Why do people assume just because a woman is bitchy/moody that she is on her period?

What if men will have to have it for a day, how will you deal?

  • I might be wrong but I don't think this "assumption" is actually meant in earnest. I think it's more a way of joking about a particular woman's grumpiness among men. Say, my best friend watches my wife being really bitchy towards me and me getting stressed out, he might later say: "seems like she's on her period, eh?" Now, in reality my best friend and I don't actually say this because we both find it demeaning towards women but some guys consider it okay... just a form of banter.

Now, maybe I'm being unfair here but I do think women have a stronger tendency to get bitchy towards others when they are annoyed. It's certainly true for my social environment. And I think the reason (or one reason) for this is that women often don't realize that they're annoyed or if they realize it, they don't know the reason. I've experienced this with my wife many times, where she would pick a fight and only a day later she would come to apologize and tell me that she was actually annoyed about something completely unrelated (nothing to do with me) but didn't know/realize it at the time. Like I said, maybe I'm being unfair here to generalize this but I certainly don't have such moments (or very, very rarely) and I feel like most other guys don't have them either. I think typically, guys are a bit more self-reflective (maybe also just simpler) when it comes to emotions. Something happens to me, I'm annoyed about it, I know why. Since I know what I'm annoyed about, I can make a conscious effort to not let out my frustration on other people. Of course I don't always succeed but at least I would say something like "I'm sorry I'm being like this... I'm just so angry about XYZ" Usually (in my personal experience), women on their periods don't really do this. I would already feel much better if a woman said: "I'm sorry I'm being so bitchy, it's just that I'm on my period and I feel really awful, it has nothing to do with you."

  • Can't comprehend how it would feel. Well, I'll probably stay at home.

  • I'm no guy, but I will say that when people assume a woman is on her period just because she isn't in a good mood, that gets on my nerves. I mean you have a 50/50 chance of right. Either she isn't or she is, but you shouldn't always assume a woman is on her period just because she isn't a good mood. For all you know she's just had a really bad day. (Fun fact I learned recently: When a woman is on her period its when Estrogen levels are low and Testeron levels are high. Basically, it means when you're on your period you act closest guys act like ALL the time) (I may be wrong though)

    • I am wondering where you got the 5050 chance of being right about her being on her period. What you are saying is that 50 percent of the time she is on her period, can that be possible?

    • @jimmijo1954 Yes, you're right. I should have said that more clearly. When I say 50/50 chance, I mean that it's like flipping a coin. If you don't already know if a woman is on her period then you can only assume. It's like when you flip a coin you have a 50% chance of being right of which side is face up. Meaning you have a 50% chance of being right or wrong when you assume someone is on their period. (And no it not possible for a woman to be on her period 50% of the time. Pretty sure it isn't.)

    • And I am sure you are right thank God

  • I think it's a sad stereotype. 95% of the time, I don't feel any different, emotionally, when I'm on mine. But the other 5%, when I feel like someone is twisting and pulling at my insides... I don't even get mad, I'm just sad and want to lay down the whole day. I think people just want something else to blame someone's mood on. I don't know. It could also be a way to excuse bad behavior.

  • It's just another way people like to invalidate a woman's concerns.
It's kind of like a copout in a sense, where making claims that she's incapable of thinking reasonably because she's bleeding. Therefore making it much easier to feel justified in ignoring her and continuing to do as one pleases.

  • Yup. I remember I was in a club once, and I was standing on the side because I was texting something to my friend, and this guy came to me and said: Why aren't you dancing, are you on your period?

  • Because maybe she but nobody is willing to check 😂😂. Sorry, I just had to say something tasteless. Stereotypes!!!

  • I don’t know. But there’s a girl I work with who sometimes is in a bad mood and I always wish I could cheer her up. Any tips?

    • Sorry to hijack your question >.<

  • Would you rather him NOT give you the benefit of the doubt and just assume that your poor behavior is because you actually are a bitch? Seriously, why are you complaining about a free pass?

    • Its not a free pass because it is offensive and personal, and men wouldn't understand because it is a women thing

    • @Scarlet-Williams Being pissy because you're in pain is not a woman thing...

    • It is when the woman is on her period

  • NO... its by sterotypes assholes that Woman became bitchy/moody... Men's can't understand of periods and its pain... trust me

  • I don't really assume that ever, but when women are bitchy to me, I do LOVE to say "your menses must be making you hysterical". That always gets an entertaining reaction.

  • If it weren't then it would be a very very sad world.

All the women constantly having mood changes and irritating.

Men don't have monthly periods. We are stuck in this perpetual state that we can't help but stare at women whether we want to or not.

  • Guys do get moody once a month to, we just don't bleed out of our dicks and get cramps unless it's a really bad shit

    • what if you do bleed out of your dicks?

    • @asker D: D:

    • @Toad-1 that's why the update. lol. coz people assume oh she's on her period. So what if you guys do have a period for a day? What will you do?

  • Some girls are always friendly and there's that odd occation when she's moody. Its just become the masculine "go-to" of men.

If i was a girl on my period id go have lots of pregnancy risk free sex with my man

    • Can still get pregnant on periods

    • Not from my experience. Thats western media for you. Making us all too delicate with their safety fearmongerig.

    • No you literally can, if her cycle is out of balance. She might literally ovulate after period and sperm can live up to 5-7* days maximum so she'll get pregnant. Only a woman who ovulates on day 14 and has period on day 28 will be safe.

  • They’re being generous.

Because the alternative is that she’s just a bitch, 365 days a year.

  • I think women should take it as a compliment when men ask them if they're on their period.

It means that we're giving you the benefit of the doubt!

"Surely you can't ALWAYS be this fucking angry and hostile for no reason, there must be something CAUSING you to act this way, surely this isn't how you just normally act. . . Are you on your period or something?"

I just don't think girls realize how much they STAND OUT when they are fucking raging inside. Girls aren't supposed to be mean and nasty, they're supposed to be NICE, so when a girl is being nasty, guess what? You stand out like a SORE THUMB! Everybody fucking notices, even if you don't say anything and you keep it to yourself, everybody can just tell. And the ones who can't find out quick.

So just keep that in mind, ladies: by the time somebody works up the courage to ASK you if you're on your period, everybody you've run into has probably been wondering all day.

    • Ugh... :/ supposed to be this and that and fit the perfect box like a little trophy... then build it all up for years then become a old lady that lashes out... Everyone gets angry even women.

    • @Warmapplecrumble Boo-hoo, get a job. Everybody's life sucks.

    • So it makes you happy that women suffer.. because you are going through a bad day?

    • Show All
  • Men just need to stop rationalizing women’s behavior. “If women can’t communicate their issues, it’s the man’s job to read her mind and understand.” If men were to bleed, they would suck it up.

  • i hate it when they use it as an excuse. "no I am not being bitchy, you are just being an ass"

  • Cause they have no idea what it’s like they be bitching.

  • Because sometimes that is why we're being bitchy.

  • I always wanted to find out how it feels and giving birth as well.

  • We don't assume it, saying "it's her time of the month" is just a way of saying "whatever."

  • well you can't assume it form men cause they don't have those mood swings that come with periods. if we had them we'd be moody too in those days xD nothing more to it.

  • A guy that used to work for me as a dispatcher used to get really cranky about 3pm. One day I brought him a bottle of Midol. Some guys apparently can be on their period too, lol

  • Only stupid guys do that...

    • The only way I know or can guess a girl is on her period is in the way carries herself and the way she dresses. Girls are too weird to be judged on their actions.

  • I think girls mostly use being on their period as an excuse to act like a cunt

    • No we dont and we can't help it when we are
