Mate go and get a 25-Hydroxy blood test!. I am proper fit and I was getting them a couple of times a week. My doc told me to get one of those.. it's a fasting test so only fluids the night before, but mine showed up as a Vit-D deficiency.
I take Vit-D3 supplements now a few times a week and I don't get cramp any more EVER!

Take it for 2 weeks every day to start with following a bout of cramp,(it will take 2 weeks before you notice any difference) then 2 or 3 times a week so that you don't take too much. Oh and be sure it is the cholecalciferol (vit D3) you take as regular D won't help. You're welcome I'm glad I could help.
I almost forgot. Stay away from caffeine and bananas if you can. If I have either of those two, I wake up with a bout of cramp between three days and a week later. almost every time.
Not really I got tone thighs and cramps are due to over constant or under constraint on the muscle. If the muscle is too weak it has a higher chance of tearing if sudden strain of momentum is place.
