Why abortion should NOT be done!

Why abortion should NOT be done!

Lately on GAG there have been a few questions about a sensitive issue which is abortion(which inspired me to write this take)...some people here are for it(i.e; its the woman's body so its her choice to keep the baby or not) and others are against it(its murder)so...WHAT IS ABORTION?

Abortion is the ending of pregnancy through the removal or forcing out from the womb of a fetus or embryo before it is able to survive on its own. An abortion can occur spontaneously, in which case it is often called a miscarriage. It can also be purposely caused in which case it is known as an induced abortion.

Some people are often confused about the difference between abortion and miscarriage..WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

Why abortion should NOT be done!

Miscarriage(also known as spontaneous abortion) is the accidental expulsion of the fetus or termination of pregnancy, in which the fetus cannot survive on its own(It occurs without warning!!). It usually occurs during the first trimester of pregnancy. During this situation, the woman does not have ANY control over the event, which usually occurs because of accidents or when the woman is not capable of supporting a fetus due to some health conditions whereas an abortion is the termination of pregnancy either due to natural reasons or through human intervention. There are many reasons why this happens.Therapeutic abortion may be done when the pregnancy endangers both the mother and the fetus, in which case, saving the mother’s life is the priority. Some would view abortion as a situation where there is some form of manual manipulation that causes the expulsion of the fetus from the womb.Put in mind that miscarriage is NOT abortion!!!

What are the risks while a woman chooses to have an abortion?

Why abortion should NOT be done!

1. Cramping of the uterus or pelvic pain

2. Nausea or vomiting

3. Diarrhea

4. Warmth or chills

5. Headache

6. Dizziness

7. Fatigue

8. Inability to get pregnant due to infection or complication of an operation

9. Allergic reaction to the medicines

10. Hemorrhage (heavy bleeding) possibly requiring treatment with an operation, a blood transfusion, or both

11. Incomplete removal of the unborn child, placenta, or contents of the uterus, requiring an operation

12. Depression

13. Death

How is an abortion procedure performed?

A 9 week foetus:

Why abortion should NOT be done!

A 23 week foetus

So my question is why do people want to have abortions? Having a baby is a gift from God.

  • Your diagram is incredibly unrealistic to show the size of a fetus in the womb when an abortion is performed. Abortions are supposed to be safely done in clinics up to the 12th week. The diagram you provided matches a fetus that looks almost like it's in the 7th month!

This kind of tactic is used to guilt women in to thinking they have a full baby getting sucked out when realistically from about 4-12 weeks it grows from the size of a poppy seed to the size of a blueberry. I strong suggest women use a source online that details what an abortion is like from a pro-choice website so they can put their fears to rest.

Also, your statistic on death - where? In first world countries, the death statistic happens in botched, illegal abortions, not in clinics with professionals and access to immediate care for the patient. I hope to assume women reading this consider legal and safe abortions, and any unwanted child especially if the baby is a product of rape will be compared to any flu-like symptoms you describe as side effects.

I respect those who have a pro-life viewpoint, but as someone pro-choice this sure paints an exaggerated picture of what the embryo looks like, and strikes fear in to her when there is a lot evidence of safe procedures as well.

    • The sad truth is that people believe that stuff. I can't blame her to be against abortion after seeing such unrealistic things. It is so believably presented... Like easily digestible pre-chewed lies. The brain likes them... It's kind of genius when you think of it.

    • Well I was going to mention that she has a lot of guts to have written this myTake knowing that she would be in for a lot of backlash from pro-choicers who were going to come here and attack her for this. I'm not doing that. I like to see things laid out in a fair way. It's just I didn't think the diagram was fair, nor was there enough information about where the side-effects statistics were from and why. I already know that I will have to respectfully agree to disagree with the Take Owner and the Pro-Lifers on this matter because I'm very pro-choice and opt to see the safety of the woman before anything else. If they believe that I'm wrong for that, then so be it.

  • It depends on the situation entirely, i mean
    > Girl A is in a loving relationship that forget to wear a condom, her and her boyfriend are wealthy and can afford a child but just can't help but wonder ''are we ready yet?'' (Even though they probably are). Should she have an abortion? Probably not...

    > Girl B is a 16 year old who was raped, She has a very rough home life with no family to support her and no friends or loved ones to help her through the pregnancy, She was hoping to get into college but a child would mean her dropping out and having to work the rest of her life in a terrible job as she won't have good qualifications, Not to mention at her age the birth could kill her and the thought of having a child terrifies her and she is completely incapable of raising a human being properly.

Why judge both of them under the same ''Abortion is wrong''? Clearly for Girl B it would be a merciful thing to do.
And, Its not Murder. The Fetus cannot experience pain or emotion until WAY past the legal abortion date, Heck, if the abortion is carried out early, i don't even think its fair to call a mush of cells that will one day be a person a ''Human being'', Let alone one capable of experiencing being murdered.

    • i understand the case of girl B... i respect others choice and i think that rape should be the only reason why a women should think about an abortion... i mean... who's that women who would accept to keep the child of a rapist?

    • ^Exactly, But most Prolifers dont have your mind set and think a child should ALWAYS Be kept, and anyone with half a brain can easily decide for themselves that in situations like that, It would be far cruler to ruin an already young womens life and put a human being into the world who will likely have a terrible life and not be supported properly, then it would just to end the pregnancy.

  • I have always been against abortion, which is basically legal murder, and this take with those picture just solidified that viewpoint.

The reality is that most of the women getting abortions were not raped or victims of incest. They were willing participants of sex who wanted to be sexually liberated and enjoyed getting pumped with a dick yet can't "woman up" and handle their responsibilities by tackling motherhood the way a man should "man up" if he slips up and creates a child. Not even 50% of abortions take place due to rape or incest. The women who are so eager to support abortions are the ones who can't keep their legs closed and want to forget that there's an actual REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM in their vaginas: it's not just some fun, flesh, built-in sex toy! There is nothing wrong with exploring sex but if you are too broke and generally unequipped to provide for a human being then maybe you should reconsider spreading your legs all the time and putting yourself at risk for a situation you can't handle. Lets just be real: Females these days are so overly concerned with their sexuality that they'd rather sacrifice an innocent human being's future for their own given their uterus actually fulfills it's biological design.

There are actually rape victims who ended up pregnant and said that an abortion only intensified and deepened their trauma because now they are dealing with the guilt of sacrificing an innocent human being's life. This documentary has testimonies of women who were actually victims of rape and incest as apposed to people online who just assume that an abortion magically erases the rape or makes the rape all better. -_- It also has testimonies from people who were conceived out of rape and incest and how they feel about society suggesting that they should die because of their father's sins.

  • For me, the risks of pregnancy outweigh the risks of abortion, unfortunately, and I really don't view babies as a gift from God (for me, personally). And early on, I don't consider them children just yet. So I have to disagree.

But I understand your perspective, and I think this is a good take! I like that you acknowledge various circumstances and procedures, and it's always good to be aware of what abortion really is (the risks and procedures, anyway). It's definitely never a decision to be made lightly, and to me, is a definitely last, last resort measure. It hurts to imagine having to make that call, but I do think the choice should be available.

    • thanks to agree with my point of view! cool username btw!

  • you do realize that the whole point of "pro choice" isn't "pro abortion" but, the right to chose.
It's litterally giving you the right to decide. I would LOVE to see your face when a judge or a doctor says "no, your 15 years old daughter will have to carry the child of the rapist who almost killed her, and scarred her for life". Because that IS the consequense of abolishing aborton. Maybe not for you, but for mothers every year, every month.
I will NOT stand by and encourage that.

I am pro choice simply because i believe everyone have the right to chose. You want to keep it, fine for you. Then keep it! For others it might be morally justifiable to abort. Then they get to do so! Pro choice is litterally the ability for the woman to chose for herself!

And if we ban abortions, i can promise you one thing! There WILL be underground linics, and they will NOT be safe AT ALL! And there WILL be people "spontanously aborting" in Canada, in Europe, in asia... anywhere where they don't care that it's banned in the states.

Oh, and the only place still remotely considering pro life is in fact the states. The entire western world is pro-choice, and beleive in the right to chose. It's a moral dilemma, yes. But that dilemma is up to each person, not a government law forcing an opinion she might not want onto her.
Abortion may be the death of a child, but pro-life is the death of freedom. Suck on that, america.

And fiy; atheists don't give a rat's ass about religion. They don't believe in it.

    • Even the embryo has the right to choose whether to live or not. There is a whole lot of difference between a mere zygote and a well developed embryo, of course, but a new born is no different from an embryo which is about to be born. A rape victim always has the choice to abort within a couple of days or weeks within the rape happened -- that's perfectly alright. She doesn't have to wait till the embryo develops into a baby and then let that baby undergo one of the most gruesome deaths ever. Imagine that you are sentenced to a medieval torture and death -- ripping apart your body parts one by one gradually until you die. Would you still want that "freedom to murder" and would happily let yourselves be tortured to death?

    • @johnyk that's why you got a limit to how long you can wait. And that's how abortion laws work, you asshat. In Norway that limit is 12 weeks (because doctors have decided that it is the correct balance between fetus/embryo development, and a woman's ability to detect pregancny then decide). And beyond that it CAN be done at ANY time under certain criteria, but that HAS to be approved by a comitte (who's only job is to handle cases like that) and ONLY if one or more of the following criteria are followed a) there is a risk for the woman's physical or mental health b) the woman has a difficult life situation c) there is great danger for a child's illness d) pregnancy is a result of rape or incest e) mother has mental illness or mental retardation Note that the older the embryo/fetus is the harder it is to get an abortion approved (especially after week 18). So tell me; does that sound fair?

    • Yup. That sounds fair. (I'm not avoiding the possibility that the women herself can kill the baby after that time and get away with it saying it was miscarriage -- no one can prevent it. But, at least, they do discourage the gruesome killing, and yet give woman the freedom to abort in those 12 weeks.)

  • Beautifully done here, @zombiebabe...
I believe that a girl has a right in her very first month or so to terminate her pregnancy if it is a situation where it would be a mistake in her life.
We all make mistakes and without using birth control, can bring unwanted pregnancy into the picture.
I do NOT approve of Abortion if it is almost full term and I feel our government is out of their mind for allowing such a law where the unborn child is terminated when he or she is in this stage of being nearly full term.

    • thanks for you opinion Paris

    • Oh, so welcome, @zombiebabe.:)) xx

  • You have some of your facts wrong, and are distorting other things. You've also contradicted yourself.

Carrying a pregnancy to term is far riskier to health than safely performed elective abortion, on the whole. Most abortions are not performed by the methods you indicated.

If you truly believe abortion is wrong, the least you can do is make a *truthful* case, but you have just spewed forth propaganda and deliberate distortion ( though YOU may not even know how what you're saying is distorted. You may just be repeating what you have heard.)

  • Reading and seeingtthese images made me want to cry... I think it's clear where I stand.

    • i understand

  • You "pro-lifers" only care about the potential life of the child. You don't care about the actual person carrying the child, and you don't give a shit about what happens to the child after it's born either. "Pro-life" my ass.

    • I refuse to call them pro-life. They are anti-abortion. Pro-choicers are far more "pro-LIFE" in general.

  • I agree with what you said above. Those picture are shoking but they depict the truth. The baby is a separate life living inside a woman's body until it is born. Abortion kills a human life and often harms the woman who does it. Making an abortion so that the baby isn't a hurdle in your life is out of the question. It's simple, a woman who isn't ready to have a child, shouldn't have sex, because even birth control has a possibility of failure. There are gray zones where it's not clear what should a woman do, such as in cases of rape, especially during a war, incest or when it's clear that the baby will have severe problems. Still, I think the best option is to give birth rather than make an abortion. Then, you can either be there for the baby or give it to an adoption center.

    • am glad you agree with my pov

  • Making abortion illegal will increase the back alley abortions and increase the risks involved. Do you want that? It's like the gun debate. Making guns illegal won't make guns not exist.

    • I think that a woman who willingly chooses to sacrifice the innocent life of a baby deserves whatever painful, ugly, unbearable risks that come with abortion. Karma.

    • You won't think that when the woman's blood is on your street.

  • I don't see anything wrong with ending a pregnancy early during embryonic development.

Everyone should know life begins at conception. It's a living cell dividing and growing into more cells.

But there's a big difference in my book between taking a morning after pill, or getting an early abortion vs waiting until the fetus is highly developed. People who wait until the fetus is highly developed, and then choose to abort a perfectly healthy fetus that did not endanger the mother's life are wrong, in my opinion. Because there are many options to avoid pregnancy whether that be birth control or a morning after pill. Plus, an early abortion doesn't make someone a terrible person. However, cutting up a developing animal inside the mother's womb, without any type of pain medication, is cruel and terrible. And I would hope this is only done in extreme circumstances.

This is why I agree with free birth control and sex education classes.

    • makes sense

    • Yes, but what are the principals we should use... when is it "highly developed" enough for abortion when is abortion wrong?

    • When it can feel the pain of being ripped apart.

  • Great take. But then again, what if the lady was raped? I'm pretty sure this lady wouldn't want to give birth to a baby that would remind her of such tragic moment. I'm a pro-choice, and pro-life. Pro-life because I'm against people that use abortion as a form of birth control.

Looks like there might be a "war" here soon lol but you really have the guts to write this, knowing that many people might attack you on this.

    • there's already a war going on lol but my main aim was to point out how risky it was

  • I could personally never have an abortion and I don't even want children, ever but if I did get pregnant, I would accept responsibility and take care of something that I created.

But also as someone who doesn't want children, I can completely understand how having a child could completely flip your world upside down if it's not something that you're ready for, not to mention the other reasons why women have abortions.

The thing is just because I personally would never do it, doesn't mean I have the right to take away another woman's choice to not have one and I also don't think it's fair of me to judge their reasons and decisions for wanting an abortion.

Abortion is difficult enough on a woman's mind and body and then having others question them for it as well, is just too much in my opinion.

The subject of abortion isn't just black and white and I don't think it's an easy thing for anyone to do.

  • The earlier abortions are taking a pill which kills the foetus, then 24 hours later two pills are inserted into the vagina, this breaks down the dead body and allows it to pass.

Sadly more than one of my friends has gone through this procedure and I myself have basically gone through it too when having a miscarriage. It is not pleasant. It is not easy. It is not something you walk away from feeling better about. I'm saying this so those who think it's a simple medical procedure are aware it is not. It's fucking traumatic.

I'm pro choice but I think people should be more aware of the grizzly details surrounding even the early terminations.

    • i respect your opinion and i'm sorry for what you've been through.. i have friends who went through the same problem too

    • It's ok, in all honesty it was most likely a blessing in disguise. I wasn't in a good place mentally and I don't think giving up a child is ever something I could live with.

  • There are a lot of different reasons why a woman (or girl) would want to have an abortion, and those reasons are not your business. Perhaps she isn't ready to be a mother, emotionally or financially. Perhaps she honestly feels that she is not capable of providing for her child, financially or emotionally. Perhaps she has never wanted to be a mother, does not feel she would be a good mother, and thus chooses not to be. Maybe she was on birth control but was one of the rare unlucky women whose birth control failed her? Maybe she was raped and doesn't want to deal with the ever-present reminder of what happened to her.

It doesn't matter - her reasons are HER reasons. And YOU are not in a position to pass judgment or to decide for HER what is right for her body and for her life.

What pisses me off is how many anti-abortion people don't give a shit what happens to the child once it is born. I refuse to call them pro-life, because being pro-LIFE would mean they actually care about the quality of the life that they want to force a woman to bear. Unless you are willing to step up and adopt her baby, don't you dare try to tell a pregnant and scared woman who does not want to become a mother at this time in her life that she has to have that baby. Even if you were willing to adopt every baby that is otherwise going to be aborted, the legal process is ridiculous and most of them would end up in foster care, where many will be sexually and physically abused, and where they will be 75% more likely to end up in prison later on in life.

  • You're aware that if abortion is made illegal how many women will start dying from backyard abortions again, right?

No to be cruel or anything, but I don't give a damn about the 'life' of a thing without a brain when a woman's life is at stake. A fetus can be forgotten, a living person can't.

People give their animals abortions all the time. People 'fix' animals all the time, and that is legal and forever will be legal, because oh, it's for the animals good! Why the hell do animals get treated better than people when it comes to medical shit?
Animals don't even get the choice that we do. Why would you take that choice away? It's the one thing I have up on my cat!

    • to each his/her opinion

    • Wow this is an old comment... Not sure how i ended up back here. This was what? 3 years ago? Been at least that long since i owned a cat. Anyway. Fun fact. Abortions and miscarriages require the exact same instruments! So... Even if abortion was officially demonised as an illegal act, doctors are always going to have the right tools. And there have always been "under the table" doctors. So guess what, legal or not, abortions are going to happen anyway. Might as well make sure they stay safe and regulated especially when opinions are so split on the morality of them

"I believe that it is and not only that. I'm sick of people being nit-picky about the very definition of what a murder is. It's simple. Murder is to end the life of a human, which abortion does indeed do. I disregard the argument that it is "just a fetus". Whatever. The fact is, it's killing what would be an infant and how anyone can see that as being justified blows my mind.

Now While I don't agree with it I KNOW THAT THERE are certain times where it's somewhat necessary. if a girl was raped or if a family was simply too poor to afford a child at the moment. While I don't agree that, that child should have a chance at life, BUT I also realize that if it was brought into this world, it might not have much of 1 to begin with since they're so poor." i1127.photobucket.com/.../ezgif.com-add-text.gif

  • I respect that you have your opinion, but an opinion should not cause any infringement on a woman's rights.

The vast majority of abortions are performed before a foetus is considered 'alive'. Those that are performed after are usually in emergency circumstances.

Also remember that women may wish to abort due to rape resulting in pregnancy, inability to care for a child, ill health, or simply a desire not to be a mother. She has every right to make that decision. No one has the right to say she is not allowed to.
