How do you tell your mom that porn isn't “that bad”?

My mom is by no means “a religious nutcase” but she and her parents always saw porn, masturbation, and oral as bad. In HS, she always told me “dont do anything you have no business doing.” OR “We dont go down there *points* on anyone. Mouths dont belong there.” But yea aside from that, i pretty much never got the sex talk. She still thinks I’m a virgin and i used to blamed her boyfriend for the porn I accidentally bought on tv. So i had to hide my sexcapades and past porn addiction from her. Anyways, she read my sisters journal today and saw it said “You will not watch porn again.” I laughed on the inside. My mom freaked out and was like “She cannot be watching porn! I will go to jail if the police monitor what she's watching.” Lmao. I didn't know what to say. I just laughed. But my mom is legit clearing all the history rn and thinking of taking my sisters devices away. 🤣

She be lettin my sis watch HBO, Starz, FX, TNT and Showtime shows with us like The Chi, Power, Lovecraft Country, Snowfall, Animal Kingdom, Watchmen, etc... like wtf she expect 😂 Dick, Tits and ass everywhere on those channels.   • Honestly, my sex life (and yes, that includes watching porn) is none of my mothers business! Not everyone who watches porn will become an addict, just like not everyone who drinks alcohol will become an alcoholic. Some people just have addictive personalities. Although I really do feel bad for those who become addicted, I don’t see what that has to do with me. I don’t watch it that much, and I never have. I don’t feel “driven” or “compelled” to watch porn, basically I could take or leave it. I do enjoy it but, it is most definitely none of my mothers business either way!

  • I don't think that is a battle you can win. My roommate right next to me has that view along with my whole church and there is nothing you can do to tell them otherwise. My advice is to avoid the topic and if at all possible agree to disagree but keep in mind her pastor has probably instilled that porn is sinning and as much as you can get them away from that sin and tell them to repent. So no matter how much you avoid her or try to change the topic she might continue to come back and get you to stop sinning. I have this issue with my mom sometimes too 😅 I think what does seem to work is walking out of the house and or going home if things get to be too much

  • I am against porn for different reasons. Nothing wrong with masturbation thou. The main reason I am against it is there is a lot of violence against women depicted in a lot of porn out there and rape porn which I find severally disturbing and it has definitely helped influence men to be interested in anal with women. I have had the unfortunate experience of being with someone who was violent during sex even when I kept telling him to back off and someone suggested he was “fullfilling his porn fantasy” there was probably a lot more to it then that but it definitely made me think.

    Also there is a lot of research that shows how people get addicted to it and it rewires men’s. I also think it has dehumanizing affects.

    I think your poor sister thou is going to end of traumatized she needs someone to talk to her about sex in a real way not just shaming her but the fact that you got addicted paints a cautionary tale.

  • I think you will find, that generation and the ones preceding that had very different sexual behaviours than the modern generation. Yes porn has existed for a very long time but it wasn't easily available as it is today. And also porn in the past wasn't as explicit as the modern ones.

    Certain sexual behaviour Like blowjobs and pussy eating is also a modern thing that was advertised by porn. Of course it is not a new thing because century old books like the Kamasutra already had all those aspects of sex in them but these were not a common thing as it is in modern times.

    Without porn, things like blowjobs and pussy eating, 69 and all that would be a rare thing that only people who truly explored sex and erotica would endulge in.

    And without the internet, porn would not be as common as it is today. And without it's demand through the net, porn would not be as explicit and hardcore as it is today.

    So I am not surprised at your mum's reaction not even for one second.

    I can truly say that generation is somewhat innocent in a few ways.
