Why I Disagree With Having LGBT+ Characters In Kids Shows

Well,hello everyone.

It's me again.

For the past year there has been a huge debate about letting kids watch movies or TV shows with LGBT+ characters, or in general exposing young kids to LGBT+.

So I decided to give my opinion on the topic with this take.

Back in October we actually did an expirement in School about this topic,if you want to know the results, feel free to ask me.

Before you continue,I want to make something clear, there is nothing wrong with being homosexual,asexual,bi-sexual or transsexual or anything else.

I have friends that belong in the community and I don't love them less because of their sexuality.

It's your choice, your right to be whoever you want to be and NONE can tell you to change yourself.I'm not here to shame anyone.

This MyTake is my personal point of view, I don't try to offend anyone neither to hurt or anger members of the LGBT+.

Why I Disagree With Having LGBT+ Characters In Kids Shows

1.It Will Confuse Them, Not Only Because It's Different But Also Because It's Controversial.

Why I Disagree With Having LGBT+ Characters In Kids Shows

Just like how we shouldn't brainwash or force children into religion, or anything else, we shouldn't either fill them with questions regarding their sexuality.

If you expose children in homosexuality or transexuality the results aren't guratanteed to be positive. The whole topic may be extremely positive for their development as people but it can also be too damaging for their young brain, some will accept it while others won't.

Plus LGBT+ it's too controversial to appear on a child's show. Kids are too inoccent, they won't understand why there are so mixed reactions of their parents, their friend's parents and in general everyone's about something like this.

2.They Are Too Young To Have in General Information About Sexual Orienation.

Why I Disagree With Having LGBT+ Characters In Kids Shows

Sex is completely natural.

There is nothing wrong with it of course, but it should not be in children's shows because inorfming children about sex it's a parent's job.

None else's.

Every parent believe that the time to talk about sex is ideal at different ages, same goes with th talking about different sexualities.

3.They Won't Really Understand.

Why I Disagree With Having LGBT+ Characters In Kids Shows

Kids are extremely smart but they tend to believe that what they see on TV is the right thing, and growing up thinking that this is the way things are suppose to be...it's mistaken.

Some people that belong to LGBT+ in the past have explained that they had a problem seeing only straight couples on the TV shows because it made them feel unnatural.

Same will happen this time, but with opposites roles.

And that will bring no result.

However to end this,I do of course think that the kids as they get older should start being informed about different sexualities so they can start accepting that people might be different than the,, but only when they are ready to understand and realize that they don't HAVE to be something that they don't feel like it just because it exists.

-END.

  • There have been cases where kids have committed suicide after coming out as gay in school and these were elementary kids too.

  • Great take. My thoughts also.

    • Thank you

  • i am not in favor of representing a tiny minority as if they were a majority. i am in favor of representing reality fairly. i don't mind a sexually deviant character in a disney movie but i want them to be presented as deviant and not as the norm, cause they are not the norm. not being the norm doesn't mean it's bad. just not the norm.

  • I whol eheatly agree with number 2

  • I agree with you OP

  • Interesting take, I agree

    • Thank you

    Always acting brave, good job
As for the experiment, I would love to know about it, and one more question for you.
What age do you think is appropriate for kids to be exposed sexual content?

    • 18..

    • @red_knight yes that's why I am asking She is smart and mature, but still under 18

    • That age isn't accurate... She's just screwing with a lot of people's heads with false age

  • I agree with you. But it is not only LGBT+ that concerns me, there are a lot of violence in some of the kids shows that are also not good for them

  • There is no one that hasn't heard kids calling each other "gay" like it's a bad thing. "That's so gay", "You're such a fag", "Does your mom know you're gay?" From the getgo, children have a false pretense. Someone needs to let them know that's it's fine for someone to be gay, and if television like Steven Universe is the best way for them to learn that, then why not.

  • They're kids, so most parents tend to shelter their kids from sexual activities until they're an appropriate age that they'll be able to dictate what they feel is sexually acceptable for them. The LGBT community needs to get it through their heads that the stupidity of teaching a child that a 'gay' person is 'acceptable' is massive. They don't even think of such things on their own at that age.

    • I kinda agree

  • It won't confuse them, it will just conflict with the beliefs their parents taught them.

LGBT+ characters aren't exactly new, and since kids are born a certain way and raised to feel a certain way. Being born gay and seeing traditional roles is not detrimental, but the only thing it would hurt is tradition.

Would it be easy for certain Christian families to accept? Yeah, but why are people so fearful?

The only problem I have with it, is that sometimes companies do it purely for exploitation of the community.

Certain writers will say that certain characters were gay (when it's not only weird to say that now that everyone else is doing it but alright)

When the legend of Korea implied that two female characters were together, people were amazed and outraged.

But it was just one moment, just one moment that made people feel like they weren't just ignored that them being themselves wasn't a bad thing.

There are so many things in kids shows that are much more repulsive and suggestive than just two guys sitting next to each other under a tree, maybe even cuddling.

It's impossible to brainwash children to be gay, because despite so many years of media never portray gay characters, people still turned out to be gay, wonder why?

  • Agreeeeeed

  • I always thought they should do an X-rated version of those classic cartoons for adults only.

Instead of Sleeping Beauty being awoken by a kiss, Prince Charming decides to take advantage of her slumber.

    • You are aware that this was what happened in the original version of the story, right? ^_^ The story of Sleeping Beauty that we know, that Disney based their movie on, was already heavily toned down and censored from the original one. Let's just say that in that version the princess wasn't awakened by a chaste kiss, but by giving birth to twins after the prince had come and gone...

  • i would love to know the results of your experiment!

  • I personally think it's important but I like seeing it from another's point of view. LGTBQ+ people are real and instead of making your kid feel like shit for being different I think it's good to teach from a young age. By no means forcing it on them, but maybe having the side-character sexually ambiguous would be a good way to start

  • I agree 🙄🤦‍♂️

  • interesting mytake.

    • Thank you

  • Is there something you can do to stop it?

  • You are from Russia right? I do not trust Russians on LGBTQ topics. Russians are super anti LGBTQ

    • I'm indeed Russian. As much as I appriciate you participating in my MyTake's comments section, I dont appriciate at all the racist and prejudiced comment. The fact that I belong to a specific nation does not define me as a person.

    • What I said is true, Russians are known for being anti-LGBTQ. Just look at your so-called "president" who banned anything LGBTQ Russian is not a race, so it was not racist

    • Russian is a nationality, that's correct. I don't disagree that many people here even politicians do not agree with LGBT+. But they are not me, you can't just comment something with being discriminative towards me just because of where I'm coming from. Plus. "Racist : a person who shows or feels discrimination or prejudice against people of other races or nationalities, or who believes that a particular race is superior to another."
