Why do some straight couples prefer anal over PIV?

Apart from the pregnancy aspect, I just don’t really understand why it might be preferable to some. I’ve tried it a couple of times, but it hurt so bad I almost threw up - and yes, we were careful and used lube. It just seems kind of... dirty as well, even if you’re “cleaned out”, so to speak.

Granted this is all just my personal experience & opinion, but I want to hear everyone else’s takes. Does it feel any different or anything like that?

For guys I have heard it's a power feeling and that anal just feels tighter than most vaginas.
For some girls anal hits just the right spot and can be very pleasurable in a different way than PIV. The boyfriend and I do anal sometimes because when I'm in the right mood it feels really good. For certain people, with the right chemistry, in good loyal marriage, everything about it just feels better. It's not for everyone, if you train yourself with fingers so its stretchy and doesn't hurt so bad you may begin to understand, or maybe not. It relates to primitivity and high I. It definitely feels different for a guy. During vaginal sex, a guy gets stimulation over the entire length of his penis. Anal is more like a tight ring sliding up and down the shaft with very little stimulation on the rest of the penis. Some guys prefer one over the other and some guys like both depending on their mood.
