Why do people condemn prostitutes but then praise porn stars?
The people that call prostitutes such harsh names, are those who have watched countless adult films and praise those who are in the porn industry.
Instead of a porn star getting rebuked with names that bring criticism and judgment (like a prostitute would), they are often considered very talented and amazing women.
The name alone, "Pornstar" or "Porn actress" clearly conveys societys perception of them.
The ability to win countless awards for their very publicized sexual acts, also expresses this.
Why are porn stars put on such a high pedestal?
When in reality, they are doing the very same act a prostitute is doing, getting money in exchange for sexual activity.
If you ask me, they ARE prostitutes.
They are better shielded behind a less ugly title.
They are more socially accepted in this world, while the other one isn't.
Main Misconception(s)
"All prostitutes are forced into sexual activities or have pimps"
We cannot group all prostitutes as one.
Although this may be the case for some women (forced into sex trafficing), there are many prostitutes who are independent and do not have a pimp.
They find clients by themselves by posting ads or taking clients through their own website.
By acknowledging the similarities, we must also acknowledge some of the differences.
- In Porn, the pimp is production. (none the less)
- Both the male and woman get paid for engaging in sex together.
- Prostitution is illegal in most states, while porn is not.
- Pornstars pay taxes.
When you take out these uncommon factors, the common denominator remains the same.
Pornstars are prostitutes.
(By definiton, those that get paid in exchange for sexual activities)
So, if you're okay with pleasuring yourself while your television screen displays images of people engaging in such acts,
do not harshly frown upon someone who does the very same act (but is perceived by society in a very different manner).

What Girls & Guys Said
15 25It's quite simple: Society is enamored with Show Biz, Modeling, and the people who work for it. Pornography falls into the showbiz/modeing spectrum, prostitution does not. I've experienced this sort of thing myself, not as a model or porn star lol, but as a security official. I used to be a security guard for the filming of Grimm and a some other big office movies, and I was also a security guard at a community college later on. When I told people who I worked for the filming of Reese Witherspoon's movie, they'd be all like "Whoa that's awesome!" Even thought the work was prestigeous and interesting, it was a pain in the ass and I'd be lucky to watch any of the filming take place. When I worked security at the community college, I didn't get nearly the praise as I did when I worked alongside show business. I agree that with you that neither profession should be valued above the other, but society will never think so.
I certainly do NOT put porn stars on a high pedestal.
I dislike prostitutes. They're addicted, to easy money. (and often to drugs too).
Hmm... do we put porn stars on a pedestal?
They are entertainment, arousing, and usually beautiful.
Does that mean we actually think well of them?
Perhaps when we think of porn stars, we think of the entertainment aspect--most of us neither think we could nor do we want to have sex with a porn star. So we don't think of the diseases and such.
Prostitutes have no entertainment value... you're either having sex or not. So we by nature think of the gross diseases and crud living conditions, and maybe human trafficking.
Though before we feel too sorry for either group... keep in mind that people chose their own profession, aside from the percent of prostitution that's human trafficking, which is the job of state/city police, sheriffs departments, and the FBI to put a stop to.
Why do we choose to condemn any one?
No one has that right
Whoever said we put pornstars on a high pedestal?
If you don't , then this isn't applying to you but more so my observation with society in their views.
People make it their business to not know enough and yet express supposedly valid views. Happens in every aspect of life, it's how it is. It's also easy to get judgmental when you hear the words "occupation" and "pornstar" in the same sentence in correct order. Some girls perceive this as an "easy" alternative to the "usual-boring-9-to-5-day-to-day" bullshit - in that sense: they reap what they sow. There are also other reasons for joining up with porn - be it financial crisis or forced at gunpoint, what ever. At the end of the, none of these people are to be held on a high pedestal. They don't contribute to society in any helpful way, except for the 30 minutes of inner peace you get after you come.
Porn is full of bullshit and caues erectile dysfunction and i am not interested in prostitutes. I can't answer. Lol
Porn starts are what they are "porn stars" prostitutes are the regular plain-jane chics who are looking to make ends meet and put 4 squares and a roof.
You sound like you discriminate based on in come. If it's an apple... it's an apple no matter what color.
no I sound like a person who calls it what it is. Porn stars are what they are, porn stars, they are those who start off as a pros. who aren't happy in making chump change, and go off and run off to hollywood or whatever and become porn stars. Im not taking sides or whatever, its just how you view things
Actually, porn stars look like regular women to me, but with breast and butt implants. A little false eyelashes and lots of contouring make up. Labiaplasties to make a 'pretty' and tighter looking vagina. Google "Porn stars without make up". I can tell you I've seen far better looking prostitutes than porn stars.
True...
I don't like either so I'm good. Maybe prostitutes are better because a lot are forced into it.
First I would say you put a very good issue.
Difference is in their living style.
Porn stars live among high society, so the lover one are not to speak
Your comparison is that of Apples and Oranges, Porn stars get payed for acting in FILMS, are films illegal? you see many films everyday and therefore the aspect of the filming normalises porn and makes it socially acceptable, those women are not hiding their bodies like prostitutes do, they show them.
Prostitutes secretly exchange sexual services which is totally different. Sex is a very controversial topic and these women are using it for their benefit in a sneaky manner which will NEVER become acceptable unless humans turn into animals and we start banging each other on streets in public. They deserve everything they get.
Clearly you know nothing about this topic. Besides the fact that one is filmed and the other one isn't , they are both having sex for money which is prostitution. what you are listing are minor differences. All in all the end goal is the sex in exchange for cash. If you properly read my article you would have seen I already listed the differences. also, how would you know a prostitute is using their work "for their benefit in a sneaky manner". This makes no sense. It seems like a huge assumption.
@Take Owner You are being ignorant and not thinking outside of the box. I have explained to you why Porn is accepted in the society and why Prostitution is not, what minor differences? Your take has absolutely nothing to do with what i wrote. You are not pointing out the MAIN reasons why each people think the way you say. I said in a sneaky manner because they are doing it behind the doors without any restrains. They do everything they get told to for some cash that no one can be part of. With your logic we can also say that having sex in public is also normal. The filming part is very important because people are used to watching films, so it's not classed as prostitution. It's a FILM ffs.
that made no sense dude and I read what you said like 30 times
@blondfrog It's not my fault your comprehension skills aren't good.
You cannot have a mature discussion without insulting someone? This is the person whose knowledgeable words I should take into account? I will have a mature discussion and not resort to child-like blows by insulting or attempting to belittle you as a person. The only argument you have is that one is filmed while the other one isn't. And that one is viewable (on film), while the other one is in privacy. If you've read my article, I have already established the fact that one is illegal and one isn't. However, you are sliding over the fact that they BOTH have sex for money, which is called prostitution. You can paint it however you want, but that doesn't change that common denominator.
@Take Owner Where am i insulting you? are you sure you don't need to put on your glasses? what i am trying to say is that you are not looking at WHY they are the way they are, there is reason why one is looked down on and the other is not. Well, both are looked down upon by people but Prostitution will always be seen as more "taboo" because as i said before people DO NOT view Porn as exchanging sexual services for money because they think they are getting money for doing A FILM. Prostitutes have nothing to cover their actions unlike Pornstars do and therefore get all the hate.
@Mrdetermined You're calling me ignorant. Which means someone who has a lack of education. Didn't know that was a compliment. I understand why people look at BOTH the way they do. But did you ever think that the whole purpose of my article is the enlighten people and show that there are many similarities (they really aren't that different). That they BOTH shouldn't be looked at as very different when in actuality they are very similar.
@Take Owner The similarities are very overlooked and minor tough. i myself think that Porn is different to Prostitution because they both consist of many different things that have to be taken into account when deciding if they are the same or not. Prostitutes sleep with amateurs using natural methods, they are doing it just like any other people do and have no authority while they take money for it. They are selling themselves independently with no Professionalism. Pornstars are usually trained and PAY TAXES because Porn IS an actual profession.
We will not see eye to eye on this (and that is okay). I can see the points you are trying to make but like I said (the common denominator remains the same). What this young lady Alexa Cruz described as a porn star is what prostitutes do on a regular basis. Have sex with numerous amounts of men in a day in exchange for money. The only difference is her choices will follow her for life because they were filmed. Here's an analogy (made up but realistic). I'm a singer. I'm not signed to a major record label. I am my own producer and do my own recordings. I have an audience and make a fair amount of money doing so. I am not Beyoncé, I do not have the same fortune, same amount of money, advertisement/producers. Because I am not signed to a major record label, I am not listed as a professional singer but moreso an amateur (although I've seen doing this for years). Although me and Beyoncé are very different, the common ground that we share is that we are BOTH singers despite the...
marketing difference.
And the label society wants to give us.
Porn and Prostitution might consist of the same actions but again, there are the reasons why they are looked at as they are so i see it's right the way it is.
So you agree with porn but not so much with prostitution?
because society is fucked up..
i think we're more open about sex, but then we still reckokn prostitution is sick, or "sad" (when many married/"normal" men pay for it..)
people are ignorant, many people still reckon the Victorian norms are best.
It's hypocrisy. With the porn, you can watch them in the privacy of your own house all while not really caring who the porn actors/actresses are or about the money they make... just as long as they're good enough to help u get off. Plus their makeup artist make them look "appealing" .
We scprn prostitutes because we see the money and drugs given to them. Plus they look horrible, not caring how lifeless they look.
Not all prostitutes are drug addicts. Some are regular college girls trying to pay their tuition. Or even young women that have children that are just finding to feed/cloth them.
But yes, I agree this is hypocrisy.
The prostitutes around here are drug traffickers, so i was speaking from observation of what I've seen here throughout the years. :)
Sex trafficking is a separate issue which I am not speaking about in this take. I am only speaking about independent prostitutes and porn stars. Those that are being forced into sexual activity makes a whole different take and cannot be compared to someone who does it willingly. Also, the prostitution rate is high where I live, so I get where u are coming from.
Sex trafficking and drug trafficking prostitutes are one and the same.
What? Where are u getting your information from? So you're saying there's no such thing as independent prostitutes only those being trafficked?
Please clear this up, I want to understand what u r saying
Who's putting pornstars on pedestals? They're all the same to me as well as strippers & your everyday sluts and this applies for both genders :)
May be because prostitudes do it for money and pot stars do it because they love it.
How would you know these individuals reasoning behind doing it? That's just an assumption.
Yeah, may be it is just my assumption but why it is not true can you explain it
Anytime you generalize or assume a party does something for a certain reason , then it holds inaccuracy. Why? Because there's always room for those to have different reasons other than what you stated. On both ends, (porn stars and prostitutes MAY be doing it because they love sex/lifestyle). Also, on both ends money makes a huge difference. If they weren't getting paid to do it , let's see how big the industry would be or how much people would still be getting arrested for prostitution. The fact of the matter is that, both can have the same reasons for wanting to do it. You can't just state that because someone is a prostitute they don't like what they do. They very well can ! On the contrary , if you saw the interviews those porn stars were taken advantage of in the industry. The acting "like they liked it", was only a front to sell their films but not their reality.
If they are getting arrested means they are criminals and illegal. or not having any licence to do it.
Yes... I already established that difference. I feel one shouldn't be more accepted than the other. When you strip down the layers they are all still sex workers.
You arwe saying that I am generalizing for telling that they do for money but you are saying that they may love it to do is that is not generalizing then why you doing that
But porn is for sexual education but prostatitis are not like that
Anytime you make an implication that "all" people do things for a certain reason, that is generalizing. My argument with you is that there are different reasons for wanting to do it. You can't solely assume all porn stars love their job and prostitutes don't.
I already said that it is education I think you got the answer
Only guys who are universally physically unattractive to women have to watch porn or get a hooker.
I don't think we put porn stars on pedestals. Most people look down on them.
Ahhem, (clears throat) loop holes.
I always thought porn stars werr just as nasty as prostitutes that is why I don't watch porn. I'm not into nasty girls.
