Why do you think people do open relationships?

Open will mean different things for different people. I know couples who only do activities with others all together, with group consent and clear boundaries. I know others who have a primary partner they always return to, and who are allowed to partner freely as long as they don't tell their primary partner. Others quite the same, but they must tell their primary.

Not everyone is monogamous. And not everyone non-monogamous is polyamorous.

People love in different ways, and healthy and mature people find ways to communicate and have respectful relationships.

For some misguided folks, "open" means "I want to cheat". But for most healthy folks with normal communication skills, it means whatever they and their partner (s) decide.

I think because they don't love the person they are with.. they couldn't possibly love them.. they do it because they settled for the person because they are either scared to be alone or they found someone that they like to have around.. They will stay with them until they actually find the "one"... which might never happen and they will be stuck together forever.. No two people truly in love with one another would ever want to share their partner.. that is not a real thing..

It's not cheating if it's an open relationship though. Some people just prefer that kind of relationship because they like to have variety when it comes to partners especially sexually. People are free to decide what kind of relationship they want if both consent to it.

That's what you're doing though by saying it's cheating. In an open relationship it's not considered infidelity because it's agreed to that it's allowed to sleep with other people.

Cheating on people with permission, usually comes with a lot of restrictions they have to use a condom with other people the other person's secondary and that comes with a closed group a true open relationship has no restrictions but the reality is most of them have some type of restrictions.
