Women get blue balls too!

Except they're not called "blue balls". As a woman who's experienced them, I find it annoying when men complain about it all the time and try to blame women for giving it to them.

The technical term for it is "vasocongestion" in both men and women. It's when your body tissues or organs (including but not limited to the genitals) swell up due to the increased blood flow to the area. It's usually temporary and harmless, and subsides as soon as the blood flow returns to normal. It could be painful if the blood gets trapped in the area for too long though. The blood vessels dilate, keeping the oxygen away from it and giving the blood a blue texture. This is also one of the causes of menstrual cramps.

Fun fact: Blushing is caused due to vasocongestion of the cheeks.

Women get blue balls too!

"Blue balls" is the term used when this happens to the testicles and it's usually accompanied by testicular pain. In both men and women, blood rushes down to the to the genitals when you're aroused and then gets released after you have an orgasm. Being aroused for too long without an orgasm can cause pain in the around the area.

Time to debunk some myths that people believe about it.

  • Myth: Blue balls is a myth.

It's real and has been aknowledged by doctors

  • Myth: It's a medical condition.

It's usually temporary and should go away after a few hours. It's also not harmful in any way. I've heard people say that you could die from it. That's just ridiculuous.

  • Myth: The only way to get rid of it is to get laid.

Ladies, don't let a man ever use this excuse to guilt you into sleeping with him. He could just take care of it on his own. The quickest solution is to masturbate, but it should eventually go away with time.

  • Myth: It's just a tigly sensation that feels uncomfortable.

It can be quite painful and you can usually feel it in your lower abdomen too.

  • Myth: It could happen if you've been teased for a few minutes.

It only happens if you've been aroused for an hour or longer and haven't experienced an orgasm.

    And finally,

  • Myth: It only happens to men.

Just because women don't have a common slang term for it, it doesn't mean that it doesn't happen to them. Vasocongestion of the genitals can happen to both men and women since our genitals get engorged with blood too when we're aroused. Staying aroused for too long without a release can cause pain down there. For me they felt a lot like menstrual cramps, but less intense.

Women get blue balls too!

The reason I wrote this myTake is because most people don't understand the term completely. I know a lot of people who believe that it's a myth. While it's true that a lot of men fake it so it would benifit them, it does really happen. They can usually take care of it themselves though, and no one should feel guilty for not having sex with someone they don't want to. It's also annoying when men act like it only happens to them, because I've experienced it too.

  • For some reason that first picture is strangely arousing.

  • I smell feminism in this MyTake.

    • This is in no way related to feminism. I hardly even talked about gender in this take.

  • thats messed up

    • Lol it is... Thank you so much biology!

  • Thanks for clearing that up. I was blackmailed over "blue balls" it worked for him too..

  • The title frightened me

  • Omg Now I know what happened to me :p , two years back I was sexting with this guy and I had these cramps sort of stuff, it felt like my V muscles mere contracting, not continuously but in a series and it was painful but also mixed with pleasure. I have had it with 2 other guys too.. not that bad mild ones but still. All these years I thought what had happened to me and it turns out I had blue balls. LOL. Thank you Take Owner this is a revelation! :D

    • No problem :) It's worse for some people than it it for others. It's happened to me twice. First time was not so bad. Second time was terrible.

  • So thats the shocking pain I feel in my abdominal region... at times...

    • Possibly. Depends on what caused it.

    • Yeah. It happens durring foreplay, and when it's been a while. I must say though, wonderful mytake. It is truly interesting.

    • That was probably it then... And thanks for your feedback :)

  • No one ever said women do not get sexual urges. I'm not sure why men don't know this. Some men think we are all the same

    • This take is not about the sexual urges. I was explaining the pain some people feel down there when they don't get off. I agree with you though. A lot of men do think we don't have sex drives.

    • If a man doesn't think a women has a strong sex drive then he's just not very experienced.

  • I'm so glad FINALLY someone pointed this out! Because I get it all the freaken time!

  • This is an awesome take :) Informative and understanding; gratz ^_^
I am still v... because I wanted to be like that even if I am a very sensitive person. I met with blueballs long years ago;and sometimes I still get it unfortunately. When i got it as a first time, I remember something weird about me;I was very tense at that day! I got some arousals without any reason. After school I came home and after 15 minutes I noticed I couldn't sit properly. My mom asked why can't u sit? I said I don't know, I just feel a very harsh pain and can't sit or even walk lol it sounds funny I know. I said to my parents, it is okay and i will be fine in some minutes but it didn't go away;the last thing I remember about that day; I was screaming and I found myself in emergency. My parents brought me there when they saw me in pains. Doctor said it is a harsh version of blueballs and I must take care of myself lol... Imagine how ashameful is that hearing doctor's advices near my parents :))))))) I never be ahy in my life like that day :D He said I am lucky to have this body;but it will be so hard till I marry lol... When i read your myTake, I wanted to write these :) There r lots of kinds of blueballs and it is a fact even if mostly people think it is a myth...

    • Well I hope it didn't happen again. :) Yeah a lot of people do think it's a myth. It usually gets more painful the longer you're aroused.

    • Unfortunately I have it regularly. Story ends in emergency. I am a sensitive guy;I always get arousals from simple things and then generally don't masturbate and get pains... thank you :)

    • You should take care of that then. Why go through that for no reason? Unless you're around people or something.

  • Actually...

"It only happens if you've been aroused for an hour or longer and haven't experienced an orgasm."

    Is completely wrong!
Actual blue balls happens when you have been brought close to orgasm and then left hanging over and over multiple times and over a long period of time.

People who say they got blue balls because they are sexually frustrated are simply sexually frustrated.

Look up "temporary fluid congestion (vasocongestion)" in google.
The first picture of the really big swollen junk... That is temporary fluid congestion (vasocongestion)

    • I actually did... "Blue balls is a slang term for the condition of temporary fluid congestion (vasocongestion) in the testicles accompanied by testicular pain caused by prolonged sexual arousal in the human male without ejaculation." It doesn't say anywhere there that it needs to happen multiple times. I wasn't close to orgasm multiple times when this happened to me. I wasn't just sexually frustrated either because I've been frustrated before and it was never painful like this.

    • I didn't say " it needs to happen multiple times.", I said "prolonged sexual arousal" only with OR without ejaculation doesn't matter. Vasocongestion is a medical term used to describe a swelling in body tissue due to increased blood flow to the area, as it happens during sexual arousal... however orgasm doesn't necessarily do any difference, it depends on blood flow exclusively not orgasms.

    • @oracle12c I'm assuming you're the other anonymous opinion and ended up commenting on the wrong opinion here. Anyway, you're right that it depends exclusively on the blood flow. However, orgasms do disturb the blood flow, so they indirectly affect whether you get them or not.
