So there's many 'reasons' men don't want to use condoms, including:

-They don't feel as nice/it feels better without one

-My dick is too big

-I'm clean, why should we?

-I don't want to 'waste' time putting one on.

etcetera. While the second one makes no sense (look at the condom challenge, your dick WILL fit) and the last two are just unsafe, the first one is an opinion. If you and your partner share that opinion, fine, you both agree.

However, most often times both partners do NOT agree over the use of condoms. Condoms are one of the safest ways of anti-conception. They have a 98% rate of working when used right.

There are also occasions for using a condom. If it's a one night stand I'd say always use a condom, because, duh? You don't know the person too well and they might carry an std or you'll get pregnant from a stranger. This one's for straight people only: if your girl isn't using birth control, you should use a condom.

"Well, she should just use birth control, why am I the only one expected to stop pregnancies?" I hear you think. I agree women have to carry part of the burden, but! Have you considered how the pill works, for example? Well, first of all, birth control is a hell of a lot harder than just ripping a condom package open. You have to take the pill, each day, at the same time. No matter where you are, when you skip one, you're unprotected. I'd say try doing that with a placebo, guys. Like buzzfeed has done with tictacs. Furthermore, the pill has hormones in it and does not just prevent pregnancy. You're pumping hormones into your body, which means your whole cycle changes and more. Girls can get fatter or thinner, more acne or less acne, a worse period or a better period, a longer period or a shorter one. These outcomes differ for everyone, so you never know what you're going to get.

If you don't want to take on the responsibility that comes with being a guy and thus having sperm, why are you even having sex? I totally agree women should own condoms as well, and try out if birth control other than the condom works for her, but that should NEVER be because a man has told her he wants her to. Not getting an std or pregnant has to come from both ways, but not using it is just stupid, unless you want to get pregnant.

The only two birth controls I like so far are the condom and the IUD. Both make sure you're protected and keep your natural business okay. Those are the two i'd recommend to all. Be responsible before getting intimate, please. There's already too many humans and sick people on this planet. Peace.

  • Yes. So many people just easily say "birth control" without weighing the pros and dangers, including the women who take it religiously.
    There should be a table evaluating not only the efficiency but also the dangers of each contraceptive. To top it off, even condoms seem to cause more harm to women than men, so it figures many men only care about the money they spend.

    • "even condoms seem to cause more harm to women " Latex allergy? Then use non-latex condoms. Too dry? Then use lubed condoms.

    • @jacquesvol the point was, when and if condoms cause an issue, that will be on the woman. By the time she/ they're looking for an alternative, she is the one who already suffered at least some pain or discomfort.

  • Of course "sex" is not the same as "sexual intercourse." If you're having sexual intercourse then you should use condoms. No exceptions. Period. Full stop. However, an STD negative couple in a faithful long term monogamous relationship (note those important conditions!), who do only oral sex and not sexual intercourse, not only don't need to use condoms, they don't even need to use any form of birth control at all. The joy of oral sex has many such side benefits. Oral sex folks, it's the best. :)

  • I partially agree. I mean if its a one night stand. definitely wear condoms. Theyre the only one protected against most stds. But I do get the whole 'it feels better without' which is why me and my partner both agreed for me to get a iud which in theory is more protection. And being as both know each other are clean there should be no problems.
    So in regards to condoms, I think it should be up to the person. If. in relationships they should compromise as condoms aren't the only way.

  • You overlooked the fact that a couple can be very monogamous, both have tested clean for STD's, and they are infertile (often because the female is post-menopausal.) Yes, older people have sex!

  • You're right about one thing, since I'm celibate anyway.

    If I actually gave a shit, then I would have had a vasectomy a long time ago and do everything I could to hook up as frequently as much as possible with as many people as possible, but I realized that it just isn't who or what I really am nor wanted to be, thus I never bothered with it, I just don't feel nor think it would actually bring me any real sense of fulfillment nor satisfaction.

    And besides, a vasectomy only prevents unplanned for and unwanted pregnancies, it's useless against STD's, thus I'd have to buy condoms over and over again. I'm good, I'll pass. Save my money for something else instead. Thus I don't use them, as I'd have no need to use them as I'm celibate.

    That's what people that believe "everything" they see on the internet.

    Condoms DO have size range they are made for... that's why there are more than 1 type of condom made. Most people don't realize they are sized by width/girth and not length (length barely changes most 7<8" long).

    Condom size is a big problem in the USA as the FDA limits what could be sold here to only 57mm (which is ideal for 4.94" Girth <5.38"G).

    If a guy is thicker than that he will have to order online and get them shipped from overseas.

    A medical study on condoms.. showed that they are best when stretch 10<20%... which isn't much.

    <10% and the chance of slipping off goes up and over 20% the chance of breakage sky rockets. Also it is very difficult to put on and can be painful to use a condom that is to small.

    All those dumb balloon condom challenges aren't being rubbed against anything... friction dramatically increases the chance of breakage.

    • I never said the condom was safer than the pill. Pregnancy wise, it is not. Std wise, the pill doesn't do shit. I also just said the pill is a lot shittier to use.

    • .. As I said, I implied the pill was shittier to use and therefore the condom easier. I did not say EVER it was safer, which it is STD wise but not pregnancy wise.

  • I've used a condom once and haven't since, still never had an STD even though I would be considered a "fuck boy" when I was in my 20's if that term existed then. My philosophy is if you need a condom to fuck someone then you probably shouldn't be fucking them at all (I ask for recent checkup results and keep mine updated every 3-4 months in my wallet ready to show if asked). That is like running into a burning building with a heat suit on and hope that it doesn't collapse with you still inside. As far as contraception I got clipped 20 years ago when I was 24 when made up my mind I never wanted kids. That is >99.9% effective (more than any other method) and I have never knocked anyone up even with my body count.

  • When i read this take and saw you age i immediately knew you where dutch. It seems like our sexual and drug educations are still top notch as it clearly educates better then a lot of stuff. I am still for 2 layered protection for example the pill and use of condoms so that if one method fails you still have a backup. But unless i care less about childbirth, i'd be super paranoid about my partner being on the pill. What if she accidentally forgot to take it one day? What if we start to soon? When was the day she is supposed to stop again? With a condom i know its around me.

    That said your picture kind of contradicts the statements. Why are we the ones who should do the burden in a relationship. If the girl isn't very sensetive hormonally and she wears a vaginal ring that would be less of a risk since condom's can still snap. As long as you are both tested clean and don't sleep around it should be perfectly save. But then again like i mentioned i am all for 2 measures.

    Contraception options available to females are just far more safe, efficient and convenient to use so it should be their job to explore them, not out of selfishness but out of pure practicality.
    If you don't want to use hormonal contraceptives it is perfectly understandable, but even in that case I would just opt for ovulation tracking and spermicides.
