Do Men Not Care About Waist-to-Hip Ratio Anymore?

When you look at evolutionary biology studies, such as Singh (1993) and many subsequent (google 'studies WHR'), they tell us that the most attractive thing about a woman's body is the difference between her waist and hip size. That is, a low waist-to-hip ratio, i.e. a small waist relative to hip size (I say relative because it's about proportion, not actual size).

A low WHR gives the in-and-out shape that is stereotypically associated with a woman's body, as opposed to the straight up and down look of a man's figure. For example, this actress in the 70s:

Do Men Not Care About Waist-to-Hip Ratio Anymore?

Or, Rachel Bilson:

Do Men Not Care About Waist-to-Hip Ratio Anymore?

This is as opposed to a straight body shape, where there is no defined waist, i.e. the waist does not curve inwards, and then the hips flare out. For example, Cameron Diaz below, and Kate Upton. Although the latter has very large breasts, she still has a very straight body.

Do Men Not Care About Waist-to-Hip Ratio Anymore?

The point I'm trying to make with this post is this: it seems, in today's world at least, men don't care about the actual shape of the woman's body, they don't care about the waist-to-hip curve, the waist to hip ratio that the studies say men all find attractive. It seems that most men care about large breast size, as long as the woman is slim, or relatively slim, depending on his tastes. There are lots of celebrities, porn stars and men's magazine models who have a straight body, but just very large breasts (whether real or fake.....)

So, what do you think? Do guys these days not actually care about the shape of a body, the WHR? I would be interested to know your opinions...

  • i've noticed this too

  • You took the time to learn some history, but not the history of how body beauty changes almost every decade.

  • What you see in magazines and the media is what women want not what men want. Figure is definitely important, that's why models aren't that good looking by themselves.

  • Are you really trying to body shame Kate Upton? She's gorgeous. Not every women is built to look the same. There is no factory where they produce only one type of look. There are many types of looks.

  • Woman all have wider hips than the rest of their body. It's for pushing out a baby, although an overweight woman may not show the hour glass shape, she still has wider hips.

    • lol, thats true tbh. Doesn't everyone, anyway? thats what a skeleton looks like

    • @Laura_Marx A woman doesn't need to be 'overweight' to have hips. And, not all women have visibly wider hips - some women do look straight...

  • Best Sports Illustrated Cover Ever. Curves for days. Ashley Graham.

I love women with big hips ;D

  • My body is A1 🔥

    • very cool. show and tell sometime ;-P

  • you know what all these studies can kiss my ass.

  • I'm actually a "wide hips chaser". You know hourglass bodies or pear shaped bodies. Hmm, love them =3.

  • I care a lot about waist-to-hil ratio; that's part of the reason I've never found Kate Upton to be at all appealing. I love women with big hips and big asses, and women like Kate Upton simply don't have that.

  • I care about the shape of a girls body but that whole WHR means nothing to me

  • the wip to waist ratio is about having big boobs and a big butt, if a women has both of those that all we need.

  • Waist-to-hip ratio is everything.

  • Damn Kate uptown has a nice body!! 😍😍😍😍
