Why it's okay to be a Slut

Why is being a slut such a bad thing? I mean seriously this is isn't the 1950s anymore, these slut shamers need to grow up and stop being so immature and sexist and realize that women want sex just as much as men, so stop being such fake Victorian prudes.

Why it's okay to be a Slut

When a guy sleeps around he's a stud but when a woman does it she's a whore. Talk about double standards.

And why is slut even a word? I don't see any words that specifically defines a man having many casual sex partners yet a woman does. This is the purest form of sexism. The fact that this word is even in the dictionary is revolting.

Society has created this twisted image of approval to abide by, when there's no apparent reason to. Yes you can get pregnant or get an STD but you can also do both of those without being a "slut." This debate about promiscuity is about judging and shaming people, thinking that you know what’s best for them better than themselves. Well, sluts don’t need your disapproval or advice on how we should live our lives. We’re quite capable of making our own, terrible drunken decisions. What I can't however deal with, though, is your disapproval. I don’t know why, but for some reason people just love to cram their beliefs down your throat.

Why it's okay to be a Slut

I like getting compliments and attention from guys, I like being desired and I like having sex. And to shame someone for doing something that comes naturally is just beyond absurd.
So what if a woman has sex with more than one man or likes taking it up the back door. It's their life, they can do whatever they want with it, and that does not make them a whore. Heck a woman can have sex with a hundred men at once and you still shouldn't judge them. Unless that woman is genuinely a bad human being, you have no right to judge her as a person. Yes you're entitled to your opinions but that doesn't mean you have the right to flaunt it around.

Yes being promiscuous can result in you getting hurt, you can get STDs or become pregnant or worse, but there are preventative measures you can take like using condoms every time and getting on the pill. If you take proper precautions you'll be just fine, there is however always a slight chance of getting pregnant or catching a STD but you probably have a higher chance of dying in a car accident than getting either of those. It's like saying you shouldn't get on a roller coaster because it could derail and get you hurt or killed but that doesn't mean you should stop having fun just because there's a less than 1% chance of it happening.

Why it's okay to be a Slut

The word slut has been taken out of context so badly that it's used everywhere without people even being aware of the meaning. A woman dressed provocatively in public? She must be a slut right. A girl who flirts with all the guys in school? Oh she's definitely a slut. A girl who posts half-naked selfies? Oh man she must be a whore. I mean seriously what does clothing have to with being a slut or flirting or taking selfies. People are so conceited that they resort to calling women sluts (a word that obviously has a negative connotation attached to it) so they could shame them just because their still stuck with views from the 60s.

  • Slut means promiscuous women, society shames those women because you can't get very far with them. If you want a child, as a men and you want to be involved in raising it then you need someone willing to carry your child. With a slut you never know that its your child or someone else.

So that is the reason for shaming, they are low quality individuals that only seek instant sexual gratification, instead of investing their emotions into a meaningful relation. Its like alcohol dependent people, they are of lesser use to society because their brain is off most of the time, so they can't bring value.

Just because some guys do it, it doesn't mean that being a slut its a good thing, and even if they are not publicly shamed, people lose respect for them.

But I agree that naming someone sluts based on clothing is really wrong, but who listens to those people, they seem like not having anything meaningful to say.

    • To be fair, my aunt said that about my one Filipina ex. I saw nothing wrong with that same gal's choices of clothing, especially since she lived in perpetual 90-degree weather. But my aunt thought the gal was a slut. And a few months later, I was cheated on. Go figure.

  • To be quite honest, I don't care what a girl does. She's her own person, I was raised to know that very well. You do what you want, I'll do what I want, we all do what we want, and call it a day. I agree with you and that people should shut the hell up and stop slut shaming females and praising guys. Either you slut shame both, praise both, or mind business that never did, does, or ever will concern you.

    • and i think we should all mind business that never did, does, or ever will concern us. agreed

  • I label men and women the same, how I base my labels is based of the motivation.
whore - doing it for money
slut - doing it for attention
horny - doing it for sex
... and someone cheating is cheating. So I see horny sluts a lot.. horny cheating sluts too. both male and female. (And yes dudes do it for attention too... you know, those dudes that hi-five about it and brag behind the girl's back to his buddies... it's attention seeking just like a girl that tries to trade sex for it.) Attention seeking is just attention seeking of any kind by use of sex.

This is just how I categorize and organize people in general by the motivations behind an offered act. But my labels generally stay to myself unless I explain what I imply by my subjective use of the word. Although... lately I use the term "attention whore" rather than slut... meaning they whore themselves out for something... just not money.

That's just me... words are words... subjective use of them, like my use of them as labels for categorization, depends on the user's intent with their use. Calling people names to hurt... very childish. That's just my take on it.

  • Interesting read. I don't have an issue with promiscuous women, but 2 things I disagree with in your post.
    1. As an average, men want sex more than women

    2. It's not a true double standard between men and women. It is difficult for a man to be considered a stud; less so than a women to gain the same reputation

    • "As an average, men want sex more than women" I agree. "It's not a true double standard between men and women. It is difficult for a man to be considered a stud; less so than a women to gain the same reputation" How is it not a double standard? How many men get called man-whores compared to women getting called sluts? How many people in schools and colleges even use the word man-whore?

    • To be a stud, a man has to be suave, confident, charismatic, and pleasent looking (varies person to person) before he gets the girl. For a woman to score a guy, she needs to be interested. As you said in your post, you enjoy the attention from guys (who wouldn't? It's a boost to confidence) but it is a very passive way to find potential mates when compared to men's. You personally may chase men, but both history and human behaviour shows that women prefer to be chased more so than men. Because of this, I say it's harder for a man to be a stud than a woman to be slut

  • In the sexual marketplace, 10-20% of the men have 80% of the options, whereas 80% of women have 99% of options. In other words, the average woman has more choice, variety, and availability than the average man. The average number of sexual partner for men 22-45 is 6.1. In this day and age, I would be surprised to meet a woman with less than 15. It's easy for a woman to be a slut. A master key that opens all the locks is not the same quality as a lock that opens to every key.

    • I think it's easy for both to be sluts.

    • Women don't have to try that's why they just get approached.

    • @Joc4Position just declaring something doesn't make it true. i have study after study to back up my claims. you have emotions, just like other simps and white knights and p-beggars looking for approval from mommy.

  • Promiscuity is destructive, to soul and mind and body. Always has been, always will be. That being said, I agree that using the words to condemn the activity with out of context, or taking the punishment of another for promiscuity too far, is also wrong.

I address the issue several times in the Gerosha Chronicles. Alison Ligash is rebuked for it, but the consequences speak for themselves. However, Tobey doesn't go overboard. And neither does Alison's family. They take perhaps the most balanced approach.

I also show the unbalanced approaches, and why none of them are healthy. Erin shames Marina to the extreme, and this causes Miriam to rebel. Imaki suspects Candi is unable to save herself for marriage, but tries to pretend the problem doesn't exist. Had Candi not slept with Donte the night after they were reunited, she would have gotten bored and curious and discovered something in the bunker that could have made her journey to Texas a lot shorter. So all the gals pay for their misdeeds one way or another.

Don't think the men have carte blanche and can do whatever they want though. Donte is issued a warning by SCALLOP to not mess around with Candi again until she turns 18. Danny gets called an idiot by both his older brother and his mom, while his dad ignores the issue. He's forced to break up with her, which devastates him. Matt has to marry Marina. Phil gets killed in a car crash trying to run away with Miriam.

Steve grows jealous when Alison chooses Tobey, and goes insane and tries to have them assassinated. Then he himself dies of cancer in prison. Dwayne goes from promiscuous to a full-blown rapist. And then, a disease gets named after him. (And decades later, Eqquibus tries to weaponize it against his political enemies.)

Hea inherits THE Scarlet Letter (it turns out to be a magic necklace pendant.). Her boyfriend is murdered by a demonic pegasus. She violated her mother's trust, and gets kicked out of the house. Being a slut is NEVER okay. But it's not the worst thing someone can do.

    • I forgot the three worst cases: Black Rat, Jackrabbit, and Stung Hornet. Until falling in love with Mingmei, Shing began to fear that he'd never know what love truly was. He'd screwed until there was almost nothing left to his soul. Sex was easy. Love was impossible. He viewed that as a cosmic punishment. And to an extent, he was right. He didn't expect mercy, but got it. Mingmei was recruited as a honey pot by the Chinese government. She wanted love, not sex. They just wanted to make her the Chinese Black Widow. She naturally had enemies all over the world wanting her dead. No need for slut-shaming She already knew what she deserved. Jack had it easy, until he wanted true love. Then, he was treated like a predator. Miranda saved him from that fate. Which is why when she is kidnapped by Don the Psycho, his rescue efforts are also fueled by a revenge motive. Always a price to pay.

  • It doesn't matter if you are a man or woman, if I somehow found out you (man) like to sleep around a lot, I will not judge you. But I will not want to be with you.

  • Its not okay to be a slut it has always been like that and willalways be , a woman who sleeps around with anyone is a Slut , the fact that a guy does it too is not good too but it makes a woman slut , clothes too affect the way a girl looks , a respectful intelectual woman doesn't dress like a slut and thats the difference so the Slut girls do exist its just reality u have to accept it and not try to convince others that its not that bad to be a slut cuz society will alwats see it as a bad thing.

    • I agree 100%. It's crazy to me that people try to convince others that accepting reckless behavior is progression. A slut is a slut is a slut. I've known girls in the past who slept with every man and woman and have no issue with being called a slut - they like it, but at least they weren't in denial about it and that's what takes the power out of the word slut. You OWN it.

    • @Killer-Queen right They try to convince us that those bad things r okay since we r in 2015 they just try to miss up with this world

  • Girls like you are the reason why we are fucked and I am staying single for A LONG time. Every where I look I see sluts and you're just adding to it. A good amount of us guys don't look up to a guy that has sex with every girl he can.

    • by the way ever heard of drew sing appropriately? If a girl walked in for a job interview wearing hooker clothes I would never hire her. It's inappropriate apparel. I wouldn't hire a half naked guy either. It sounds like you're butthurt and you want to walk around wearing "slutty" clothing and suck as many dicks as possible. This is what happens when feminism goes too far.

    • Dressing*

  • Why do people have to rant about stuff like this? I've never heard anyone say not having sex makes you a prude. And tbh who the hell even cares? Why do people have to be so sensitive that if they get called a slut or a prude it ruins their life? Grow up and get over yourself. Jeez. Nowadays people will use anything just to whine.

  • A key that opens many locks is a master key. A lock that opens to any key, it worthless.

    • Hot damn. Game. Set. Match.

    • thatd be a real good saying, except we're not fucking objects we're people so... it doesn't apply

  • I dont think slut is a bad word really, although for the male counter part I always called them man-whores. I dont think really highly of either though, people who sleep around a lot I mean, but again that goes for both genders. Never thought of a guy as a stud or whatever if he sleeps with a lot of women, but people are different with different needs, so I of course dont hate these people or anything, dont mind them at all really. Just in a relationship sense it would most likely not be my type, since im straight that applies to women, but I never called a girl a slut or looked down on her if she sleeps with a lot of people, but her values or morals dosent match mine, which is as simple and easy as that really.

And about what you wrote at the end, guys usally get called players for this behavior and yeah girls get called sluts, so is not like just one gender who gets the sterotype labels or what to call it regarding that. Regardless, people can live their life however they want, is nobodys buisness unless you hurt others really. Whatever works for people.

  • I like your "mytake"! Totally onboard with all that shit except where you say women want sex as much as men. SOME women want sex as much as men. Then SOME others want sex as much as a man - ON CERTAIN OCCASIONS. While others will never want sex as much a man does.

But erry'thin else... YOU GO GIRL!

  • Male equivalent of a slut called womanizer, woman can do what she want but her image will be different accordingly to her decisions and actions, it's just natural. Women can't eat the cake and have it too.

  • In my world the word slut means anybody who fucks people solely for carnal reasons w/o any emotional connection.

I would appreciate it if you stop telling me how I define things.

Slut shaming is a good thing.

  • It's okay because being a slut is just a man-made construct. It doesn't actually matter.

    • A man shall leave his father and mother, and be united to his WIFE. NOT girlfriend, NOT girl-of-the-week, not his F*-buddy, not himself, not his live-in domestic partner, not Fido, not Steve, not the neighbor's picnic table, etc. There is 0% anything there that is a "man-made construct." So you're wrong. A woman that cheapens her own sexuality disgraces the husband she may never have. And even if you convince everyone around her to not care what she's done, there will still be a price for her to pay. Possibly an even worse, unforeseen-yet-logical one. Not all promiscuous women do it because they crave sex. Most do it out of a desire to rebel. And that carries its own dangers.

    • @ObscuredBeyond how does anything you said make it not a man-made construct.

    • Society wants women to behave in certain way for such and such reasons, however the take owner wants to do things that are not necessary approved by society and still be accepted by it, you can't have it all. The take is wrong until we see how we can address the underlying cause for the slut shaming.

  • It is your body indeed and you can do what you want. But people can also think what they want. You don't want to be controlled by society? Well you also can't change society. It will react the way it wants to to the choice you make for your body. It will judge, and there's nothing you can do with it. Of you want to dress slutty, then be brave and brave your self for judgements.

Because really, as a part of society i think there are appropriate places to show...% amount of skin, and on other places, only...% of skin showing is acceptable.

  • More like, why it's not ok to be a slut

  • Well, things have improved with regard to women's sexuality over the years. So it isn't all bad. There's always going to be SOMETHING about a person that others won't like. Sometimes it's race, religion, gender, orientation, looks, etc. I suppose in your case, it's your sexuality. Great thing is that others will appreciate that about you. I just think it's... difficult to have everyone become open-minded over night when we can't even get basic things like racism out of the way. Focus on your own happiness and try not to pay too much attention to people who don't agree with your lifestyle. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, regardless of how that might make you feel.

    • I know but the thing is feminism has been around a long time so the fact slut is being used as a derogatory term against us goes to show how much power society has over women, how much it loves to hold us back. Anti Homophobia and racism is only a recent movement and actually deals with real issues. The fact is after all these years of fighting for equality we still couldn't get rid of the simple notion of women being promiscuous is bad. This only goes to show how much society is biased against us.

    • I think being a slut in these times is not a problem, nobody will throw rocks at you at least not in the western world. So nobody is holding women back from having sex with as many sexual partners as possible, just society doesn't put too much value on this individuals, they will have hard time to find someone will to build a family with them.

    • @openwide That last statement isn't true at all. There are plenty of guys who date known strippers, prostitutes, etc.
