Me So Horny may have gotten the most press, but it was definitely not 2 Live Crew's most controversial song. Arguably, that would have been their first big hit: Hey, We Want Some Pussy.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/3RJNhuBV_nE2 Live Crew were a group of guys from the Miami area, specifically the ghetto projects in Liberty City. They were obviously as low class as it gets, and unapologetically so, but they grew up in an environment without morals, and their filthy songs weren't especially controversial in their neighborhood - but it was shocking to the middle class. There's also the thing that gets overlooked: their songs and lyrics were written with a sense of humor, and they lifted a lot of their samples from black comedy albums from the 1970s (before HBO specials existed, comedy was often recorded and sold on vinyl records in the 60s and 70s). The point is, they weren't taking any of it too seriously - this was ghetto party music, set to Miami Bass, and, yeah, it was filthy, but most ghetto humor is.
One of the funniest moments in my life was being a high school senior, in the marching band, coming back from a school football game where we'd performed during half-time, on a bus with the band (including flag girls, colorguard girls, etc.) and the cheerleaders, and the GIRLS spontaneously started singing this song. Every girl, even the freshman girls, knew every word and sang it loud and proud, and the guys were laughing so hard we were crying.
For those if you who don't know the words, you just can't appreciate how funny it was to have 40-50 teen girls LOUDLY and enthusiastically singing/rapping the lyrics to this song in a school bus driving down the road...
I still have all of my original vinyl - the 12" singles and the full album. I couldn't play this song at school dances, but I always played Get It Girl, which was a better dance song anyway.

Thanks for Mho :)
Awelcome
Probably because the performers were controversial from the get-go?
https://www.youtube.com/embed/Bud743iJMsQPerhaps because they criticize society or they're about topics that most people don't want to talk about.
