.

Or how bout the woman that gets drunk with a guy she just met and knows nothing about

No, we don't think the way they dress CAUSE them to get raped. But it does tilt the balance of the potential in favor of that. So let's just call it what it is. a lot of women simply don't exercise good judgment because they think it won't happen to them till it does.
