Why does he only look into my eyes during sex?

So me and this guy I used to work with decided to be friends with benefits after my long term boyfriend and I had broken up. We have only slept together twice... And both times we've been doing cowgirl, he just stays put (doesn't thrust, sits back and relaxes, basically) and looks into my eyes. I know he's had other partners, I'm his 5th...
