Do you agree with the Sex Worker decriminalization bill introduced by a female lawmaker and co-sponsored by 3 more female colleagues in Vermont?

Selene Colburn introduced the bill and it was co-sponsored by Diana Gonzalez, Maxine Grad and Emilie Kornheiser last week in the State of Vermont.

“By driving sex work underground, we’re creating much more dangerous conditions for sex workers,” Colburn said. “They should feel like they have the protection of police if they need it.”

I am not in favor of girls becoming prostitutes but there are some who see no other way out of financial emergency's that they find themselves in and some are even forced into it by sex slave rings.

I think decriminalizing it would stop making a crime out of something that is legal if you do it for free and would reduce the number of sex slave rings that operate throughout the nation.

What is your take on this dilemma?

SEX WORKER DECRIMINALIZATION
Do you agree with the Sex Worker decriminalization bill introduced by a female lawmaker and co-sponsored by 3 more female colleagues in Vermont?
A. I think it should remain illegal and the girls who do such a thing should be punished to the maximum extent of the law for their immorality!

C. YES! I agree 100% with the female legisators that it should be decriminilized to be made safer, where the girls could receive medical check-ups and sex slave rings would be more easily caught

  • I totally oppose this and instead propose an alternative. Sex work should be regulated by the state just like any other job. Why is it that women can become prostitutes on a whim without prior training or formal recognition?

There are lots of women who are scammers and never intend to have sex with their customers. They ask their customers to pay upfront by putting money in electronic wallet like Paypal. There are dozens of these apps.

If prostitution should be legal, it should be regulated and be a protected job like say taxi drivers or massage therapists. As a massage therapist I cannot massage pregnant women, because I don't have the necessary training and certificate for it, neither can you just pick up people on the street and ask money for it, you need a taxi drivers license.

So why should you be able to have sex with people for money legally when every other job is regulated? Makes no sense to me.

  • I'd say legalise it

    • Agreed!

    • Not just the safety side but think of the tax revenue it would bring in. The government are always wanting more tax out of us but won't legalise sex work. there's literally billions in earnings going un taxed there.

  • Sex work is not real work that needs to be displayed publicly. Sex should be sacred and private and done for procreation with experiencing the pleasures of it with your spouse.

    • Who said anything about public displays? Sex work is going on in YOUR town every day. No one is talking about putting up billboards, they're talking about making it legal so that the prostitutes have some protections under the law. Currently, because they are technically criminals, it's almost impossible for them to testify against people who have wronged them, as they are considered to be "unreliable witnesses." Changing the law would change that in a big way. Also, no one is talking about making pimping legal - in fact, that's exactly where law enforcement should focus.

  • I am torn on this subject, I think sex slave rings should be completely illegal and face maximum jail time.
On the other hand what an individual woman does with her body is her business.
Another factor is if made legal how would it be regulated, maybe a sex worker registry to ensure health concerns are kept under control, this would also would include being taxed on money earned?
Maybe allow legitimate businesses to operate so that sex workers have medical coverage, and fee's are taxed, protection for the women?
I'm just shooting out some ideas, I really don't know how it would be done properly, safely, with medical coverage's in place, and maybe even a pension system.

  • There's ups and downs to either option, so I can see both sides of the argument fairly easily. If I had to pick though, I'd say I'm on the legalization side by about an inch. It would be beneficial for both guys and girls. Women would have more options to make money, and desperate guys could have an outlet for their sexuality. It's going to happen anyway, so at least it would be regulated, and it would also reduce sexually related criminal offenses.

    • Gold Star for you Mr Mezius! :)

  • sex work is not a bad profession..

  • What the heck is going on in Vermont? Some of the crazy proposed laws in VT seem like a conspiracy to tarnish Bernie Sanders. Some other lawmaker was proposing that children and young adults not be allowed to have access to cellphones until the age of 21.

Has VT always been this crazy or is the timing suspect giving the candidacy of Bernie Sanders?

  • I think being paid to have sex, is wrong
