MEN: do you think "supermodels" set the standard of what MOST men find attractive in women?

The modeling industry is run/influenced primarily by eccentric gay men and I feel that your average STRAIGHT male considers most "super" models to be average at best...and I cannot, personally, name one model that I find extremely attractive That being said (and since I hear a lot of women measuring themselves up to these models) do YOU think that these supermodels represent what average men find attractive? Feel free to explain why or why not.

  • Though I personally find some models beautiful, I think some are not just as well. I would NEVER try to look like a model, nor compare myself to one. Only 15% of the popluation is built like a supermodel, so I am in good company. I am happy with the way I look. I am very short only 5'2" with big boobs a very small waist and big hips. I think of myself kind of like Old Hollywood. You know Marylin Monroe, Sophia Loren. The women of the 50's. This is personally what I find a most attractive, a woman with shape to her. Men are also most attracted to a woman with an hourglass shape. It is a primal instinct. I think Victoria Secret has some very beautiful girls, but as far as runway models that are 5'11" and 112lbs I don't think men prefer that look. It just looks sickly and like the body of a little boy. Also, I don't know why a woman would compare herself to anyone she sees on a magazine or the TV. Do you know how many people it takes to look like these women? Trainers, makeup artist, hairstylist, chefs, personal shoppers, dermatologist...I could go on and on but you get the picture! Plus, almost every photo you see is airbrushed or photoshopped! I could look like that too, with all of that help behind me! I think the BIGGEST thing men find most attractive is self-confidence and if you are always comparing yourself to some unreachable standard, men don't find that attractive. The most attractive trait in any women is loving herself for who she is, flaws and all. That is just my two-cents though...

  • Most people equate the word "model" or"supermodel" with absolutely gorgeous. The modelling industry is really more about "unique" looks esp when it comes to high fashion couture. These "unique" looks are seen are unattractive quirks the general populace. But really who cares what the general population thinks. There is always someone who will a person for them with all their quirks because thankfully we are not all machines controlled by the media and popular votes.

  • not all models are attractive, like some are so extremely skinny, that their faces are gaunt and dead looking. but models lke, mirranda kerr, jennifer hawkens and so on, they have a natural beauty that is glowing and just stunning.

  • I think swimsuit, hip hop, glamour, import, etc. models reflect what men find attractive, but not fashion runway models.

    • I concur

  • I have worked as a fashion photographer and assistant to other photographers. I have been around the "perfect" and "flawless" bodies so much that it does not appeal to me like it used to. The current trend of the industry isn't what it was 20 years ago and I don't like it. The models and supermodels today are essentially mannequins and a lot of the photographers treat them as such. But the classic supermodels i.e. Cindy, Heidi, etc. they were a league (and still are) of their own. Yeah these women are very attractive (thats why we use them as models).

But I do not find myself personally interested in those girls even all that much sexually anymore. I do not know what it is but it is so fake to me it is beyond ridiculous. Like I feel like I would pop something that may not be insured (joke). Even though my personality is loud and bosterous, I like the more girl-next-door not supermodel girl. It is wholesome, warm, and I find very beautiful. I guess if you drive a Farrari or BMW (like people do out here) that vixen quality is what you strive for. Not me, I'm successful but I drive a piece, because I'm comfortable in it. Just because the rest of them find it pinnacle for success or beautiful certainly does not mean I will. I think that is the sell overall. BMW wants to sell you an image of success. These gorgeous models want to sell you the image of seductive attraction. Its all percetion.

  • Supermodels...What the hell is a supermodel? How is she super? What's her super power? The ability to endure long periods of starvation to fit into a single gown TAAAA DAAAAA! The hole f***in idea is just more shallow bullshit marketed to us in our culture. I feel bad for women who even entertain the idea that they have to look like these phony ass stick figures. No sir. I want a girl with a great smile and a big ol ass...or as my brother to the south in mexico call it a CULLLLOOOOOOOOOOO! I think its so bizarre that gay men are so prevalent in the fashion industry. call me crazy, but what kind of woman wants to take dressing up pointers from any man that isn't a fan of vagina? I would think gay men would want to concentrate their efforts in the mens fashion world, you know...designing pants that indulges their queer eye for the straight guys package. I love gay men. I have lots of gay male friends, and yes as a straight guy...I speak openly with them on topics just like this. I owe the gay community a lot. They taught me how to decorate and how to dance salsa. So gay people...i support, but I will say this. stop selling a false notion to women that the road to sexy is built on hungry...that's just wrong! and ladies...your all beautiful! let's go get some bbq. that shit is delicious. ttyl y'all! believe in jesus! - out - j

  • good poll! I voted NO.

  • yes I do... but not the 16 and 17 year olds walking the runways, but the legal ones lol

like gisele, heidi, adriana lima, kate moss... they are all beautiful

    • Eh, Gisele's not that hot. Then, neither is Kate Moss.

    • Adriana Lima and Heidi are pretty. Adriana is gorgeous!

    • Adriana IS gorgious. It's kinda sad. I can't find one thing wrong with her.

  • dont you want girls to at least read the answers? I mean you don't want girls "measuring themselves up to these models", do you? what's your goal?

    • Yes I want them to read the answers...why wouldn't I? I wanted guys' opinions on this and I put the "results" button so women can view the results, but a lot of them voted anyways (which is cool I guess) and so far it's mostly women who think models represent female beauty standards instead of the guys. My goal was to take a poll

    • You know what camilus, I like you. your eccentric gay men comment made me laugh. and great idea on the results. to be honest I didn't even notice because I didn't come here to vote. I just thought your question was interesting and liked your view on the topic.

  • I have a hard time believing most of the guys that answered put that they don't think supermodels are a good representation of what men find attractive. Maybe they are confusing supermodels with run-way models who tend to be to extremely thin.

But can you honestly say that you don't think the girls in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition or the Victoria's Secret models are not beautiful? Those are the supermodels. If people didn't think they were beautiful then men wouldn't bother buying the magazines or looking at the pictures and those women wouldn't be the models photographed and displayed.

I am not saying they are the only women that men find beautiful, because beautiful women come in so many varieties, but I think it disingenuous for most men to say they don't think supermodels are attractive. They are beautiful, but a woman doesn't have to look like a supermodel to be beautiful to a man or for him to be attracted to her.

    • That's the whole point. I voted no because the way I understood it was if you vote yes, that means that's what guys find attractive, simple as that. But I think most of us are agreeing with you, that they are hot, but we don't girls to think that they have to look like them to be hot.

  • I'm not a big fan of most runway super models, however I don't think Victoria's Secret ever goes wrong really. I don't think for guys they necessarily set the standard because I still talk with my friends saying well if you took this ones boobs and put it on this one's face...that sort of thing. I think it's an instinct thing. That's why everyone finds something different attractive. I think women look to them more as setting the standard. One funny thing that I read was if you look at a men's magazine what will you find? A lot of beautiful, half clothed women. If you look at a women's magazine what do you find? Pretty much the same thing. Women do it to themselves!

  • I don't think so, because 'most' men aren't paying attention to the runway. They are paying more attention to women they see in person, or in movies and on tv shows.

  • I don't think supermodels are ugly, but most super models I see aren't hot at all. Like I said, they're not ugly, but not my type.

  • Supermodels are in no way representative of what most men find attractive, but they're not necessarily intended to;

Models are professional clothes horses, they are chosen for their ability to show fashionable or newly designed clothes look good. Being very tall and thin is an advantage here.

While most men are not attracted to fat girls, they tend to prefer more curves and a more natural look than "supermodels" usually have.

Unfortunately many women, especially young ones feel under pressure to look like them as they have that image put before them so much.

  • although they do 'aim' to encapture what guys find attractive I think there is something missing. I mean yes they are what we are brought up to see as 'hot or attractive' but I prefer real girls. It is sad how many girls don't feel attractive or sexy or being able to be liked since they do not meet these ridiculous standards. I prefer healthy looking women opposed to those that resemble the starving children in Africa. Plus a lot of the so called super models are the most ditsy and imbecilic people that the world has to offer. I can't stand it when girls pretend to be stupid; I just want to snap... anyways... no

  • I can't stress this enough to women. Supermodels are attractive, but that is not the only attractive look for women. I knew a girl who was 145 pounds and I still thought she was hot. I can't even count how many attractive women I find just by walking the streets and riding the subway and most of them do not look like supermodels. There are so many different types of beauty. So yes, supermodels are hot, but they are not a standard.

    • 5'10'' 165 lbs and I know I'm hot...... number means nothing

  • well I don't see myself attractive in anyway shape or form and my friend always said, I always date girls who aren't very pretty, because then I know they won't cheat on me or dump me for anotehr guy

  • i find many models pretty, but not healthy looking. usually the ones I find pretty though, are remotely healthy looking. or they don't look like they're completely starving:p

but also, I said no even though I'm a girl. just for the heads up.

  • I will be honest, I think models are hot, but they seem fake, so I think real beauty is ooh soo much hotter. Like there are girls I go to college with that I would rather be with than those models, maybe it is because they seem fake, or maybe they seem like they are soo dolled up with makeup and airbrushes and fancy clothes, or maybe they seem too out of reach, but if given a choice between say a girl I know or a supermodel, I would probably choose a girl I know that I think is hot.

  • i don't particularly like models because they are so skinny and whenever I see one I have to wonder what kind of disorder does she have?

  • Models tend to be 30 pounds to thin, plus their aces are almost always ugly. like carla delevigne, I want to punch her in the fucking face every time I see her.

  • Supermodels are too "perfect", too artificial and lifeless. Most of them have facial expression that expresses well... pretty much nothing. It's not mere "perfection" or adhering to some dumb modern so called standards that makes ladies beautiful. It's a combination of that and little unique imperfections that does the job. For instance freckles make some girls gorgeous. Also some women look great skinny others look lovely thicker. Different guys have different taste after all. Personality is also a major factor. Even a hottest looking chick will become extremely unatractive once a crappy personality shows itself. Just be yourself, ladies, be unique don't pay too much attention to what some stupid magazines say. And no matter what- never look down upon yourself- someone somewhere does find you beautiful. Common sense, right?

  • VS models are absolutely gorgeous! However models in general tend to be too skinny. The good thing is they are tall and have long legs which is super hot.

  • What makes a woman attractive to a man is really in the eyes of the beholder.

  • There is a lot of variation among models, so I can't really cast an honest vote. I think Allesandra Ambrosio is extremely attractive, but I don't think Kate Moss is.

    • Yeah Alessandra is my favorite VS model. She's gorgious!

  • I think what we find attractive is established in adolescence---whatever hot female is around when you first become sexually aware, whether they are actually in your presence, or just in the media.

When I was a teen, the supermodel phenomenon wasn't what it is today. Back then, we had the dallas cowgirls and charlie's angels. So, that's what looks good to me.

I'm not sure which girls teen boys are looking at today.

    • I am 28 and the women that I thought were attractive when I was in high school is vastly different than what I find attractive today
