Think back to pre birth control years. If you have sex with a virgin and she gets pregnant it's most likely gonna be your kid. Think about the number of guys that ended up raising other guys kids. Spending all their hard earned cash and time on a kid that has ZERO ties to you and was born from a your lovers lying behavior. Personally I'd still love the kid like its my own but I'd hate his mom cause she tricked the hell out of me. So virginity is a slightly more trustworthy sign that hey this kids probably. Take these same rock throwing, world is flat, if it's broken then beat it type thinkers and eventually virginity transforms from "no I'm pretty sure it's mine she was a virgin when I married her" to "you sinful harlot how dare you insult the gods" cause we usually run through all the shitty ideas before getting things right. Since virginty is something that happens in all cultures it popped up in religions, philosophies and laws all across the globe. After many years we no longer really know why virginity is such a big deal but we go in this cycle of well all the older people said it was and they're the best source of info I got. The idea of sacred virginty gets passed from generation to generation. And now instead of virginity meaning she probably hasn't f'ed anyone else it gets refined and dolled up to mean innocence. Innocence is just more poetic. In comes printed word and poetry and whats fun and popular usually overtakes truth. Now that the whole threat of pregnancy is severally reduced people are starting to pay more attention and question why virginity was so important and we're not really getting a good answer because other than how it relates to pregnancy it's pretty unimportant.

Because that's what it means. The idea of virginity was developed at a time when

1) premarital sex was highly taboo.
2) the word "virgin" explicitly referred to sexually inexperienced girls, not both sexes (male virginity is a relatively modern invention).
3) women were not typically instructed about "marital duties" until shortly before their weddings.

Children are innocent. Pretty much every little kid is a virgin.

A virgin is seen as innocent, because people who have been virgins for some time often are people who wait for someone special and are more serious about relationships. Everyone can have sex if they are desperate enough, but it takes guts to actuallly wait.

Sex is kind of a sign of growing up too, since by having sex you can end up pregnant so by doing that you have to be mature and careful. You have to know what to get into because it can risk pregnancy or other sexually transmitted diseases which can change your life forever.

I'm not a virgin, but i have deeply respect for people who are. It's rare for people 18+ to be virgins, i like that they actually wait and doesn't jump at anyone. My first time was horrible, too fast and unromantic, i really wish i waited lol.

Maybe because the shit people like to do in sex that is disgusting makes you look disgusting so being a virgin your more pure then the person who got fuck in the ass, had 5 dicks in their mouth, had threeway. People think that virgins are innocent because people tend to have lost their virginity by adulthood. Innocence is associated with childhood, thus people who have not lost their virginity could be seen as part child.

Virginity is a weapon created by society to prevent people from rebelling. In truth, it doesn't equate to innocence, just like not being a virgin doesn't equal corruption.

It's about being naive or inexperienced in the act. It would stem from the idea of purity. Society in the past put quite a bit of emphasis on virgin and purity as not been touched by another man. So she would be innocent because she is pure.
