Why does my cat tend to lay on me?

I'm not sure if it's a comfort or dominant thing..

Every time I tend to lay down in bed, my cat will plop herself on me. Dig her head in my neck where I feel her wet nose on me. She will stay still for some time. She tends to purr.

Dominance thing or is it just showing love?

She is comforting up against you and she purrs she's showing her form of love and that is a good thing, I had this cat name Chrissy and she would be compulsive with sitting on my lap and finally, we had to find a home for her but she was beautiful, her markings were unique, My heart goes out to cats cause they are so left behind and people don't feed them where I live, so my cousin feeds the stray cats and my cousin just had her 22-year-old cat put down due to old age on April 28, 2020, so Cotton lived a good life she snow white in color but cats have their own mind made up and some are affectionate while others don't like bothered

It's for attention, comfort, and warmth (small animals tend to be attracted to warmth). And it's more common for animals that were taken from their mothers too early.

I don't think it's a dominance thing.
Cats like to be near us. It's bonding, and a way to communicate closeness with us.
They know that they will get attention, and petting reminds them of their mother cleaning them when they were kittens.
They like the physical warmth.
It makes them feel secure.
They like to leave their scent on things.
They like compact spaces to curl up in.
The extra soft spot offers a better surface than hard, unyielding spots. Also, a change in texture may please them.

Two reasons, there body doesn't retain  heat the way the human body does. Yes, even with that thick coat of hair. So they love body heat and the other could be  affection for you.
